I enjoyed this movie thoroughly! When a movie is intensely anticipated, usually it does not live up to my expectations and I am left feeling a little disappointed. Not only did the Dark knight live up to it's hype, but it was better than I had expected. Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker was creepier and much more affecting than I had imagined. Maybe not Oscar-worthy, but still incredible! Christian Bale is perfect, as usual; Maggie Gyllenhaal is great (though I wish Katie Holmes had been able to reprise her role); Gary Oldman is awesome; Morgan Freeman is the man and Michael Caine is always a pleasure to watch. However, I was not so fond of Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent and Two-Face. Don't get me wrong, he's a wonderful actor and plays the roles well, but his performance lacked something that I just can't put my finger on. I guess he's just not as believable as the other cast members and sometimes that would pull me out of the story a bit. Also, why was Cillian Murphy even in the movie? His one or two scenes are -- for lack of a better word -- cheesy. Also, this one runs a bit long. My advice is to grab good seats, go to the restroom, then ration your drink or else you'll miss some of the action! Lastly, I loved that Anthony Michael Hall makes a brief cameo! :)

I was blown away by all the performances, but especially Heath Ledger. I am pretty sure his Joker will give me nightmares for some time to come! This is a great film overall and surpasses all expectations. From the other posts, guess I'm not the only one who thinks so! BTW I am NOT a comic book fan but definitely enjoy the movies. I think Chris Nolan has risen to the top of this heap.

This was honestly the best movie I've seen this summer. It had me hooked from the opening scene. I went with my sister and we both absolutely loved it. The action scenes were skillfully shot and the plot was unpredictable and thrilling. The acting was superb. Even though the movie was two and a half hours I just wanted more!!

I am a huge fan of Chris Nolan's film version of Batman. This is exactly how Batman is supposed to be portrayed: dark, gritty, urban, and violent. Every actor in The Dark Night seemed to realize that they were working on a very special film; they all brought their A-Game. Even the minor characters, such as Detective Rodriguez, were stellar.
Of course, Heath Ledger as The Joker is unparalleled. He plays Joker as one of the scariest villains in American cinema history. Christian Bale as the Batman was equally great as was Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. I foresee this film winning scads of Oscars next year. Needless to say, I highly recommend this film to anyone interested in not only riviting acction but also a tightly-constructed and well-actd storyline.

I seen the first Batman and I liked it. But after spending almost 3 hours watching the Dark Knight, it was worth every minute and every peeny. Especially Heath Ledger outstanding role as the Joker.

First of all, this latest venture is NOt like the first one (in these latest entries). My guess is that the first one was based upon an actual Frank Miller comic. This one, while it has the Joker in it, is not and, more or less, a completely original story.
With that being said, I can say that this Batman movies really was not a comic book movie at all. You really have to get that out of your mindset even though when you hear the words "Batman" you might automatically think of the comic you see on TV, comic books, or earlier Batman movies.
What you have here is a complex and sometimes confusing crime detective storyline more akin to the film noir of the Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, LA Confidential, Chinatown, French Connection, Serpico, and In the Line of Fire type.
So in a sense, it is a throwback to crime detective movies of old mixed in together with a bit of Bourne Identity and the newer James Bond. Instead of a ski mask, the protagonist dons a mask looking like the Batman.
Heath Ledger's performance is one for the books but really, he was probably in about a third of the whole movie. A majority of his lines where unintelligible and his portrayal of the Joker was mostly based on a conglomerate of past characterizations (like the Nicholson's Joker, Sid Vicious, Jack Sparrow, NIcholson's character from The Shining, James Cagney in White Heat, etc.). Don't get me wrong, it's still good. But as for all the hype on whether it was Oscar worthy, I'm not sure about that. I just didn't think it was not enough screen time.
In my opinion, who really steals the show is Gary Oldman. He is so immersed in his role that you almost don't even recognize that he is there. He is so believable. For one scene, I thought that the Ledger's Joker had a bit of an homage to Oldman's Sid Vicious from Sid and Nancy. And now, Oldman's the calm person. Great irony there!
The one thing I felt was different about the movie for me was that it felt like the movie was rewritten probably in part to Ledger's death.
[SPOILER ALERT, if you don't wanna know then don't read it past here!!] I thought the whole setup of the movie was for the demise of the Joker in which case certain truths would come out. I thought that was the Joker's whole point. That to me explained why Nolan did not waste a lot of time with the origins of this Joker because Nolan was allowing this Joker to manufacture a "Dark Knight" to the Batman's White Knight persona of Gotham. In doing so, Nolan would take the Joker's life in addition to someone else dear to Batman and another. After which, the NEW villain would emerge even more nasty than the Joker. BUT, instead the the storyline seemed to be rewritten so that the Joker lives (in tribute to Ledger who died). And a whole story setup (or half the movie) to watch the creation of and introduction of this new villain was wasted when he was killed at the end of the movie. And YES folks, he is dead...........................................................[SPOILER OVER]
There might have been an open ended storyline in this movie but to me it felt like this was it. No more Batman movies until someone else resurrects the franchise some years down the road. Perhaps, Batman Beyond??
It's great acting. Definitely more action than the first. I like the look of this Gotham better than ALL the Batman movies (even though it looked too much like Chicago, where it was filmed.) No matter, the performances and action is what makes this movie. The storyline, meh, it's ok.

