My Dad and I used to watch this movie every year on T.V; it was always a tradition we looked forward to. It has since been passed down to my nieces and nephews who enjoy it just as much as I did.
When I saw the preview for the Wizard of Oz coming to theaters in our area, I called Dad immediately for a date night!
We got to the theater 45 minutes before the movie started, making our movie-going experience almost 3 hours! And not one minute was a waste!
From the scrolling trivia before, to the very interesting back story of the movie, and onto the timeless masterpiece in HD! It was truly a once in a life time experience! Neither of us had seen it on the big screen!
Thank you so much for a very special night!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

My husband and I took our 8 yr old grandaughter, it was not her 1st time to see it by far. But the big screen made it magical for her. She also really enjoyed the other movie goers participating through out the showing. I think it was due to normally seeing a movie and everyone being quite during it, but the clapping when the witch died and various other times when people said things outloud like(run Toto run) really seem to tickle her. My husband took a night off from work (which is very rare for him) to treat us and he wasn't sorry he did it. Thank you so much for making a great memory for our grandaughter Alexis. We were a hit with her for it!!!

I never tire of this classic! The pre-movie trivia and introduction by Jessica Landsbury was a delight and quite interesting. Viewing this classic on the big screen was a treat. The facial expressions and details were so much more vivid than when viewed on TV. My 8 and 10 year old children loved it as if it were the first time they were viewing it!

I was a little dissappointed! The picture wasn't as vivid and vibrant as I hoped for, but I suppose this was because it was an older movie?? The sound wasn't very loud either.. I brought my neice and the beginning movie extras were a distraction to the movie, she seemed to lose interest with that beginning! But still a timeless classic!! Sorry to sound negative...

I've always enjoyed seeing the 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz" on the big screen; growing up back east it would show once or twice a year in various NYC art houses. I found it odd that the Making Of featurette (which aired on TV and is with the current DVD sets) aired prior to the feature, as it was made in a fashion for those already quite familiar with the film... for the few who somehow have never seen it, there are numerous spoilers therein. But as always, seeing the perfect film never gets old on the big screen, and I'll attend again next time Fathom screens it.

This was so enjoyable to be able to see this classic on the big screen... The reason i gave 4 stars and not 5 was only because of the sound which was possibly the theatre. some of it was a bit to loud and high pitched. otherwise it was a fantastic evening, and I am so glad i was able to experience it.

The movie was as good at age 53 t was at age 6. The movie theater left a lot to be desired. The preshow as not set up properly. The voices did not match was was being shown. It took management 35 minutes to get it right and they never bothered to apologize for any inconvenience. At the end of the movie, the theater lights never came on and it was very dark trying to get out of the theater. When staff was told they just shrugged their shoulders.

Seeing the Wizard of Oz on the big screen was like the "cherry on top" after years of growing up watching it on television. It was absolutely great to see so many age groups in the audience. However, my favorite was seeing the little girl in front of me wearing the entire Dorthy outfit down to the red shoes. That was a true sign on this movie's timelessness. If the opportunity come around again to see it on the big screen- count me in!!!!

I'm soooooooooooooo glad I was finally able to experience The Wizard of Oz on the big screen!! It was great!! This is the first movie I can remember watching with my Grandma when I was 3 or 4. Whenever it's on tv, I have to watch it to feel close to her. I swear she was right next to me last night in the theater singing along with me! Every generation needs to experience The Wizard of Oz on the big screen!! Thanks AMC!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen "The Wizard of Oz" so many times and in the past 2 years alot of times because of my three granddaughters -- one 10 and twins who are 5.
We absolutely loved seeing it on the big screen last night and enjoyed learning how the actors/actresses were chosen and how the special effects came to be.
It was a special evening for Grandma and her three. It will live on forever in so many people's memories.

It was magic seeing this classic on the big screen, I took my little girl and she loved it we agreed to make this a November tradition if they continue to play it in theatres. I noticed a lot of details that I had not before. The movie made me cry just like it did when I was a kid. Judy Garland was sooo beautiful her magic and humility radiates. Too bad we lost such a great talent so tragically. I am a lifelong fan of this movie and cant wait to see it agin. absolutly amazing cinematic perfection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic!!! Sharing the movie with an audience was a terrific experience, especially with no commercial interruptions and without any scenes being deleted. The HD allowed you to see so many new things, including the burlap effect on the Scarecrow's face, details on the costumes and the sets. It was a delight for audience members, young and old alike.

I always wanted to see this on the big screen and now that I finally have I can say I certainly wasn't disappointed.
Looking like it was shot yesterday and sounding as good as any current film certainly added to my enjoyment of this wonderful movie.
OK, OK, so some of the production numbers are a little old fashion, but hey, this is an MGM musical from 1939. I really didn't mind and non of the kids around me were objecting.
At the end of the film there was enthusiastic applause from the audience. Can't really remember the last time I heard that in a movie theater.
If you get the opportunity, GO see it. It's still a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours.

Having the opportunity to see these wonderful old classics on the big screen is great. I thoroughly enjoyed the preview before the movie began, too. The "how this movie happened" and past interviews from some of its actors was a good lead into the movie. I've seen this movie more than 20 times, but noticed details and even heard lines that I hadn't caught before. That was something I hadn't expected.
It was also a spectacular way to celebrate my baby sister's 49th Birthday! Watching one classic in the presence of another...

I'm so used to old prints and a well-worn VHS tape...this version popped off the screen. The sound was perfect, the colors were vivid, and I think things were hand-retouched (thank you modern technology!) because it used to be that you could see the edges of the hand-painted backdrops...but whenever I thought to look I didn't notice them.

To see this timeless classic on the big screen was wonderful. You should do this more often with other classic movies like "singing in the rain" and movie musicals! Advertise it better - there was not a huge turnout and in talking with people they would have planned to see it if they knew about it. It really took me back in time and enjoy every moment of it. THANK YOU!

Who doesn't love this movie, it defines the term "a classic". On the big screen, it's truly amazing, beautiful, etc.
The AMC 16 Burbank, Ca, nearly ruined the evening though. I read another review here from Florida, and they seemed to have the same experience we did. First the sounds was out of sink. After that was taken care off, the light stayed on during the first 10 mins of the film, and when it was over, the light didn't come back on.
I find it odd that another theater had the same problems, I'm now rather curious.

I have loved this movie since i was three, i could recite it by the time i was 4, and i was Dorothy for Halloween about 5 years in a row. SO it's safe to say that i love this movie. But there is nothing like seeing it on the Big Screen, it had to be one of the best experiences of my life, and i am so happy i went, because it will probably never happen again in my lifetime. This movie is a classic and one that will be around forever and i am just glad that i had the chance to experience it.
