When I left the theatre, I was speechless, because I was thinking long and hard, "Is this the best movie I've ever seen?" At the very least, this is an absolute must see. I was dismayed at first hearing it was 2.5 hours long, but I could not leave my seat or take my eyes off the screen the entire time.

As an avid Batman fan I had very high expectations for this new age Batman. Most times I see that when someone trys to create sequels or new versions of a classic, it tends to dissappoint the TRUE fans that have been around since the beginning. Gotham City has envolved into a more mature and and even somewhat realistic place. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger were ASTOUNDING Actors to say the least. I was totally into every scene of the entire movie and believe me it was LONG. But worth every 2 1/2 hours in the front row of the theatre holding my head back to watch. I must say the one thing I was leary about was someone besides Jack Nicholson playing Joker. Well, Heath played the Joker perfectly. He gave the Joker modern day personality with classic Joker antics... Loved the performance! Also the Batmobile .... is by far the tightest ride I've ever seen on the big screen. Every part of action Batman was in made me want to be his Batwoman! It was a thrilling experience with a sort of naughty edge! Its a must see and definately Oscar worthy!

Very good action, powerful villian character, love the filming in Chicago. Storyline is fast/confusing to some. Expect to get lost in the storyline if your not listening well. Amount of actions sequences are good but more may be requested for some. One of the best Batman films and possibly tops the comic strip movies.

When you look at many other comic book movies, you really don't see the quality that should be put in as in other movies. Comic book movies have gotten bad raps for being too simple and cartoon like that pretty much drive people to not bother watching them in the first place.
Rejoice fellows comic book fans and film fans alike. Finally, there is a film that not only satisfies the fan in me, but also the film geek that I am. The Dark Knight is a movie, which can be compared to the many great crime films of our time, that not only delves into a character who is widely known, but puts that character in an environment that exudes realism in every aspect of where you look. The Dark Knight is a film that examines the true meaning of a hero, and why heroes are needed in our society. It's a film that gives us a lesson about how we treat those who want to help, and the sacrifices that those who help endure on a daily basis.
The Dark Knight is a masterpiece in every respect of the word. It's dark, intense, and overflowing with energy that it exudes what a film should be. With great direction from Christopher Nolan, and an amazing cast to boot, The Dark Knight is a film that will be revered long after this generation has died out.

I must start by saying I am a fan of the Batman series. From the first and second movies with Michael Keaton, the forgettable third and forth, and the more recent Batman Begins. I am also a fan of comic books, and I enjoy their movie adaptations; even though some never should have left the colored pages.
Batman is a hero we all can relate to. He has no "super powers", but is often referred to as a "super hero". I find myself wondering that with enough martial arts training, a few high tech gadgets, and a Bruce Wayne bank account, even I could be Batman... My point is, he is one of the few super heroes we all can relate to.
Nolan's second Batman movie, The Dark Knight is in one word, Intense. It took quite a bit of skill and wisdom to make a 2 1/2 hour movie, and keep it gripping and intense every step of the way.
From the opening scene to the final fade-out, The Dark Knight is absolutely edge of the seat entertainment. One complaint I always had with the entire Batman lineup, is the movies were very dark. Not only in tone, but in lighting. It is always pitch black, hard to see, gritty, and shadowy. While I understand that is a central theme of Batman, it was refreshing to see The Dark Knight show the side of crime that takes place in broad daylight. It was nice to see a little more realism added to Gotham city.
I don't want to get into any scene specifics in case you haven't seen the movie, but the special effects are all very believable, well done, and never once over the top. This movie sucks you into the world that is Gotham City, and never once lets you forget it. I liked that even a license plate or two said Gotham, and not a state that removes your focus from the scene.
As for the acting, top notch all around. Obviously, the buzz surrounds Heath Ledger as the Joker. Yes, he did a great job. Absolutely a memorable performance. Christian Bale, also does a terrific Batman, and an even better Bruce Wayne. But I think the oscar should go to Aaron Eckhart. Aaron's performance of Harvey Dent is incredible. There is so much to comment on, I don't know where to start. To keep it short (too late), I will say he has more than one side to his character (some of you get that). You will like him, want to get to know him better, hate him at times, be scared of him at times, and feel sorry for him at times. Any actor that can evoke such emotions out of one character in one movie - that says something.
There is so much to say, but most of it has already been said. I think this movie has been underhyped, and I think that's a good thing. To many times the hype gets me too excited, and I find myself let down. Not the case here. I can't wait to see it again, and soon. Enjoy it for what it is, an intense thrill ride that keeps you on the edge and never lets go. Great acting, great writing, great directing, great movie!

