This is NOT a comic book movie. It's TOO serious. They don't actually show all the violence, but let you know so graphically what is about to happen that it's quite disturbing. It's frankly ridiculous. If this was 1989 (The year the original Batman came out), and you went to see this movie, 'shock', 'horror', 'depressing' might be your word choices. Frankly, it's too much. To make it worse, the ending is not uplifting, but a downer. I never got bored. I just didn't enjoy the ride.
Why did I dish out $20 to see this with my wife????

yeah, so i'm like is it over. it went on. i think it would have been even better at two hours tops. whatever happened to the days when alfred hitchcock clocked in at around ninety minutes. road warrior, i believe, is something like 89 minutes. correct me if i'm wrong... p.s. i missed katy holmes, not her acting by the way. she looks better in person.

This is the greatest Batman Movie that I've seen in over a decade. I went to see this first with my girlfriend & she liked. One week later, I went to see it again with my little brother for his first time seeing, "The Dark Knight," & he likes it very much too. It's a Great Movie, but we won't see another one coming out for a long long time.

I rarely go to movies, but I actually think I may go see this one a second time. I loved this movie. At first did not want to go because I am more of the Mama Mia or Hairspray crowd, but I am so glad I did. I went kicking and screaming because the movie was 2 hrs. and 30 min. and I just knew that I was going to be bored out of my mind. Was I suprised! I sat on the edge of my seat the entire time and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I did flinch a few times when something bad would happen to someone, but it wasn't explicit and gross like some other movies. Of course the acting was phenomenal and I'm so in love with Christian Bale now. He made Bruce Wayne the rich, arrogant playboy that every woman wants and a Batman that everyone would love to have defending their city. And the Joker! I was so captivated by the character that I never once thought about who the actor was...........isn't that how it is suppose to be? Can't wait to see it again!!!!

This movie is incomparable to the earlier Keaton films... incomparable! The colorful wacky villains of batman days of yorn are extinct! This is Batman all grown up with actual sinister villains and intensly virtuous heroes. This aint your daddy's Batman for sure! The performances by the all star cast (excluding Katie Holmes... or was that Maggie Gyllenhall? Can't really tell the difference so does it even matter...) are un-be-lievably believeable! A grown man dressed up in a batsuit has never been more serious! Heath Ledger- AWESOME, Crazy Awesome!!! See the movie. Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart- all phenomenal performances! The cinematography was excellent, the sound was amazing- the action - fantastic- all together to submerse you into this amazing film! SEE IT! Seriously See it now!

I loved every minute of this movie. Too bad Ledger is gone and cannot do another movie as Joker....
Everything all the reviews are saying is true, just go see it for yourself.
The PG-13 rating is what bothers me most about this movie. The themes presented were of an adult nature and there were many disturbing parts that had ME (a 28 year old) a little upset. I cannot see how this would be fit for any kid under 15 or 16. It just makes me mad because bone-head parents will let their younger kids see it because it does not have the "R" rating- so it must be okay.... Should have been an R movie. IF you are considering taking a preteen or teenager, please see it yourself first and judge whether or not your kid could handle it.

I believe it will Gross in excess of $500 Million in first 30 days! This Movie is a masterful fusion of Realism and Special effects. The Movie was tied in well to Bateman Begins theme-ending. This should be nominated in many categories with Heath Ledger and Christian Bale securing many Awards! Great Movie themes never die. Go see it now, again!

I've spent the better part of my career making TV commercials to convince people to buy products, so it's safe to say that I understand the power of the media.
When a movie like "Batman" and "Wanted" hit the mainstream, it's bad for our culture. Both movies feature over-the-top violence, descriptions of child abuse, torture and other abnormal behavior -- all to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
If we keep pumping these images into our children's brains, we'll have more and more Columbine-like violence wreaked on our society.
And that, my friends, will be the greatest tragedy of all.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I arrived to the movie theatre under the impression that The Dark Knight would be must as bland as the last Batman movies, but was blown away! The effects were on the nose and the places where your supposed to react were cued on time! The characters fit the actors, Bale was still mysterious, Ledger was perfect, and Eckhart was the entrance to the next one! I highly recommend this movie to movie goers that are into effects and action. I enjoyed the movie immensely, except for Bales' annoying voice when he was in Batman costume. Other than that, it was a great start in comparison to all the other false starts in the Batman sequels.

