Although this film did not live up to the hype for me, I enjoyed it. Ryan Gosling is a comic surprise, Julianne Moore underused, Carell did his usual but there were breakout performances...the son and babysitter. Some nice surprises and twists added life to the second half that I found mising in the first. The garden scene was hilarious and well choreographed. Also thought the getting to know you scene was well written and shot.
Always love a good romantic comedy but this one shines via some fabulous dialogue between the two leads. The best thing about the film is Mila Kunis who feels like the coming of a big MOVIE STAR to me. She's adorable, beautiful, has a natural quality to her delivery but her voice is what distinquishes her. When I first saw Demi Moore in BLAME IT ON RIO I knew she would reach the stars because her voice was so distinctive. Same with Kunis
So exciting to me. Way too long and hated the preachy and importance diluting epilogue that tried to change the subject to ecologiccal and anti nuke sentiments but boy could that (those?) cavemen paint. It left me with so many questions..why no depiction of humans..superstition or religion? Why did they bother exploring THAT cave and have they continued to explore that area further for more
THE CONSPIRATOR was a story well-told, well acted and well produced. Wright and McAvoy outdid themselves in presenting their characters. I appreciated being told the "whole"story of the Lincoln assasination, never having heard anything about this aspect. I also appreciated the accuracy of the sets and costumes which added so much to the mood of the film. You could almost feel how scratchy the fabrics were...don't get the criticisms about boring and too slow. Some things just have to unfold
I am not one to deride a film for its slow pacing when the characters are well exposed, well acted and it moves along, albeit slowly. I found this film glacial. I have loved her previous films but Ms Copola lost me on this one. Fanning's performance was perfect; her looks at dad after being joined by dad's overnight guest for breakfast were priceless, proving that words are not necessary for conveyance of emotion. But the wordless first minutes of this film set the tone for nothingness that I suppose she was trying to portray
been there seen this..only done much better. A silly bit of fluff made as a payday for two big stars...the best reason to see it is to revisit Venice..way too many long loving shots at AJ's face with its serene and flirty downcast eyes and pulled in cheeks. Love him but serious miscasting..the twist was obvious to me about 10 minutes in
I went in with high hopes but instead found excellent actors weighed down by dumbed down stereotypes. Was this supposed to get the public more comfortable with lesbian family life? If so, it failed by not reflecting AT ALL the lives of the lesbian couples I know. It felt like a big glossy hollywood version of what a "suit" would imagine it to be. . Some good dialogue and the kids were excellent. mostly EH
With a perfect sense of time & place, this film will disappoint those who go for a musical trip. Watch the documentary. Some of the casting & acting was great and how much do I love Liev Schrieber? The g*y story line was too delicately approached, even though Ellliot was so tentative. Either show it or don't. Loved that he never saw the music acts, just like he had a hard time realizing his true self .
I'm not sure who the intended audience was for this sequel. We saw the 1st by accident when we got sold out of our intended film but LOVED IT. Many of the cultural references flew by the kids in our audience who laughed mostly at the kissing, bathroom jokes. Azaria was fab, is Amy Adams not the cutest thing going? and Smithsonian shots made me want to buy a ticket to DC just for that experience. Oh, loved when Stiller & Adams landed IN the artworks
I wasn't expecting much but a laugh on a rainy day but this film couldn't even meet that standard. In and out of plotlines every five minutes, the only character who is somewhat fleshed out is Gigi who is a pathetic wimp with no self-esteem and less self understanding. And how does Jennifer Connelly's character get to be her guide through the maze? She's so knowledgeable she's more infuriated over her snake of a husband's smoking than she is outraged by his cheating with ScoJo? blame it on renovation distraction!Scarlett, get a new agent! Every obvbious, predictable story line is used. TOTAL YUCK BAAAD MOVIE, not funny
