A Nice Fable for the Young Folk

This follows the Disney formula: Kids dealing with trouble, finding that most adults are trustworthy, while others are not to be trusted at all - A good lesson really.
The setting is an underground city, built many years before as a refuge from a damaged world. Ember is falling into ruin: The original builders had a plan to repopulate the Earth, but the people have learned to let authority do the thinking for them, and the plan failed. Two young heros find the resolve to leave Ember and find a better life.
My sixth-grader son loved it, and I have to say that I found it enjoyable. There are a few scenes with people in peril, but most kids from 5-10 years old would like it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great Film - The Whole Family Loved It

The folks at Pixar are the masters of making movies that are enjoyable for all age groups.
It is really a boy meets girl story, woven into a fable about what happens if people don't take care of themselves and don't take care of the earth. Without giving away too many details: Several hundred years in the future, the Earth has fallen into a disasterous mess due to neglect by the human race, who have abandoned it until such time the Earth recovers and becomes habitable again. One little robot is still back home, working endlessly and alone for all that time, to deal with the clean-up, apparently forgotten.
Physically, WALL E is something of an outmoded clunker, who has to repair himself from odd parts he finds, but makes the best of a hum-drum existance. One day, a spaceship returns to check up on the planet. The actual checking is done by a modern girl robot named EVE, who is flashy, sports a mean ray gun, and is everything that WALL E is not. You get the picture.
The movie does take a hard shot at mindless consumerism, and at people who live only for comfort. I suspect that a number of the poor reviews are from people that were offended by this.
Disney likes to include positive role models for girls in their movies, and even managed it in a robot film. Eve, who is dynamic, loyal and affectionate, is full of the right stuff.
This movie is the equal of Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and all of the other Pixar classics. The short at the beginning is also one of the best they have made.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I saw this show with my wife and 18 year-old son, and we all liked it. I found the flim very enjoyable and entertaining. Jackie Chan and Jet Li always provide high quality stuff with a positive message. A common theme of Chan's work seems to be to encourage the little guy and to do things with calm assurance. These are the kind of lessons people used to learn through folk tales.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