Totally enjoyable from beginning and almost to the end. Some of the moral points the movie was making were well presented; however, towards the end, the movie got a little preachy. Still, this was a minor flaw in an otherwise action packed thriller. The duels between Batman and The Joker were gladiator spectacles with action and special effects that were totally original.
Seeing Heath Ledger in his role as The Joker was bittersweet. His talent was enormous and will be missed. I, for one, am already rooting for him to win an posthumous Academy Award for his portrayal. I was repelled by his evilness, and at the same time, couldn't wait for him to reappear on screen.
Christian Bale and all the supporting cast were great. This is the "must see" movie of the summer!

I loved The Dark Knight, but was disappointed with how unreal Two Face looked. The rest of the movie is very believable which is why I like it so much, but the computer graphics and extreme damage to his face was unreal and a little disappointing. Other than that... the movie was amazing!

This film stayed true to the Dark Knight comics. It had phenomenal performances by all of the actors. Heath Ledger's performance was amazing, he was meant for that role, and it is sad that he is no longer with us. Movie direction, sound, visual effects, and more were all tops.
I did hear one bad comment by someone coming out of the theater. He claimed that they could have done a better job, and that he thought it was too dark. I do have to say to that that this film was based on the Dark Knight comics. DC Comics has more control over movies being made of their comics. If you do not like these comics then how do you expect to like the movies based off them. I look at it this way; if Batman-the Dark Knight is not your cup of tea, then drink a different cup.

I saw the Dark Knight last night and it was almost perfect in every way. Bale once again nailed the dual role flawlessly, while Gary Oldman was given much heavier material as Gordon, and, in one key scene, gives the audience a reason to cheer. Oldman is Gordon. Caine took care of Alfred perfectly, even giving us layers of the character we were not familiar with and giving Bruce just the right degree of confidant.
Freeman again fills the shoes of Lucious Fox perfectly, and in a couple of scenes, gives Fox an added depth that only this film could warrant. Aaron Eckhart embraces the role of white knight Harvey Dent head on and never lets go. And comments and reviews about only seeing Two-Face for a couple of minutes are inaccurate. He's involved for the last 10-15 minutes on screen and Eckhart matches Bale in capturing the duality of the character and makes you truly feel sorry for a man who lost everything that mattered to him and went down the only path that seemed logical to him. Eckhart gives off the true idea of Two-Face, he's a victim, not a villian. And the makeup is awesome.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is much better than Katie Holmes in her interaction with Bruce and I am completely convinced of her as an ADA to Dent's DA. There's an interrogation scene that she handles with control that I just don't believe Holmes could've pulled off at all. It all made her exit that much more of a gut shot. Excellent.
And, finally, the Joker. Heath Ledger had me with his first scene and the already famous disappearing pencil scene is to be relished in its execution. Ledger, himself, is gone behind the makeup and all we see is the Joker and not a Joker that Nicholson could have pulled off. Ledger is the true Joker, definitive, sadistic, brutal and relentless. There's a scene between him and Dent that I will never forget and if you've seen the movie, you know what I mean. Priceless. Ledger did things Nicholson could only dream about, drove a major character over the edge of all possible reasoning and sanity, made Batman almost want to kill him and left two Gotham structures in ruins. And the Joker did it all while truly enjoying himself and cherishing what he was creating--Choas. Chris Nolan put the ingredients together for the perfect banquet and Ledger feasted on it like it was his own personal playground.
