Where do you begin to comment on this movie? The story? It keeps unfolding. Although it is a formula love story, it continually reveals itself, resolving seemingly irreconcilable obstacles in very satisfying ways. Visually, it is a treat from start to finish. The term "special effects" doesn't even start to describe what you are seeing here. You don't know what is real and what is digital. It is all believable and all looks real. Bravo James Cameron. This movie is even better than the hype.

Groundbreaking visuals mix with a refined and incredibly immersive 3D effects to elevate the emotional response of the viewer to a new level. You really feel like you're here with the characters, and the characters are fir the first time digital and simultaneously alive.
The plot itself is predictable and well-worn (think Return of the Jedi meets Ferngully, or as my friend put it "Dances with Wolves with Smurfs") but it's decent enough to not drag the movie down. And honestly, I doubt any plot that was less "safe" for mass consumption would have been greenlit considering the effects budget. The studio took on a huge risk already.

Excellent! This epic was an incredible experience from start to finish. The mixing of animation & real footage was so fluid. Excellent acting from Sigourney Weaver & new guy Sam Worthington. Stephen Lang's character Colonel Quaritch was probably most memorable in this movie as a devoted & hard but corrupted & misguided military leader. You would swear that he was an army veteran though he's never been in the military. It was a performance of the highest caliber. Zoe Saldaña did an outstanding job as Neytiri one of the main animated characters. She was Uhura in the 2009 Star Trek. Michelle Rodriguez was great as the tough but beautiful character. The 3D was amazing & the CG & effects were quite impressive. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Destroy what you don't understand or care about to fulfill your overwhelming Greed. I had no idea what this movie was about nor did I really care to see it, but my friends were really interested in going so I joined them. I'm not really into these sci-fi/fantasy things, but I have to say it was really good. Sure maybe the storyline was predictable like many people say and it was pretty long, but it was really good and I would see it again. I recommend it for sure.

Lots of great action and animation, but could have done without the "Dances with Wolves" parallel. First 3-D movie i've seen in years, and that was excellent, but took a little while to get used to. The 3 D was really the only good thing about this movie. The actual story was lame and so obviously propagandized that my spouse & I were laughing during parts of it. If Cameron wanted to make a point, he should have given the audience some things to think about instead of insulting our intelligence by being so blatant & over-stated. Making a big deal out of the Avatars having to speak English, the not-so-subtle dialog about corporate America going after whatever they want in spite of the consequences (you mean oil???), the military being composed of people who are trigger happy sadists, etc. etc. etc. The best movies are non-politicized. If it wasn't so comical to us, we would have given it zero stars.

Excellent Movie: Great graphics, great story and well executed. I usually dread going to any long runtime movie. However, in the case of Avatar, the160 miutes was over before I could even think about the time. Great experience. One of those movies that makes me think about my own existence and makes me want to go serve others more because that's part of the purpose of life and we are all connected to each other.
I applaud the thought, design, and message that went into this movie, and everyone involved in this movie that helped make it into what it is.
Of course it was not perfect and has some noticeable and predictable cliches, a bit simple at times. But those simple background items served their purpose to provide a great experience.

I think we all have a fantasy of shedding our skin and moving into a new, strong, powerful body and this movie takes us there. The "good guys/bad guys" plot is fun and there aren't any surprises, but there don't need to be any. The special effects together with the avatar idea is so compelling that it carries us in, and of course, the ending is really exciting. I saw it in 3D, but I don't think 3D is necessary at all. Enjoy it - I can't imagine not.

Really enjoyed it from beginning to end. It draws you in and keeps your interest. The 3D was not overdone. Not a lot of random things flying at you. It was well done.
My wife said she could buy another ticket and go see it again at the next showing. It left her wanting more which bodes well for a sequel.

Finally computer animation has come of age. It's so well done that one can truly "suspend disbelief". It is so staggeringly beautiful that the thin, stereotypical, exaggerated plot doesn't intrude.
A must-see film.

Simply put, this was one amazing movie that should not be missed by anyone. I originally went and saw the standard 2D version when the 3D one was sold out and was blown away by the visuals, story, and themes of the film. After that, I knew I had to go see the 3D version and went to go see it yesterday. WOW, whether you go with 2D or 3D you will love this movie but if you have the chance this movie should be seen in 3D. I've seen quite a lot of these new 3D movies now and NOTHING compares to the quality of this experience. You will want to reach out and touch things as the breathtakingly beautiful forest of Pandora truly come alive in front of your eyes. I give it my full recommendation and plan on seeing it a third time very soon!
