I love that the A+ list of actors in this film interact with each other so well. There's no show-stealing despite several magnificent performances.
That said -- I was blown away by Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. Amazing.
I think that for several years to come, folks will see movies and say things like, "Well, it's no Dark Knight, but it's pretty good anyway."
I left the theatre knowing I had just seen a well crafted masterpiece - and I still want more.
Delicious, creepy, enjoyable and haunting -- I highly recommend The Dark Knight.

If you are in for dark, intense film making and pitch-perfect performances all-around, then this is the film for you. If you want your movies to be all bright pastel colors, uplifting musical numbers, and ending with rainbows and hand holding, you may want to pause, realize you have really poor taste in films, and go see this any way. Based loosely on the Batman comic series 'The Long Halloween' and 'The Killing Joke', this admirable sequel takes comic book movies some place they have never gone before... into the dark. This film features all the gritty realism you would want from a hard-hitting action-drama like 'Heat' or 'Traffic', but with an over-the-top flare that never stoops to insulting the audience with a lack of probability. That's what makes this film truly amazing, the fact that every aspect was approached from a 'how would this work if it were to really happen' perspective. That shows respect and trust for, not only the audience, but the source material as well. 'The Dark Knight' hypnotizes the audience into forgetting that this is a film with mesmerizing characters and performances and then socks you right in the gut with true emotional intensity and no-holds-bared action.

I would give this movie a grade of B, and recommend it with reservations. It was a disappointment after all the prerelease hype and buildup.
Other than very outstanding acting talent in the major roles, it didn't really have much to set it apart from other ultra-big-budget, high tech action movies.
There were plenty of explosions and fights, but...big deal. Rambo has these too. The story was hard to follow and I found myself close to boredom a couple of times.
Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker was excellent, over-the-top, and creepily believable...overall, it carried the movie.
Christian Bale is the best actor yet for the lead role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Micheal Caine was great as Alfred, as was Morgan Freeman in his part...these two actors are among the best of the older generation.
The other leading and support roles were excellently-played also.
IMO, Batman Begins was an A+ movie, with a much better story and more overall depth and character than The Dark Knight.
Batman was my favorite childhood comic-book hero ...I hope there are more movies and the next one is better.

Intense movie through to the end...a couple surpises in character development that you didn't expect. This Batman adaptation truly captured the essence of the "Dark Knight". The Joker was played brilliantly by Heath Ledger and on par with Jack Nicholson's version of the demented fiend with a smile. Chrisitan Bale plays a brash Bruce Wayne and a cold and calculating Batman just as I remember from the comics of old. Great supporting cast too. If you love action this one has it, can't wait for the next installment.

No Batman movie ever disappoints, but each of the new movies gets more intense and dark. The writers and directors are in keeping with the times. As movie goers, we demand better writing, acting and effects. This movie aces all of those catagories. Christian Bale is a little better as Bruce Wayne, but still good in the roll as a whole. This movie is a rare mind blowing experience. I haven't seen a movie with characters this compelling since Star Wars. I will go as far as to say that The Dark Knight exceeded my expectations of a sequel masterpiece. This is the Empire Strikes back of the Batman movies ten fold. It surpasses the original Batman Begins without a shadow of a doubt. Ledgers performance will go down as one of the greatest in cinema history. The twists and turns of the story woven together by the authenticity of its characters and those that play them give this movie its undying quality to keep you rolling,gasping for air and applauding from start to finish. Way to go Chris Nolan and cast!!!

Lots of action, good dialog, the Joker (ledger) was way better than nicholson. Batman was a little too much like keaton by changing his voice, they should of used keaton! Awesoem soundtrack/score. Lots of action again, and awesome effects.

Thought the special effects were great. It's amazing what computers can do! Directing was surperb and so was Heaths acting. You knew what violent action was about to take place but no gore. Worth going to see, I think it's going to go down as the best action flick of all time.

I knew from the beginning this movie was gonna be good but I never expected it to be as good as it was. Heath Ledger did a beyond awesome job of playing the joker. I have never seen the joker as evil as this one in this movie. ledger makes you want to hate and fear him at every turn and you are terrified wondering what he would do next. Still not a fan of the way Batman speaks but I can overlook it for the great acting of Christian Bale.All actors and actress played their roles expertly and I was just excited and scared by the movie. Overall this has been one of the best movies this year

By far one of the best adaptations of a comic superhero. If only all movies were done in this fashion. Gone is the campy humor and winks to the audience that usually destroys a franchise. This is a dark, brooding, serious and emotional telling that shows the true strength of humanity when faced with true evil. I hope they keep it on the rails. After all, they are fighting crime. Nothing funny about that.
