I'm an original hardcore Trekkie, and I'll admit that the thought of seeing new actors -- and "kids", from my perspective -- in what amounted to iconic roles had my hackles up. But the casting -- not to mention just about everything else about this movie -- was perfect. I took my 12-year-old son with me (well, technically, he took me, for Morther's Day), and he's gone from living and breathing Star Wars to "Take us out, Mr. Sulu, warp factor five!"

Extremely well cast. Superb acting by all starring cast members, particularly heroes star Zachery Quinto as Spock. Can't imagine anyone else having played that role better. Hauntingly beautiful music score. Special effects and combat scenes a must see! See this movie again and again.

I was a Star Trek fan but you did not have to be. There is much appreciated humor, the casting is fantastic and the performances even better. The sets and the special effects are flawless. This was a very enjoyable film. I will be seeing it again and taking my son who has never seen the original TV show or movies.

My wife and I very much enjoyed Star Trek, we thought it was extremely well cast. The characters of younger Spock and Bones were right on. Great acting, good effects. We only wish we had seen it in IMAX.

We are friends with the cast of the orignal Star Trek and this movie hurls us into their formative years, which don't dissapoint. We know them better after this movie, and if anything, love them all the more: for their humanity or vulcanity.
The budget showed up on the screen and we are transported to these worlds on ships that are believable and sometimes even gritty.
Our only quibble is that much of the final action sequence feels like it suffers from the lack of scope, i.e., extras, to expand the action beyond a gunfight in the street in an old western.
It takes a lot to drag us out to the movie theater. We'd go again!

Excellent story, it was like being back in the first Startrek episode but than with 2009 graphics and effects. I liked every minute of it, will probably go back to see it a second time

Terrific take on a cultural institution. Enough 'tags' from the original series to make it good for fans; enough new stuff to make it accessible for 'new to Starfleet' folks.
Belief had to be suspended in a couple areas (without giving away plot points), but it was minor. And they changed the entire time continuum, so a sequel is definitely necessary, but on the whole, I loved it!
The actors pegged for the major roles of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, and Chekov did a fantastic job (especially Spock and Kirk).
All in all, a great movie.

You don't need to be a Star Trek fan (and I am not one myself) to enjoy this movie. The story is unique but not overly complicated, the writing is solid, there is a nice balance between characters and action sequences, and it comes together well. Worth the money and I will see it in theaters again.

The cast was excellent and the movie contains a ton of references and catch-phrases used by the "original" cast. Even the central plot (time travel) was used frequently by the earlier Star Trek episodes and movies; so many of the "old school" fans complaining about this one is baffling. Any particle physics loving Trekkie knows they're gonna have to go change the Nero/Kelvin incident in the next movie. Duh.

With out going into too much detail, I can safely say this was a complete and utter waste of my time. I am a huge Star Trek fan and went into this with a very open mind. I nearly cried at the end, not because it was good but I had realized to what extent J.J. and his crew had gone wrong. And to that I have one final comment: J.J. I want a refund.

I've been a Trek fan for most of my adult life and have a deep affection for the original series' and movies. That said, Star Trek is in desperate need of new blood, both in writing, directing style and acting.
I left the theater for the midnight showing of Star Trek knowing as much about this universe of stories as the noob next to me who had never seen any Star Trek, and as a Trek fan, it was worth it. This movie was incredibly enjoyable, full of fantastic action, and the acting was really good. The new actors do a great job of inhabiting the roles of their predecessors while putting new life into them. Loved it!

Unbelievable!!!!!! One of the best movies I've seen in many years. If you watched any of the original Star Trek weekly series, then you'll move easily between the dialog. If not, then some phrases may seem foreign. The humor and interplay between the cast was what really made this movie. It captured the essence of the original series. I would highly recommend this movie to all audiences. HUGE THUMBS UP

We thoroughly enjoyed the latest Star Trek adventure. It was fast paced, suspenseful, and funny. We enjoyed getting to know the characters from their beginnings. There was a lot of interesting character development and action as the plot added an element of the unknown. Fans of all ages did and will continue to enjoy this series. Has some character slips that are a bit bothersome, and raises the disturbing possibility that the old Trek universe we knew is just gone, but if it can deal with those issues, a new movie series based on this could have exciting promise.

the movie is perfect in respects of direction, acting, action. the story is well-crafted such that you can easily follow into the "star trek" series.
Enjoyed the exchange between Kirk and Spock, although a little difficult to absorb "Uhura & Spock".
nevertheless, can go and watch this movie multiple times for the action!!

What can I say, this movie is amazing. Totally blew me away with its brilliance both in F/X and script. Easily in the top 5 SciFi of all time, maybe even top 3. JJ treated us Trekkers with respect and still created a ST world that allows for more wonderful movies to come. This is what the Star Trek franchise needed.

Movies don't get any better than this. Great action, good plot, excellent casting, special effects are state of the art. As a stand alone movie it is very good. If you enjoyed Capt Kirk and Spock growing up this movie is great; you can really see how this crew would grow into that team. I will see this again and would highly recommend Star Trek for a great few hours of entertainment
