I think that's what the makers of this movie were trying to say. The hero is a klutzy skinny kid that doesn't want to fight or kill.
His father is the leader of the village so well you know it kinda comes with the territory.
This is a very good movie for the youngsters in teaching them that enemies may not be monsters but just misunderstood.
Of course, the cinematography was outstanding and the jokes were livable.
I liked it.

Great movie for kids and adults. DreamWorks does not dissapoint with the action and animation for the kids and the humor and wit for the adults. Really enjoyed the movie with my 2 yr old and 4 yr old daughters.

Although the animation was incredible in this movie, it lacked the hype. Did not find very much humor in it. And it is a lot scarier for the younger kid set to which it seemed to be geared. Definitely glad we did not see it in 3D as I can only imagine the nightmares the kids would have. This is not one I would see again. For older kids, probably great.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This movie has to be the BEST we have ever seen, which includes Avitar we saw the week before. It kept all the family at the edge of our seats, from our 3 year old to the 48 year old. In a word "FANTASTICO."

I took my 4 and 7 year olds to see this movie in 3D. It was highly entertaining. The animation and design was unbelievable and the storyline was very exciting. We found Hiccup's dragon, Toothless, reminded us of our cat - only nicer! Very enjoyable movie for the family and I would highly recommend it!

While this movie is geared towards kids, there is plenty of fun for parents as well! and, as a Viking Age history buff, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the remarkably accurate details in the background. The rather silly horned helmets were cute and I could ignore them as "expected' by the general public. The dragons were by turns scary and adorable and the requisite lesson was not too heavy handed and directed mostly at parents. The animation very nice and the dialogue clever. I've never read this series of books as my kids are long past this age but I may pick them up to read myself and see if they would be suitable for my infant nephew when he gets a bit older.

Saw the previews on TV and was thrilled when my daughter needed my help to watch my grandsons, 8 & 11over spring break -- I knew where we were headed! The movie exceeded my expectations; the story was compelling and the animation terrific. We opted out of the 3-D as a previous experience had left my older granson with a headache. It was wonderful without additional special effects.

It was a very fun movie, but did have a few pretty "adult" type comments in it, but they went right over my 8-yr olds head (it is rated PG for a reason). Fantastic animation (as usual) am disappointed the theater we went to did not have it in 3D, but it was still great nonetheless.
We will probably go back to see it again!

I went with my niece and daughter they our 17 and 13 years old. They both loved it and the movie has a great story line. It does have some scenes of fire and mild violence but overall it is a great movie. Absolutely worth seeing in the movie theater.
I dont know if the 3D would be very good but it may be if you like 3D movies I would say it would be worth the money. Take the kids enjoy a great movie.

I took my almost 5 year old son to see this on opening night and he hasn't shut up about dragons ever since. He loves to go to the movies but typically after the show is done he doesn't mention it till it comes out on DVD or he sees a preview about it. With this movie he is just as psyched about it after he's seen as he was before he saw it. Probably more so!!!

My wife and I took our 4 year-old daughter to this film two days after its release, and it did not disappoint! The animation was fantastic as we now expect from Dreamworks, the story was engaging and fun, and we all loved it! I'd recommend this movie to anyone who has a little bit of imagination or sense of whimsy.

Our group of four movie goers consisted of a 3 yr old, 12 yr old, 46 yr old and 69 yr old. Giggling, snickering, edge-of-your-seat breath-holding, sighing and heart touching "awwws"...that's what "How to Train Your Dragon" is all about. The perfect balance between Vikings and Dragons, our opinions are consistent, we all LOVE it!

Definitely DreamWorks' second best animated film, behind Kung Fu Panda! It does have a lot of similiarities with Panda, in that it takes place in a psuedo-fantasy foreign land, and the pop culture references are non-existent. A rockin' good time at the movies!

This is an awesome movie for the whole family! We really enjoyed it. This movie has a great message in it, for both parents and children. We decided to see the regular version vs. 3D, because sometimes it is difficult for our 4-year to wear the 3D glasses and have them stay on her head, however, I think we are all wanting to see it in 3D now. I cannot imagine you being disappointed in this film.

Took 2 little girls to see the movie and who knew how much I would enjoy it. Has to be one of the best animated movies (I've seen them all) that I have seen...right up there with Cars. Not to scary, humorous in parts, and had the focus on the right part of the movie, developing the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless. Did a wonderful job of exploring the insecurities of a pre-teen/teen boy having to deal with living up to his father's tremendous reputation. Really a fun movie for everyone. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The animation is very well done. The soundtrack is great. The Characters are engaging. I also brought all of my kids from age 7 to 24. All enjoyed the movie. That is proff that this movie has mass appeal. The action is pretty-much non-stop so the time flies. When the story ends, you have good closure but still want more. I believe How To Train Your Dragon is a great family film.
