We waited a total of 3 hours to see this movie, and it was totaly worth it! The acting by Heath was indescribable and enough to make a grown adult have nightmares. The action scenes were amazing and to know that they really flipped the semi-truck makes it that much better. You will not be disappointed...in fact, you'll want to see it again and again!

My 17 year old saw The Dark Knight at Midnight, opening night and gave me the review that "it is the best movie he has ever seen." Since I have seen the entire Batman series, and had read so much about Ledger's performance, I saw it.
Let me start by saying, it was a well done movie. The acting, special effects, production were all impressive. My problem was with the jerky camera work and what sounded like high pitched screaching in the background.
About an hour or so into the movie, the head ache started. Thus, you can imagine that another hour and a half of the same was a little hard to bear. It is one of the few movies I can remember seeing that I thought "why isn't this over yet?"
As we left the theater, however, I overheard another teenager declaring "that was the best movie [he] had ever seen."
As a result, maybe I'm just too old for The Dark Knight.
BTW: I saw several people with their children, ranging from 2 to 10, going to this movie. Word to the wise from a parent: Don't.

a rare day off. See it on video. Maggie Gyllenhall ruined this for me as I could not look at her on the screen. 1 star to balance all the garbage and the hype.

I will not post a long review because this movie doesn't require one.
Simply put this is one of the best movies I have ever seen and Heath Ledger is the Joker. After his performance, no one should be able to play that role ever again in any Batman movie, television show, etc.
I can't say enough about this movie. Just buy a ticket and go see it.

You have to see this movie...the filming, the acting, the dialogue/story, and the cast are just outstanding. I have seen a number of these actors in other films, but I think this collaboration was worth the wait. I can't stress enough how crazy & creepy Heath Ledger portrayed his version of the Joker - it was his best performance to date. I only wish he was here for the release so we could see more work from him. Christian Bale was my favorite Batman, and Michael Caine was wonderful as his butler. Just GO SEE IT!!! You'll be missing out!!

This movie was awesome - completely actioned packed and Heath Ledger truly did a phenomenal job. If I hadn't known it was him, I would never have been able to guess and not just because of his make up. It's definitely not a movie for kids, though! Two-Face was completely gruesome.

This movie was nothing short of breathtaking. So much so that it will make the continuation of this series very difficult, especially with the loss of Heath Ledger. His rendition of the joker was captivating. If the joker can't exist without the batman, and the batman can't exist without the joker as the movie contends, then the series is over.

Heath Ledger steals this movie hands down...most impressive performance of "The Joker" I have ever witnessed on the big screen. ...including Jack Nicholson's work from the 1989 Batman (although this is a little unkind because the two movies are really quite different.) Bale, Oldman and Eckhert deliver worthy performances...Michael Caine is understated and classy....but make no mistake...in this movie Ledger rules the day....or "the Knight" ...(bad pun intended.) It is amusing (and sad) to think of Nicholson "fuming" over the fact that he wasn't offered the role. I love Nicholson, but Ledger is incredible ..and I am not simply memorialzing him here due to his tragic death...see his work to believe it. He absolutely deserves a nomination from the academy posthumously for this remarkable work. Terrific special effects, costumes, set designs, cinematography....tempo slows a tad toward the end...still a 9 on a 10 scale....Kudos to Director Chris Nolan and Warner Studios!

I enjoyed the movie. A bit slow in the beginning, but then it picked up and kept me and the people I was with entertained and engaged throughout the remainder of the movie.

What a ride The Dark Knight delivers on all levels, mainly a fantastic script, superb acting from all, very believable effects a spot on eerie soundtrack and sound effects to set the mood.Two thumbs way up! Christopher Nolan's vision succeeds once again with this installment of the Batman series, The Dark Knight.
This movie does a great job of keeping the same tone and feel as Batman Begins, but re-engineering it just enough with new wonderful toys and locations.
Heath Ledger's show-stealing performance as the Joker is something worth watching many times. His multi-dimensional portrayal of the psychopath gets you laughing one minute, and gives you chills the next.
Nolan's direction is superb, and his action sequences are beautifully shot. I think keeping the Dark Knight in PG-13 territory helped the film tremendously. Not only at the box office, but in tone. Some of the most gruesome and chilling moments have value added by leaving the actual act of violence off screen and leaving it up to your imagination. It intensifies the scenes and makes the Joker that much scarier. No makeup or visual effect can take the place of the imagination. Kudos to Nolan for the technique in a film era known for more shock value, regardless of if it helps progress a film's story or not.
There are only two places this movie fell short. The ending, and the balance between two antagonists. The ending isn't epic or extremely climactic, and when the credits begin to roll, you are left a little disenchanted. Disenchanted, but not disappointed with the film as a whole. One reason the ending seems flat is that Batman has a nice emotional arc through the movie, but physically never finds himself in any grave danger by the hand of his adversaries. They are completely out matched through out the entire film, including the ending, which left it a bit anti-climactic. Nolan does such a great job of getting the audience invested in Batman's character that some real peril for our hero would have been a one two punch.
Another factor is the balance between Joker's character and Two Face. Too much time is spent trying to get the audience to invest in the Harvey Dent character setting up the Two Face storyline and not enough time is spent with the Joker. When Ledger and his antics is on screen, it is pure fueled entertainment. The Joker as a character is much more dynamic and should have been explored just a bit more.
All and all, this is definitely one of the best movies of the year and deserves Oscar buzz for multiple categories this year. If there is one movie to see this summer, thus far, it is The Dark Knight.

i don't usually write about movies, but i have to mention this...the best super hero movie by far i've ever seen has to be The Dark Knight. it keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time with twists, turns, deep-seeded characters, and ridiculous acting by every character...topped with a memorable and ridiculous performance by heath ledger as the joker. he has to be by far the best villain ever played in a super hero movie. even though batman is not my favorite super hero, this movie has to be one of the best as it has you twisted at the end, wondering what had just happened.
yes, the movie does not have any sexy ladies, obvious glorified heroes, or bland good-guy-winning predicability at the end, but a twisted, nuanced plot that truly epitomizes the title Dark Knight. it is different than all the rest-with no dead spots, all action and craziness. revelations upon revelations of human truth and twisted logic are seeded in with great cinematography. even in such a twisted movie, movie director christopher nolan is able to construe a message of goodness in a time of fear, and the strength of goodness as part of the human condition that counters all that is assumed as animal instinct. it also illustrates the irony of truth and how sometimes in darkness, the truth must wait until dawn. and in a very deeper tone, it questions what a super hero is, who the real heroes are, what it takes to be a super hero, and why sometimes a hero can be an ideal rather than the hero him/herself. the story is far from simple-mindedness...it is darkly complex and very impressionistic. although there is noted ambiguity, the ambiguity is masterfully placed to jog the mind into thought. everything is twisted, turned and wacked out. The Dark Knight is not just another super hero movie where the hero saves the world, gets the girl although some tragedy occurs-rather, it enhances the humanity of the villains, the side characters, and batman-it moves away from repetitive cliche super hero plots to something much more psychologically, philosophically and emotionally dynamic and thrilling than any super hero movie made. by far, the best i've seen in terms of recently released super hero movies, and maybe (not maybe, but for sure) the best super hero movie of all time. it definitely merits several academy awards (best picture, best supporting actor (definitely for Heath and not even close to being out of pity-truly a masterful performance for the ages), best musical score). enough of the superlatives...just see it for yourself and you be the judge (a must see in IMAX).