The second installment of the new Batman movies was really very good with great performances by everyone. Both Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledger were amazing, and Christian Bale was fantastic as Bruce Wayne, and a more than adequate Batman. I might see this in theaters again.

This film was a full-bodied, action packed thrill ride that maintained the integrity of the characters set forth under Marvel and the sound design was fantastic. Heath Ledger deserves an Oscar for his layered, manic brilliant character. Christian Bale could use a little less strain on his vocal chords to get the raspy dark voice we all expect from Bruce's alter ego. That became distracting and contrived at times. Great performance by Aaron Eckhart. Glad to see him gear away from the "Thank You for Smoking" character he is so talented at.

Perhaps it runs about 20 minutes too long, and those 20 mins are spent telling the story of the creation of Two Face in detail. But any moments featuring Heath Ledger on-screen were outstanding! He was, at turns, profoundly disturbing and outrageously funny as any movie villain should be. The chase & hospital scenes were over-the-moon (as much as I can say without giving away plot info). Christian Bale is good, but not as mythic in this story as he was in Batman Begins, though the film doesn't suffer for it. I also appreciate the fact that there were no inexplicable moments of cheesy romance, unlike the Superman franchise. SEE THIS ONE ASAP!

Compared to the last Batman from Bale and company this was an unexpected and extended pleasure. I really enjoyed the last Batman movie with the martial art background. The Joker, Ledger, was enjoyable dark experience. Jack Nicholson would have provided a memorial screen experience, but I think Ledger provided an additional physical content Nicholson may not have been able to provide. What is so good is that the Joker is still alive and able to frighten the city again.
So something to look forward from the The Dark Knight's crusade for Gotham comfort.

I was a little worried that all the reviews and hype on this movie would lead me to dissappointment when I actually saw The Dark Night. They were 100% right!! It was action packed and very dark. I wouldn't take young children to see it. Batman has come a long way from the old "cartoon-like" weekly shows with shark repellant and all those balloons saying "POW". I can't wait for the next one.

This was an excellent movie. It was 2 1/2 hrs long but my youngest who is 7 sat through it all very quietly. It held his attention very well. I would highly recommend this to everyone of all ages. Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Heath Ledger were awesome. The acting was great. We loved it & would see it again. I will buy it when it comes out on video also. This is a must have movie!!

The acting in this movie is maybe better than any batman movie ever. I loved it, for the most part. The only problem for me was there was so much action, the plot didn't develop quite as smoothly as it could have. (I understand to some people more action = better movie) I just didn't feel like we got to know some of the characters as well as I would have liked. But overall, it's an awesome movie, which I would totally recommend. Unless you are a parent bringing your child who is under the age of 10, then I would absolutely recommend that you not take your child, even if they love batman, because there are definitely parts that could leave them with nightmares.

This was an incredibly good movie, and most of the credit goes to Heath Ledger. His joker was phenomenal! Of course, the rest of the cast was also very good, but he stood out, and you couldn't take your eyes off the screen. What a terrible shame that he's gone. He deserves the Oscar.

I thought this movie was even better than the 1st Batman, and I rarely think that about sequels. Heath Ledger really got into his role as The Joker. In fact, I wouldn't have even known it was him had I not known about it ahead of time. The action is amazing, the story was great, and I was enthralled the entire time.
