I think they did an excellent job with the first part of Book 7. Was a little concerned how and where they would end, but was very pleased at the outcome. The covered the content very well, keeping as much as possible from the book.

If you've read the books go see this movie. You'll like seeing a more faithful rendering of the Deathly Hallows. Ignore the reviewers who say it's slow or too dark, etc. That's what the first half of the book was all about. Harry's insecurity in himself, Dumbledore and his self appointed task.
The downside is the same complaint I've had with this screen writer's five other efforts in the HP series. He completely ignores the parallel structure Rowling built into the books and why this series is so influential. Love, forgiveness, and redemption are cut out over and over. Dudley never tells Vernon, "Harry's all right" before leaving, The kids don't redeem creature and themselves for past conflicts. RAB's story is never told, and worst of all, Dumbledore's back story is glossed over which makes me wonder what they'll do with Ababforth in Part II.
Pro: 4.5 stars, very good rendering of the story's facts
Con: skips the undercurrent themes

For those who may have been stuck in a Chilean mine shaft or abducted by aliens, you might not actually know that the final chapter of the boy wizard that lived made its part one debut today across the country in time for the holiday season. If you don't know the story to date then mores the pity on your muggle soul but I will let you know that this is by far the best acted film to date and the characters shine through over the special effects. Harry, Hermione and Ron aka Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are joined by a few of my favorite actors to make this penultimate installment shine such as Bill Nighy and David O'Hara. This movie does deliver on the scares and there are a few scenes that startled me in my chair that were most welcome. You don't need me to tell you to go see this movie, most likely you already have your tickets in hand, but as intended the movie leaves you wanting and ready for the conclusion due out on July 15, 2011.

This movie was awesome. My husband and I went yesterday, and he will usually fall asleep near the beginning of any movie we go see, but not this time!!! He loved it and so did I. Can't wait for the second part in July!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought this movie was great and much better than the Half-Blood Prince. I did think some of the scenes in the woods got a little bit slow. There were a lot of scary, suspenseful parts though and the beginning of the movie was great. It definitely left you wanting to see the second part right away. I thought that there could have been a small kiss between Hermione and Ron. Some weirdly intimate parts between her and Harry.

I loved this movie. It followed the book more closely than either Order of the Phoenix or Half-Blood Prince, which is refreshing. I credit the more active involvement of JK Rowling in this one for that and applaud everyone involved for keeping Yates more closely to the storyline. There could have been more dialogue explaining some of the action, which would have helped people who had either not read the books or who hadn't read them in a while to follow the plot, but overall it kept the action going and the viewer interested. Can't wait for Part 2!!!

One of my favorite in the series, if not the. Yes, they leave things out from the book, but they need to and they made good choices with it - and I bet they will fill in other things in Part 2. I enjoyed the Movie, U have read the books and seen all the movies. I thought to do justice to the Book and the previous movies this Book had to be done in two parts. There are to many loose ends that one movie could do. The book, The Deadly Hallows, was the longest of the whole series. The Sorrcerer's Stone has 309 pages and The Chamber of Secrets has 341 pages. But The Deadly Hallows has pages 759. The story starts out just before Harry reaches of Age in the Wizarding world. In order to keep Harry safe the Order of Phoenix moves him in secret. The problem is the Dark Lord Vodlemort already knows that Harry is going to be moved and when. One eyed Moody one of the Weasley twins is killed along with Harry's Owl Sedwick. A Wedding was also planned to follow after Harry was brought into hiding. The wedding is held and the followers of Lord Vodlemort, The Death Eaters, destroy the Weasley house. This forces Harry to go into hiding along with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. From there the go looking for the the rest of the Horrcruxes.
I enjoyed the movie very much and will go see it again.

ok movie was good and I would let my friends see it.
1) they say they were not castle bound for this movie, I guess moving into a tent is expanding where they are at. Not really, and do they have to have so may used stages from the past shows to camp at?
2) why not cut some of the time off of Harry and show what is happing with Ron, Since they are camping and trying to figure out things. You can glue more of the moving together than making people guess or have book insight.
3) if your trying to show that harry is in a reslationship why not more about it in the past. Or leave it out like its been done before.
effects are great as always but really should it be two parts?? why not have some of the other movies 2 parts and filling in more of the gaps of his life? Oh and everyone I talked to guess that was were it was going to stop, without looking at a watch and timing it.

I really wish I had been in my teens when these books came out so I could have been one of the kids that grew up with these books. Being a bit older does not deminish my love any less though. The Fandom is amazing with itswebsites, podcasts and conventions. The movies are equally treasured and just add to the chance to talk more Potter. I must say Kudos to all the directors and espcially to Steve Kloves. I think his challege was daunting but he did a very amicable job. Equally so did the directors. There was a moment where I sincerely gasped full well knowing what was coming but was shocked all the same. The subtle change made it all the better. Of course I felt the scenes that provoked tears were done perfectly. If you are the fan that will relish in any little bit of Harry Potter or just need a good movie to see, this is the one. I just wish I could have stayed seated and continued watching part 2.

First off, I am a huge fan of both the books and the movies and I understand that the material has to be changed for the movie adaptation. Now with that said, I felt this was a good movie but not great like some of the past efforts. I think it suffers from being only part of the end. The last book would have probably made a good 3 hour movie, but that hurts the family audience it was seeking. The pace was just a little too slow. Hopefully, the next part picks it up a lot.

As an avid reader of the Harry Potter books, I felt like the movie missed several key points. The last good bye between Harry and the Dudley was an important part. Also, Wormtails final act of goodness was not dipicted in the movie. The running away was very unlike the 3 of them. Normally, they would stand and fight. And what is it about the bouncy camera. All in all, It was another great movie and IMAX rocks.

We enjoyed the movie very much. For this particular movie, you need to understand that it is just a set up for the finale. Thus, there was a bit less action, but still plenty of special effects and action to satisfy any Harry Potter fan. We really liked the dialogue between Harry, Hermanie and Ron in this movie; you can see their growth as actors. Still, my personal HP preference remains with the first two movies when the actors were cute kids in a fantasy world. created by Director Chris Columbus.

This movie was absolutely AMAZING!!! All Harry Potter fans will love this movie! It was very intense and I thought the time flew by quickly. I thought a lot of the book was cut out but they did a nice job with what they fit into the time allotted. There's just too much detail to put in the movie. Definitely worth seeing...not sure it's for little kids though. It was awesome to see on IMAX.

The whole movie was like an emotional roller coaster: I laughed, I cried, I was scared, I was happy, and many other emotions. But, there were 2 important things they left out from the book that I thought were pretty important parts. Overall, it was TOTALLY AWESOME!

One of my pet-peeves with the majority of previous Harry Potter movies was the blatant exclusion of primary characters or sub-plots that the books had which made the movies feel empty and as an avid reader and fan of the books, feeling frustrated with the movies. This is not the case with Part 1 of The Deathly Hallows! This time the folks the folks at WB finally got it right and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of details that was included! I cannot wait to see this movie again!
