This movie shows what Marvel can do when in control of their own properties. The casting is great. The mix of practical and digital effects looks great. The story is well done, picking the right parts of his long history to make the movie enjoyable for fanboys and people new to Ironman alike. Hopefully this movie is just the start of fantastic movies from Marvel Studios. Plus the link to the rest of the Marvel Universe characters that is put in here makes me hopeful for crossovers. And by the way, if you haven't heard, stay after the credits are completed for a special scene.

I have to say that Iron Man is one of the better movies I have seen in the action genre in a while. Lots of action, humor and even a hint of romance for those who like that sort of content. Robert Downey Jr. did an excellent job in role of Tony Stark. Pretty much the entire audience applauded at the end of the movie. Special effects played a major role in the movie but was not over-powering. Go see it, even if you do not know who Iron Man is. I thought it was worth full price, but should be at least worth a matinées price for anyone.

All I have to say is that I don't even much care for Iron Man (out of all the Marvel characters anyway) and I LOVED this movie! Robert Downey, Jr. was excellent, and I hardly recognized Jeff Bridges! They were both quite excellent in their roles, along with Gwenyth Paltrow and Terrence Howard. For his directorial debut, Jon Favreau gets an A+ from me! Way to go Marvel! Iron Man is an excellent way to start your production company, and I'm greatly looking forward to The Incredible Hulk now!

Iron Man moves from the first scene to the last in ways that I wasn't expecting. The special effects were top-notch, though I was upset that Iron Man looks like a Transformer at times. (Why couldn't they go a step farther and use the skin tight metal like in the comic books?) The acting was top-notch, even if Downey was just being himself, what with all the booze and women. What surprised me were the updates: the Ten Fingers (a reference to The Mandarin's ten rings) and SHIELD and Jarvis, being a computer program. That made it very cool, a nod to the comic books but enough of a clean break for the movie to stand on its own.

Face it, you don't go to these movies to see great acting...you go for great action and this movie delivers!! There's also a bit of comedy and moments that make you want to chear...and many in my theater did! I loved how this movie played out and it set itself up nicely for the sequel!

You've got to see this movie! I caught a midnight showing to avoid the crowds and it was extremely worth it.
I'd been waiting on this for years and wasn't disapointed. Years ago, I was critic al of Robert Downey Jr. because it angered me that someone so talented would throw their life away with drugs and drama. This was the perfect role for him because the character he played (Tony Stark) synonymously lived a carefree life only to come to a crossroads where a decision had to be made. That's when the big epiphany happened, giving him reasons to live/work towards something higher.
Marvel continues to successfully re-invent itself on film! This is yet another franchise that will have a strong following.

Iron Movie is a good comic book adaptation. Of course there are logical deviations from the original storyline, but any reasonable fan would expect and accept these changes. The movie moves at a good pace, with few dull moments, and (even more impressively) fewer "corny" moments which remind you that this is an comic book movie. The best thing about this movie-- Robert Downey, Jr.; he rocks as Tony Stark. The worst, maybe Terrence Howard; he's OK as Rhoades, but does provide a few of the aforementioned "corny" scenes. However, it's worth the wait and the $$. One big hint, stay until the closing credits are over. There's a VERY nice teaser there.

I was hesitant at first about this movie. Honestly I expected it to be like the last HULK movie. I was ever so wrong. This movie gave great background to IRON MAN and shows progression of him starting with basic ideas and turning them into his stellar suit. Downey was perfect for this part as well as his evil counter part Bridges. Great action and humor... And don't forget to stay after the credits for a surprise!

Quite frankly this is what summer blockbusters are all about. Robert Downey Jr. plays the role of the witty Tony Stark perfectly. This is one of the few times that a comic book stays true to the basics of the original story. It has been updated (war on terror vs Vietnam war), but it is definately for the better.
If you want a movie to just sit back and enjoy this is it.

The story was fairly close to the comic, updated for present dat. The choice of Robert Downey Jr was excellent. He was outstanding. The chemistry was very good. The special effects were top notch.

This is definitely the best Marvel movie to be made yet. I must admit I may be a little biased due to the fact that this movie is based around what my line of work will be after college, but even setting that aside, I still think it is up there in my top 3 favorite hero movies of all time. definitely worth the money many times over.

