This is one of the few movies I have anticipated over the last few years that actually lived up to it! Cast was great Downey Jr. was dead-on with what I thought Tony Stark should be. Great action, story. Can't wait for the sequel!!!!

Great first installment for a series, hopefully. Story was great but a bit fast paced, action and CG where exceptional. This was a perfect role for Robert Downey Jr.

I am a long time Iron Man fan, so I was both apprehensive and excited about the new movie. Iron Man, unlike the X-Men or Spider-Man has not really been one of Marvels' better known characters (although, he has two animated series and an animated film to his credit).
However, Robert Downey Jr very quickly shattered any doubts I had, and carried a very convincing Tony Stark onto the silver screen.
The generation of the character was moved out of the comic book origins, which take place in the Viet Nam War era (actually, most Marvel characters are products of the Cold War, Spider-Man and Daredevil being notable exceptions) and moved to more modern battlefields. This was handled very well, and led quite nicely into the evolution of the armour.
Also well-done was the development of Obadiah Stane as the nemesis (again, liberties are taken with the actual comic character, but they are well-handled liberties).
Tony Stark also evolves as he returns from his Middle East captivity a changed and changing man.
All in all, I have to applaud this latest effort from Marvel, and wish them much success with their future projects, which are aimed to take the money generated by Marvel characters, and put it where it belongs: in Marvels' hands, and not the studios'.

This film was a fun, action packed adventure which takes the superhero concept and gives it a contemporary look and feel without overwhelming the audience with over the top special effects. This is the Marvel version of Batman Begins and the acting was very appropriate to the content. Robert Downey Jr reminds us all why he was one of the brightest stars from the brat pack. I would have given this 4 1/2 stars if possible, but it's a definite must see film and will likely dominate the theaters until Indiana Jones is released.

Great actors, great story, characters with depth, kicking action and effects. How often do we get to experience a movie with all of these? Iron Man delivers them and with a vengeance. The result is an intense and exciting film. For those who always wished there would be an Iron Man movie, and I waited since the late 60s for one to exist, it is extremely rewarding. Adaptations made from the comic book successfully retained the series' integrity, so if you're a diehard "Shellhead" fan, there's every chance that you will come away from this with great satisfaction.
Tony Stark, cavalier billionaire playboy and weapons manufacturer is caught in an ambush during a demonstration of his latest missile in Afghanistan. The armor he builds to escape from his captors also keeps him alive. Sidelined from making corporate decisions, Stark streamlines his armor and works to put an end to his business partner's dealings. There's more to it than that, but I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't yet seen the movie or are unfamiliar with the comic.
Robert Downey Jr. plays Stark just right, as a man who'se lived the fast life and been forced to slow down and consider a greater purpose. Gwyneth Paltrow is no stranger to adventure movies, having played a cocky reporter in Sky Captain. Here she is Pepper Potts, Stark's assistant, dutiful and hopelessly unrequited. There are moments between them which are priceless, and could not have succeeded with anyone else. Jeff Bridges is Stark's partner Obadiah Stane, and plays an opportunist with just the right smarminess when it needs to be.
See this movie - as big as you can.

Okay, Okay, I know what you're thinking..."another superhero move???" Well I can honestly say this one is different. I have a 4 year old boy who is into the whole Transformer scene and I couldn't imagine anything pulling his attention away from that, but this movie did. Robert Downey Jr. was quick witted, funny and at his best, he completely owned this role. Gwyneth Paltrow, as always, a very graceful actress. It made you realize how much you've missed seeing her on the big screen. Not to mention, the chemistry between these two actors was fantastic. It made watching a +2hr movie truly painless and actually enjoyable. Without a doubt, I would definitely pay to see this movie on the large screen again. But a word of advice though, from what I hear, one of the funniest parts of the movie is actually after the credits run. Unfortunately, I was given this information too late.

