Ok, yes I follow Star Trek, but I have to say this is totally different than what I had expected. Great Special Effects and Sound, OK Score, Good acting from mostly unknowns, but most of all fresh direction. Looking forward to the next one as long as JJ directs it too, and hey JJ less flashing lights and moving camera ok, BARF..GO SEE IT, A MUST!!!!!!!!!!

Saw this with several friends, two teens plus one friend not into Trek. We all thought it was great. Great story, splendid acting (especially the actor playing McCoy) & staggering effects. So much action we had plenty to talk about afterwards as well, other than just wow & yes they can make another one of those! Go see it!

Compelling characters but a convoluted plot, weak villain a not a few smashed icons. That, and one gets tired of Vulcans with more emotions than a cackling hysteric. (Remember when Vulcans never showed their emotion - not this touchy-feely crowd.) This movie will give the franchise a new lease on life - but at the price of some of the old magic that made the original series so compelling. Still, the story is exciting and well acted. For those who have never seen Star Trek - this will be a superb introduction. For those who remember the old series, there is much here to enjoy, but you'll find yourself missing the good old days.

This movie was...well a complete shock. I didn't expect to go down the path that this film took, but I enjoyed the ride. I'm wondering if anyone will see it the way I did but we just saw the making of a whole new Star Trek. They have created an alternate reality for us to follow and I can't wait to see where they take us. I believe we will see more grit and reality in the ST world instead of the sterility of the previous versions. I love the way they have totally created something new, without contaminating the old and at the same time keeping the characters intact. Great!

JJ Abrams is a great director but the plot is complicated and hard to follow. Normally I say just enjoy the ride but the plot is so off-the-wall that anything goes -- think when Patrick Duffy returned after the a year on Dallas and the entire previous year was just a dream. Way too off the wall! Now I understand what was meant by "forget everything."
Plus the dialogue and techno-babble was too fast and hard to comprehend.

I loved the movie. I'm a die hard trekie and loved it. It kept me on the edge of my seat and the two hours went by to fast, was wanting to watch more. Will for sure see it again.

I absolutely liked the concept of Spock Prime and Nero going into the past and changing the world of Star Trek as we know it. The acting was believable and I did not keep track of timing at all. I enjoyed this film immensely!

just amazing for all trekking fans and totally new to the experience for example our 12 yr old daughter who was so pumped she came home and watched all the oldest episodes she could find on the internet. She says there are 72; she's seen 3 so far!

This is the Star Trek that we have all been waiting for.
The cast is absolutely fantastic and they bring to life the characters that we have known and loved from the original show to life in a way that almost makes us forget about the iconic originals. To explain more, would be spoiling so I will not say anything more about that.
Michael Giacchino's music score is something that is iconic in the sense that it used some of Alexander Courage's old music from the classic series, yet injects the movie with his own original, incredibly stirring score. Star Trek is the real deal. This is the best movie of the summer so far.In short, go see Star Trek. You will be glad you did.

While I do not have any "trekie" outfits in my closet I am a life-time fan of the original series. I thought there could only ever be one crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise...but I'm happy to say this movie proved you can go home again! Bravo to this set of young actors who skillfully captured the essence of their characters without becoming mere caricatures of the originals. The story line was good and the action non-stop. The humor was spot on...I'm convinced we will see this crew for many years to come! I know I'll check it out at least one more time on the big screen.

The new actors captured the personalities of the original actors. There was a wonderful mix of humor and drama - just like the original TV series. Animation scenes were spectacular. This is my favorite Star Trek movie.

This is a new Star Trek....smarter, fresher, more action packed. No matter what you think of the older versions...this is not that. The old girl has gone to the gym and worked out, muscled up, got a nice tan, and a bikini wax.
You don't have to be an old Star Trek fan to get in on the ground floor of this one. It works as a movie....not just as a Star Trek movie.
The fastest paced 2.06 you will experience. Lots of movie there and not a wasted moment. Nothing drags. It flows very well.
