I agree, definitely a different style, but what else can you expect from a director who did Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz? The movie has the pop/indie flair but has quite a bit of action and mischief to it. Not a huge fan of Michael Cera, but if you've been getting sick of him recently, this movie is definitely a very satisfying experience because he doesn't play Michael Cera in this movie. He plays Scott Pilgrim, and his acting very much resembles Scott's persona very tightly. I'll watch it again.

Great movie, Napoleon Dynamite with alot more kick..literally. Action scenes were tastefully done and story was good with very few noticable plot holes. Only downside is Micheal Cera is getting a tad bit typecast.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It's different than anything else in theaters and a rockin' good time. In terms of a comic adaptation, it's fairly faithful in terms of transferring the main elements of six comic volumes into one epic big-screen adventure. Visually, it's the next evolutionary step from the Adam West Batman series, and Scott Pilgrim proves that sound effects on screen don't have to be hokey.
All of that said, it's not for everyone. If you grew up loving video games, comic books, and good music, then this is for you; anyone else may want to avoid it.

Unique, true to the comic books and loads of fun from beginning to end. I'm not sure I'll look back in 6 months and proclaim this movie "best of the year" but it was just so enjoyable it's hard to say a bad word about it. The casting was so spot on - every "evil ex" is funnier than the last. Major props to Chis Evans, Brandon Routh, and Jason Schwartzmann for doing something out of their normal elements. I hate to admit that Michael Cera may have been the weakest part of the film. Don't get me wrong, I love MC, and he plays the affable awkward guy great, but the supporting cast was just THAT GOOD. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was beautiful & hilarious. Kudos to Edgar Wright for his first Simon Pegg-less success!

I must start off by saying that this movie is not for everyone. It appealed to me, because of my geeky side. I grew up in the era of NES, Sega Genesis, and the first version of Game Boy; so the 8-bit style they referenced throughout really appealed to me. You can't take the movie serious: it's fun, silly, and at the same time full of kick butt action. Some may have a hard time believing Michael Cera's character can kick butt like that, but again; if you just go with it, the movie won't disappoint.

Well, I must say I completely underestimated Michael Cera. He still bothers me, but it was interesting to see him play a different version of the character he always seems to play in all his movies. Don't get me wrong, Scott Pilgrim was still an extremely awkward dude, but he could really kick some butt.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is probably one of the BEST movies I've seen so far this year. It was so different then anything I'd seen before. The format, the direction, the editing, it was all so well done. It was an incredibly fast-paced comedy.
We have Scott Pilgrim; he's in a band with some of his close friends, lives with his gay best friend Wallace, has an overbearing sister and is dating a 17 year old girl named Knives.
Things are going great between Scott and Knives, he picks her up from school and they hang out at the local arcade and music store. They almost even held hands at one point. Then Scott has a dream about a girl, then he sees her at the library while out with Knives. He believes she is the girl of his dreams.
He sees her again at a party and talks to her. He proceeds to make a complete fool out of himself and then stalk her for the rest of the party while asking everyone if they know anything about her.
Later he tells his roommate Wallace about this girl, Ramona Flowers. Wallace tells him he needs to break it off with Knives if he is going to pursue another girl. Scott says he'll do it, but then realizes that he can't. So he continues going out with Knives and he continues to pursue Ramona and he finally gets her to go out with him.
Once they start dating the problems begin and Scott realizes he needs to fight and defeat Ramona's seven evil exes.
He finally breaks up with Knives, making the Ramona the only girl in his life. Then his ex show up. Envy dated Scott the year before and when her band got signed, she dumped him. She is now dating a guy named Todd, played by Brendan Routh (more on him later :)
We find out that Ramona also dated Todd, so Scott has to defeat him. He succeeds, but this causes a little rift between him and Ramona. The fact that this was the typical boy loses girl moment in any chick flick type film, was almost completely lost. I blame this entirely on Michael Cera and his mediocre acting ability.
Anyways, Scott is back hanging out with his band-mates, who are getting ready for their next big gig, which happens to be against two more of Ramona's exes.
They go and he defeats the two of them and he also meets Gideon, the final ex, who manages to steal Ramona away from him.
Scott is now left with nothing, his band signed a deal with Gideon and Ramona decided she wanted to get back with Gideon. With more advice from Wallace telling him to continue fighting for her, he goes to defeat Gideon.
The final battle has Scott professing his love for Ramona only to be killed by Gideon. Never fear, he had won a free life from his previous battle and returns learning his lesson and finally defeating Gideon with the help of Knives who original came to win Scott back from Ramona.
Ramona apologizes to Scott telling him that he is the nicest guy she ever dated and that he and Knives make a cute couple. As she walks off Knives tells Scott to go after Ramona. He does and we have a happy ending.
Now this movie played out like a video game and a comic book, which is great because it is based on a comic book and video game.
The effects were amazing and well done. The acting was a little extreme, but it worked perfectly for this movie. I LOVED the transitions in this film, they were AWESOME.
All of the characters brought something to the story. The plot was a bit strange, the conflict started as man vs. outside world and then suddenly changed to man vs. self. The transition there was a bit... weird. Once again I'm going to blame this on Michael Cera. (Ha-ha)
So, let's talk about Brandon Routh... and his arms. Dude, I wasn't too fond of his hair, but let's just say he had some arms to rival Jared Padalecki... and that's saying a lot. Hee.
This movie was REALLY Funny. Kieran Culkin brought a lot of the humor. He played Wallace. Wallace and Scott lived together in this little one bedroom basement with one bed, which they shared. Some of the funniest moments were when Scott would wake up then you'd see Wallace pop up and then one of Wallace's many boyfriends... sometimes more than just the one.
Another thing I MUST touch on is the music, it was great, very indie. I loved it. The score and the lyrical songs. They were all really great.
From the characters to the direction to the music this movie was fantastic. Just ignore Michael Cera and enjoy everything else. I'm partially kidding, I did mean what I said, he took his one character and he changed him a bit, he wasn't extremely likable and he was a bit FACEPALM! Awkward at many points, but the character was amusing and I did like him.
Go see this movie. I'd pay to see it again and maybe one more time. This is my favorite movie so far this year. GO SEE IT!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Action was good and creative, but it felt like a Spy Kids movie with gay jokes (which were funny). If you were (are) a gamer and like fighting games, you'll get a kick out of the references.
I'm a "character vs story" guy and this movie had little character development and a pretty shallow story line. But I've never read the gr. novel so there's no connection for me. As a movie on it's own, it was meh.