I am a grandmother, dutifully taking her 13 & 11 year old to see Ironman. Wow! Who would have thought I would come out of there pleasantly declaring what a great movie it was. Because it was 2 hrs and 6min long, I was afraid I would have to assure myself that this too shall end...but the time flew by. I also have a new found admiration for Robert Downey Jr. and cannot imagine anyone else in this title role. My grandsons, also had a great day at the movies!

Yes, I liked the movie - very well done.
HOWEVER, in the first 30 minutes the "suggestive content" is really unfortunate. This kind of movie attracts young boys, and to show the few things they felt the need to actually show instead of just insinuate or remove altogether was really too bad. To me, it affected the rest of a great film. Truly no one would have noticed if that wasn't there... but adding it was a detraction.

I thought the movie was excellently done. Just the right amount of humor and action. Would highly recommend it to others. The special effects were done masterfully and Robert Downey Jr. made Tony Stark's character seem very believable. Get out and see it on the silver screen its worth the money.

Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man! I had my doubts when I first read that he would be the lead in a movie that I was greatly anticipating, but he proved to be more than up to the task. The entire cast looked like they were having quite a lot of fun which made the movie viewing experience even more enjoyable. All in all, one of the best comic-book movies that have ever been made.

From previews and reviews I didn't know exactly what to expect from Iron Man except great visual effects. There WERE great effects. But the story, called slow-paced by some, had from beginning to end enough action, comedy, drama, and active story to keep the interest of even the smallest fraction fan-part in us entertained. You can tell the people who put Iron Man together were big fans of the comic, and did justice to it. Great Representation, fellas!

Definitely one of the top blockbusters stemming from a comic book, or any other summer blockbuster for that matter. What sets it apart from many movies of the same genre is that it had a definite plot, issues relevant to present-day people, dialogue that obviously was written and not simply ad-libbed, and the concept of the original still shown strongly through. Whereas many movies in this genre are watered down in production meetings, anything unothordox/quirky about this movie was allowed to stay. Great.

Iron Man exceeded all of my expectations. I loved it and so did my daughter the critic, who is very hard to please. There was action, humor, drama, the love interest, and the bad guys, and oh yes, the villain. I have got to get my hands of an Iron Man T-Shirt. WOW! The way Iron Man looked was fabulous with a lot of detail. Oh, I guess I should mention the acting. Robert Downey Jr. was at his best!

This movie is well worth the price of a ticket and one I'll be buying the day it comes out on DVD. Robert Downey, Jr. nails this role. The effects are amazing and the story, engaging. This is the first movie I've seen in a long time that I wanted to stay and watch over again. Awesome stuff!

I am a huge Robert Downey fan, but wasn't so excited about seeing him in this movie. I was so wrong, RDJ's version on Iron Man and Tony Stark is fantastic, very engaging. All the actors bring dynamic life to their characters and the film nicely addresses some critical issues as well. This is a must see for people of all ages. Total entertainment, and a delightful performance by Robert Downey Jr!

This is by far the best comic book hero movie in years if not decades. The story held up really well, The effects worked well with the story, they were part of the story not a distraction.
The acting was perfect, Robert Downey was the right chose for Tony Sparks, if anyone knows about being a famous playboy with an addiction (in this case booze) its Downey.
Jeff Bridges as a villain was great casting against type.
Overall I would highly recommend this one.

Ya know I liked this movie, although it was slow getting started. I liked Robert Downey alot as well as Gwenth. They were great. I had a hard time picturing Jeff Bridges in the role of the villian though. I have seen himin so many other roles. I was disappointed though at some of the violence scenes in the desert and with the Innuendos. I should have read the PG-13 rating more carefully. I took my 9 year old son and had I of known about some of the content, I would not have. I would not recommend it to any child under 13-14.. I like Transformers etc much better. It was an ok movie though.

This is definitely the best comic book movie I've ever seen. I was skeptical from the previews but I'd heard the reviews were great so I gave it a chance. You don't need to be a comic book fan to enjoy this movie. Robert Downey was excellent - I hope there's a sequel and that it's equally as good!
