I suspect Rifftrax's first Fathom Event was an experiment; now they've gone through the feedback and learned to Stick To Riffing as opposed to "host segments." Here the wonder trio take on several Christmas themed shorts of dubious production value, stilted scripts, 1940's/1950's home-movie style; "acting," and give it/them their highest caliber commentary riffs ("I never knew David Lynch made a Christmas movie..."). Some are so bizarre sometimes commentary isn't even required; during the Max Fleischer "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer," a visual moment was so hilarious the audience laughter had the three lose "about three lines," but even they felt it was worth it for the strangeness.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I've always enjoyed seeing the 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz" on the big screen; growing up back east it would show once or twice a year in various NYC art houses. I found it odd that the Making Of featurette (which aired on TV and is with the current DVD sets) aired prior to the feature, as it was made in a fashion for those already quite familiar with the film... for the few who somehow have never seen it, there are numerous spoilers therein. But as always, seeing the perfect film never gets old on the big screen, and I'll attend again next time Fathom screens it.
The film is brilliant, but pointless to see in IMAX non-3D, as only the first two scenes are in 3D, and nothing else; the rest of Might As Well Have Spent Less to see it on a similar screen. At least, the Century City "IMAX" screen is similar, if not smaller, than many other AMC screens. My friend and I had seen the film and quite enjoyed it, and were stunned to learned we'd paid for an IMAX 3D feature that was neither. See it, but really, just see it as full 2D...
