The special effects were outstanding. The story was okay but a little political. It would be nice if the Hollywood elite would keep their opinions to themselves on those issues and just entertain us. Tired of the military bashing too. Always putting them in a bad light.

Cameron just doesn't let you down. My husband said this is the first movie he's wants (& will) go see again in the theater. We saw it in Real 3D which made us feel like we were in that world. And we missed being in that world as we drove home.
Avatar is a good sci-fi fantasy and the effects bring it to life. I hope Cameron does do the "possible sequels if its successful" (I would say it's successful). I would love to learn more about that world - people and "Mother".

Avatar was one of the best movies I've seen in many years .... the 3D was very good, and the special effects were outstanding. For a longer movie, we didn't even realize that the time went by to fast. I'd definitely recommend it.

Saw it in 3-D. Stunning effects. Once over the initial amazement, it wore out. Left the theater before the movie was over. 3-D lenses can give you a headache. I found it boring, too violent despite the pacifist message.

A beautiful..spiritual experience and at the same time the creativity and genius in making this film is nothing less than Brilliant!! I had no intention of seeing this movie after seeing the trailer for it..it seemed to typical sci-fi for me. My son saw it ...came home and told me that I..HAD..to see it!! Just the way he said that I..would LOVE it..and that it is much more than what you see in the commercial...It will touch your HEART!! He was right...I fell in love with the place(planet).. the beauty of it and the Beings (their inner beauty). Can't wait to see it again!

AVATAR is a great film, it dazzles with color, special affects and of course 3-D. Though the story line is a tired and true formula, what makes it fresh and current is the green slant. I went to see this film two times, once on the Imax screen and then on the conventional screen to see if there was a 3-D difference. I noticed little difference. The violence and action was plentifull and was not what I would call gratuitous but rather in keeping with the story formula. For a film with a run time of 2 hours and 40 minutes, it felt more like 1 hour and 20 minutes. This is a must see film for all and should be seen on the large screen!

Mr. Cameron, what a wonderful and beautiful film you have share with us.
The colors, the dialog, the different political and religious messages (without trying hard) have made this movie one of my all time favorites. I will definitely watch it again. I laughed and cried on the scenes I found the most compelling. I left the movie theater feeling absolutely wonderful.

This movie contains at least 5 different 'Man vs. ' conflicts. He is in conflict with: Man, Himself, Nature, the Supernatural, and Fate. It can be difficult to see all of this conflict with all of the eye-candy, but it is there. Story line is interesting, but many of the cliche's are easily spotted.

Beautiful imagery and special effects contribute to a unique movie experience. Worth seeing the movie for its beauty alone. The movie is, however, a thinly masked indictment of American domestic policy (re: Indians) and foreign policy (Iraq and oil). Also, the "bad guy" is of course a greedy American corporation in search of a rare mineral "no-obtainium". The simple-minded and one-sided characterization of the bad guy made the movie's politics laughable, but any intelligent viewer can see through this farce.

This average story told in a unique way makes justified headlines. Too bad the 3D wasn't more fully utilized. Well worth the experience, plenty of fun, action and newness. I highly recommend you see Avatar in 3D at the theater. The visual effects are spectacular. Be warned, although the story is entertaining enough, the plot is rather predictable, the themes are old hat, and the characters (although mostly well-acted) are rather one-dimensional. So, it is not really worth renting on DVD or even seeing in regular theater (it is playing as “just a regular movie” in some theaters, ie., not in 3D). However, it is worth the price of admission for the 3D effects on the big screen. This was better than the 3D that I remember from the 1970s, and the imagery of the Pandora planet wouldn’t be captured nearly as effectively without it.

The graphics/effects are worth the price of admission. It's a reasonable story, not great, it's been done...but it was definitely a cool experience. The 3D glasses hurt my head a bit and that's due to the length of the movie...it's at least 30-40 minutes too long.

I went into the theater sceptical that it would live up to all of the hype, but very soon into the movie I realized it was all true. The film visually is absolutely amazing, and to top it off, I really liked the story. I have to admit i got a little teary eyed...

This movie is awesome. Simple enough.
The core story is classic, and one that we can all relate to on a moral level. Naturally the special effects are so detailed and breathe-taking, there are moments you tend to forget you're watching CG!
Overall, the movie is a 4 Thumbs Up. I'll most likely see it one more time before it leaves theatres, which will make my 5th time seeing it.
My mother is on her 6th. lol
