I seriously thought there couldn't possibly be anything worse than Eat Pray Love, and then comes along Hereafter...It is so bad that one of the lines was actually "I was an atheist and that's why I missed all of this..." at that moment a couple of people started leaving the cinema, I was too chicken to follow right away, but then it sucked even more, then I just had to walk out too and spare myself of this preachy crap.
Heigl is a master of the romantic comedy, she is totally enjoyable. Josh Duhamel, surprisingly good enough to make you hate him through most of the movie, so credit to his acting. But the story is just not very credible or convincing, but nevertheless still very enjoyable.
It's one of those movies that after you watch it, you go: "is that all there is?" All the tricks has been done before, all the twists you have seen them before, in the end, nothing is especially impressive or surprising, just very so-so.
The 3D wasn't as cheezy as I thought it might be, it was extremely apropos, only what the story needed, not 3D for 3D's sake, ever, very nice. Visually, the world of the avatars was so beautiful, beyond words, you want so very much to go and live in that world eternally, just like the main character Jake. The story was compelling, simple, and in my opinion worked better than if it had all kinds of complicated plots which many typical Hollywood films have that takes away from the wholeness of the movie, which this movie thankfully did not do that. I loved it so much I want to collect the DVD in Blue Ray and relive it again and again!
"Formosa Betrayed": Democracy ultimately lives precariously in the hearts & conscience of each of us. Using true events of Taiwan government's contract murder of US citizen inside the US & how US gov't looked the other way, the profound & grander issue courageously tackled is "what does it mean to be 'alive'? Just to be 'living'? Or live courageously to not compromise for politics or self interest?" The film simply blew my mind...I literallyhad to put down my popcorn & drink to fully take in what this amazingly brave movie tried to show me...about me & who I am as a human being. I had moderate expectations, & I was left speechless in awe when the credits rolled.