I was never a huge Iron Man fan. I'm more a fan of X-Men. But I went to this movie expecting hardcore action and a little bit of story in the background. That isn't what I saw. The story was very deep to me, and relevant with today's current events. Robert Downey Jr, shines as Tony Stark, he really captured being a self-absorbed, alcoholic, brilliant genius. Gweneth Paltrow surprised me in her role of Pepper Potts. Her character reminded me a little of Money-Penny from the James Bond movies. I couldn't tell whether or not the two developed any deeper relationship other than their professional one.
Also: BIG TIP, stay all the way through the credits!!!! Someone makes a "guest appearance!"

This is definitely one of the best Marvel Comic-turned-movie in some time. Lots of action, cool gadgets, and moments of awe.
Robert Downey Jr. is perfect as the pompous Tony Stark from scene 1. The first half of the movie gives the origins of Iron Man. And it just gets better hen he returns home to improve the Iron Man armor.
Make sure you stay until the very, VERY end of the movie - after ALL the credits have run, for a big, crazy surprise. And then you'll be asking yourself the same questions we were. When and how are all these Marvel Comics superheroes gonna cross paths.
I mean, could you imagine one movie with Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Hulk (Edward Norton), Fantastic Four (ie, Jessica Alba), the X-men, Spiderman (No, not Tobey again), Captain America, Dr. Strange...
do you see where this could go?!?

I was slightly cynical about this movie because I have been let down by the blockbusters in the past few years (especially the comic book turned movie ones). But, I have to say I really enjoyed it. Robert Downey Jr is hilarious and very entertaining. The special fx with the music and casting are truely amazing. It pushed the envelope a little bit, having the villains be Afganistan terrorists, however I think it really can speak to a variety of people especially of our generation. Jon Favreau did a wonderful job and I doubt anyone would be disappointed in seeing it.

I caught this one lastnight during the midnight showing at a local theater. I have to say...Jon Favreau does not disappoint. Every character was very well cast. Robert Downey, Jr., who is one of his generation's most underappreciated actors, captured the interesting dichotomy of Tony Stark's narcissism and compassion with a comedic flair. Jeff Bridges, as Stark's mentor/nemesis, Obadiah Stane(Iron Monger), does a superb job as a ruthless corporate titan. Throw in Terrence Howard as best friend, Jim Rhodes and beautiful Gwyneth Paltrow as Personal Assistant, Pepper Potts...and you have an all-star cast.
The action is fast-paced and exciting without overpowering as a crutch for lack of plot....on the contrary, the plot straddles the fine line between realism and the fantastic world of comics. It doesn't ask you to suspend your disbelief, but at the same time, stays surprisingly true to it's comic book roots.
A truly enjoyable film. Looks like the summer movie season has begun...

As an action movie it is very enjoyable. Tony Stark is a fun character with lots of great lines.
If you are an Iron Man fan it turns it into the best movie ever created in the history of forever. Robert Downey Jr. absolutely nails Tony Stark.
Make sure you stay in the theatre to the bitter end. You will want to sit through the ending credits...

I've read reviews that tout Iron Man as the greatest super hero movie since the first Spider-Man. I disagree. Everything about this movie is twice as good as anything ever seen in any of the Spider-Man flicks. Most notably, the dialogue is WAY better. Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark. The corny cliches are not to be heard here. The rest of the cast does an equally great job with thier characters. Favreau did an excellent directorial job, and I don't think I even need to talk about the special effects. Bottom line: See this movie. Don't forget to stay through the credits for a special treat.

Iron Man was a very good movie - but would have been better with a little more Iron Man and a little less Tony Stark. I guess with the first movie the story has to go through the whole origin but the scenes where Stark became Iron Man were so awesome I couldn't get enough of them. Overall very good but I liked Spiderman, FF, X-Men, Daredevil and Ghost Rider a little More.

The movie wasn't perfectly attuned with how I recall the comic books, but SO WHAT?! It was fantastic. The chemistry between the actors was compelling it brought us into the story. The tech in the movies was cool, and not so unrealistic as to be sci-fi but close enough to real that you said, that could really happen...
Overall the movie itself was satisfying it was funny, tense, exciting and overall fun.
I give it 5 stars!
