This movie is typically what you'd expect from James Cameron. It’s got brilliant special effects and design. However, the storyline is non-existent and there is no real plot. Even though it is set in the future the movie does nothing to show mankind in a better light. Apparently, even in the future there is no united earth government and the name of the game is still loot and plunder and corporate profits. The storyline superimposes western society’s limited understanding of tribal cultures on an alien race and makes horrible assumptions about the compatibility of human anatomy with everything alien. Essentially a 3-D futuristic cowboy versus indians movie set in space.

Great movie. Special effects sensational. Very thought provoking. Allows us to consider the downsides of over-civilization. What about the advance of our society? It over-demonizes the earthlings but I'd go again to see what I missed the first time. Fast moving. The pulling together of the animals to fight the bad guys shows the common enemy theory clearly. Lots of symbolism.

Regardless of whether or not the theme appeals to you, the visual detail in this movie is not to be missed. A masterpiece of the visual arts, James Cameron clearly accepted nothing short of perfection from his computer graphics crew. Even on close-up shots of the Nabi faces or when scrutinizing the background for flaws, everything looked completely real.
You can't miss this movie, even if just to marvel at the technical genius, though the entire world of Pandora is extremely well-imagined. Seeing this movie in RealD or IMAX 3D will be akin to looking back on seeing Star Wars when it first came out.

I don't go to the theater much, but I will go if I feel I'm going to get a quality cinematic experience with graphics/effects, etc. Avatar was no disappointment. The visuals are breathtaking. Anyone with a soul will enjoy this movie. The Na'vi people are beautiful and should be emulated by society. They are passionate, naieve, inherently good, spiritual, simplistic and most importantly, fiercely loyal. Some people are saying there's an environmentalist push with the movie, but I think it's just a matter of right and wrong, good vs. evil. What an absolutely wonderful experience. Go see it. You won't be disappointed no matter what you're looking for with this movie. It has something for everyone.

This movie will be the defining one of the next decade. Much like Star Wars was, it is new, exciting and ready made for total immersion into our pop culture. The movie kept my attention the whole time and even though it is long I did not notice that at all. The special effects are magnificent and the characters 3 dimensional ( no pun intended). The story is good and the acting is good but both take second place to visuals. I see awards on the horizon for this film although probably not for the acting.

This was the best overall movie experience I have ever had. I went in without the anticipation I had for Star wars or Lord of the Rings and came out stunned. Truly amazing! My husband, a self identified computer geek and animation ex-officio, is always very critical of this genre. He usually points out flaws we mire mortals don't notice. When we walked out of the theater, he said I don't have a single criticism. Well I was floored. I would see it again. I probably won't though, I was-and remain-put off by the cost of the movie. We paid $25 for 2 tickets online. That's a steep price at any time, but especially during these difficult financial times. Most families of 4 would really have to stretch to afford a night out that included seeing this movie. Many would opt not to. And what a shame because it would be an absolute treat! For this reason, I must give the movie a 4 star rating and not 5.

I had low expectations for this movie, but in the end it was really action packed and exciting. Good story line.