Pros:
The special effects and action scenes were outstanding!
As a Chicago native it was great to see so many familiar landmarks incorporated into the movie and portrayed as Gotham.
Heath Ledger did a great job as the joker, but I'm not certain that his performance would be as "talked about" as it is, if it weren't for his untimely and unfortunate death.
Cons:
The plot/story line was extremely weak and rather slow at times.
Christian Bale's voice and manner of speech as Batman changed way too much throughout the movie and at times sounded ridiculous. Heath's Joker changed as well, but got better as the movie went on.
For as weak as Katie Homes' performance was as the Rachel character in the last movie Batman Begins, Maggie Gyllenhaal was even worse and even less believable in Dark Knight.
The movie tried to do too much... the Harvey Dent / Two Face story development was neat, but there was way too much going on.
Overall, for all the hype and all of the 5-star newspaper and critic reviews, this was only an average movie at best... That said, it's worth seeing on the big screen because of the action scenes and the special effects, but don't go in with your hopes up for seeing a fantastic movie all around because it only shines in spots.

Other than Batmans annoying low toned voice, I have to say that this movie was very well written. It is rare for me to sit through a 2 1/2 hour movie and see other viewers cheer and clap at the end of the movie! A must see!

This dark knight is by far the most dramatic and real. Bale is by far the best Batman. Alfred is truly more than just a butler as he should have been from the beginning. Legder as the Joker can make anyone a follower. The performances of these three actors is worth the three hours. The story is usual Batman, but more true to what we love about the comic series. I loved Harvey's image in the end as Two Face. Eckhart is good, but doesn't stand out. Oldman is as usual exceptional. He becomes Gordon, that you forget who he is.

Overall...on scale of 1 to 10...it was an "8". Good story line, action and twists. The Joker was excellent...should get Academy Award for performance (although he is dead). Movie was very long, maybe too long. Ended with a typical feeling of what could be coming for the next movie.

The Dark Knight definitely lived up to all the hype and broken records. Heath Ledger's Oscar-worthy performance does not only earn him the title as "Best Joker" but probably best villain of all time. Every scene in which he appeared brought a smile to your face, no matter how disgustingly horrible his character was. I was, however, disappointed in Batman. The movie made me lose interest in his charater because he really did nothing out of the ordinary.

There have been a lot of great movies that have come out or are coming out, but Dark Knight is in a class all its own. With the exception of Heath's tragic loss, Chris Nolan has created a masterpiece.
The story is extremely strong, the special effects left me completely breathless and seriously wanting to know how they pulled them off. The dialogue was extremely tight and well written. No offense, but I think it was even better than in Batman Begins and I loved that movie, too.
I have to give a huge applaud to the crew and stunt men behind the scenes. When you can't see the work being done, you know they're 100% on their game.
And last but certainly not least is the cast.
All the actors were very well chosen for this movie and there wasn't a solitary bad performance among any of them.
But this was by far, Heath Ledger's shining moment. He himself may not have thought so, but his interpretation of the Joker has lifted the character up and put him in a place that will probably never be duplicated.
Sure, at the end of it we could say "Wow! What a movie!" Yet Dark Knight was more than just a tidy roll of 35mm and/or 65mm IMAX film.
It was a journey.

Everything people are saying about this movie is true - Heath Ledger's performance is incredible; Christian Bale's Batman is dark, conflicted, more real than past takes on the character; the special effects are amazing, many of them pulled off with no CGI. One thing I was not expecting was for Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent performance to be so pivotal to the plot. His performance was also great.
This is a film to remember!

Excellent movie. Maybe a hair too long but probably necessary to tell the whole story. Christian Bale seemed a little thin from last movie but still best Batman. If I was not such a comic book fanatic would have rated Heath Ledger's performance an Accadamey Award nomination. He was still fabulous. Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart were great. Despite my seeming negative comments best movie I have seen this year.

Phenomenal movie, great pace, tormented dark characters. I loved it but caution that it has some shocking violence. NOT CHILD APPROPRIATE. There were several scenes that had most the audience covering there eyes. It is a true look into just how deranged people can be when they believe in a cause. Only thing I didn't like in the whole movie was the motorcycle. It looked good but where it came from was LAME!!

It was slow in the begining. It took a while to get started. When it got moving it was very good. It still leaves open the possibility for more Batman movies or not. The Joker is still alive and Batman is on the run. I guess we shall see. Batman is just cool what can I say?
