Simply put, Avatar lives up to all of its hype. It seems to be receiving a lot of criticism for the Na'vi's (the blue humanoid race) appearance. Honestly though, it's a lot less awkward watching naked blue aliens than the naked humans, (Native Americans), they so clearly represent. It creates a comfortable distance while still being real enough to immerse the audience. Concerning the plot, I found little to criticize. It is something we see continually in history as well as modern times: man exploiting nature, not respecting the rights of the land's native inhabitants, and demonstrating his cruellest attributes. The movie's greatest strength is in the graphics. If you've seen a trailer, you'll know what I mean.

This is a great movie even aside from the special effects which are mind-blowing. The 3-D version is an absolute treat. The storyline is fascinating, the world they have created is an artistic masterpiece and the movie is fast paced. It has thrill, romance, tragedy and hints of comedy. A film for all ages.

I enjoyed every minute of it. Seeing it in 3D is just mind blowing,i felt like i was part of the movie itself,not that i look like one of the navi's.The fight scenes are not over the top,just right for the movie.A nice simple story line will surely touch anyone and makes you think what really is important in this world.I think this movie is the best i have seen so far.Highly recommended, it's worth the 32 dollars my husband and i paid for.I would love to see it again.

Avatar is a fairly believable story with enough action and special effects (game changing use of technology) to satisfy most gamers while nicely weaving threads of love, romance, and noble character throughout. The asterisk to me was the unfortunate need of the creators to also weave obvious negative political and religious themes throughout…rhetorically I would ask why the compulsion to do this? Net net, most people of the earth will enjoy this movie, especially if they can look beyond the not so subtle messages. Worth your money to see once…maybe twice for technology sake.

I believe the movie more than lived up to its hype. The 3D was not contrived with objects leaping out, but more designed to immearse the viewer in the Pandora world. Contrary to some of the crtitics, the storyline was fresh and had a message. The visual experience is mindblowing, and I will see it again.

While the 3D experience still has a few kinks to iron out, Avatar stood on its own as a film.
Despite the many technical challenges involved in acting this movie you don't feel like anyone is trying too hard. You are able to feel the world that all of the characters inhabit. Unlike Transformers, which is also heavy in CG all shots and speedy movement are clear and sharp in Avatar. Once your eyes adjust, you can forget you are watching a movie which, in my opinion, is the best thing about watching movies in the first place. After all of the texture and depth of the world of Avatar wash over you the film's story promotes a consciousness and touches on themes of awareness of nature, ignorance of nature and a resulting conflict.

You only need to watch about 30 minutes of this nearly 3 hour movie to know exactly where the story is going but thankfully the visual affects let you get lost in the fictional world anyway. The 3D is sometimes blurry and overwhelming but if you can get past some of the very crowded action scenes the forest is really amazing. The love story is predictable, but let's face it, you knew it would be when you saw Cameron's name on it and he makes up for lack of originality with over the top effects. Well worth the time and the money, but I'm happy to wait for video to see it again.

Overall I enjoyed the movie. The storyline was decent and the effects were phenomenal.
However, I was taken aback by the gratuitous profanity. It really was unnecessary. That type of language (s--t and b--ch) should automatically warrant an R rating.
The violence wasn't over the top and was appropriate for the story.

Stunning visual effects, very well done, but in the end a disapointment. I was enjoying this movie, but with more and more heavy handedness, should the audience miss the more subtle hints, it tries to reflect our times. (e.g. the word terror is used by the military villain, as in 'War On-' when whipping up the trroops) I had not read reviews prior, but after recognizing such attempts, I now see others have also. I hate movies that insidiously try to push their agenda in a pretty package. Unfortunately, while this anti-US propaganda didn't work with me, to be effective, propaganda only has to fool enough viewers. Just ask Hitler. (BTW- see Dances with Wolves-i.e., also how bad Americans try to impose their culture on peaceful savages.)

It was visually spectacular and entertaining.
However, it was a typical Hollywood, liberal-agenda-driven story: anti-corporation; anti-military; anti-mankind; anti-technology; save-the-planet-because-mother-nature-is-mystical and all living things are connected; fairy-tale ending.
I usually have no problem waiting for movies to be released on DVD, but the 3D made this movie entertaining. I recommend seeing it in the theater if you don't mind putting up with a weak story. It is purely eye-candy.

Would not recommend taking younger than 12 year olds .... too boring for them. Story takes time to develope. i had younger next to me and he was constantly playing with an electronic device that had bright screen. Very annoying.

The special effects are worth the price of the ticket. But the story could have been so much better. I enjoyed the first hour, but the editing was shabby. I lost interest during the last 40 minutes. And there were some incredibly cheesy parts that made me feel like I was watching a bad Disney film.

Well worth the money. Probably the best movie I have seen in 20 years. The visuals are incredible. The storyline a good one though a bit predictable. The language supports the PG13 rating as does the war scenes. I would say most middle school 7th graders and above are old enough to see this film. But hey leave the kids home and take your sweetie.

Firstly, this is the best movie I've seen in a long time!!
I've seen this movie a couple of times now, the first time on a big screen, the second in 3D.
It wasn't worth the additional fee to watch in 3d.
The movie is FANTASTIC, don't get me wrong and I loved watching it again. I just don't think the few ferns you get in your face make for a cool 3d experience. there are many other better 3d films

The movie just blew me away. Can't believe that a lot of it was CG. I can't wait for the dvd to come out showing how they made this movie. I've seen it twice already. Once on a regular screen and once in 3D. The 3D was great. It was so real. Great storyline also.