I don't care what the box office says, this is a great movie. While not for everyone, the movie can reach a wider audience than originally thought. It is smart, incredibly funny, distinctly charming, and visually stunning (while not being an onslaught). The music of the movie was a strong point. My biggest problem is movie's frenetic pace.
To me, this was not the typical role for Michael Cera. Many people disagree, but I don't see where they come up with that idea. Winstead and Cera had little chemistry, which is a slight problem. Ellen Wong was excellent as 17 year old Knives Chau, who is Scott's fangirl, and girlfriend at the beginning of the movie.
All in all, this is the movie for the Nintendo generation.

So often, movies fail to live up to their hype. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World delivers big time. I've already seen it twice and can't wait to go back for more. It's the flick that keeps on giving. Action, romance, incredible, imaginatively choreographed fight sequences, humorous script -- this film has a bit of everything to satisfy your summer cinema appetite. Scott Pilgrim is a great example of the movie-going "escape" we all crave. You are transformed into a world you've never seen because you've never seen a movie shot and edited quite this way -- creative and highly stylized. Bring on the sequel -- this is the next great movie franchise!!!

I read the first Scott Pilgrim graphic novel with my comic book club. And I really enjoyd it except for all the homosexual humor.
Well...you can say...the film adaptation lives up to the source material. There is great comic book style action with a video game flare, but way too much gay comedy for the straight guy to have to endure.
The fight scenes were intense and the special effects were really cool! The story was funny, quirky, and creative.
However, after having recently seen The Expendables, I wasn't totally sold on the Scott Pilgrim anti-hero. Michael Cera was more mouse than man.
Fortunately the film had Anna Kendrick, the saving grace for a heterosexual male moviegoer! Oh thank heaven!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is more successful than The Other Guys, Dinner for Schmucks, Date Night, The Expendables or any other movie claiming to be an action and/or comedy (romantic or otherwise) movie at those respective genres. While the movie is billed quite heavily as a primarily for the nerd subculture and containing many references, even those not inclined to the bleeps and bloops of the 8-bit age will still have a fantastic time with this movie. Visual and audio gags fill up the screen at every turn and those who ARE of the nerd variety, especially those between the ages of 18 and 30 will fall instantly in love with the throwbacks to the arcade and 8-bit systems. Fun, imaginative, and a pastel portrait of video game movies compared with the earlier summer comic book adaptation Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim is full to bursting with craziness that you want to get yourself wrapped up in. This is a movie that stays with you the same as Inception and Toy Story 3 did, if only for some of the amazing imagery that Edgar Wright provides us. This film is something that, like the previously mentioned Inception and Toy Story 3 will become a classic, a must watch for both film nerds, classic geeks, and even those on the outer rim of the subcultures that are simply in it for a good time.
Oh, and for those who hate Michael Cera, I would love to argue that he really does seem to play against his own grain but that'll probably fall on deaf ears, instead, I will say this: he gets beaten up. A lot.
And the soundtrack absolutely rocks, for anyone who says they love Alt-Rock at all, the soundtrack is an absolute must own.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
