I really enjoyed this movie. My bf was even skeptical about seeing it and he still ended up loving it. We saw it in 3D which was great except they need to make more comfortable 3D glasses. I will definitely own this movie when it comes to dvd.

I have no words to explain the technology used to create this film except maybe "magic!" As far as the story line is concerned, we have all seen it a hundred times before, however, never told in such a creative and imaginative way and never so poignant. The communion between the planet and its inhabitants is oh so relevant. The melodramatics of greed, machismo, ignorance, lack of empathy, disrespect for the environment, and intolerance of diversity portrayed in the military and corporate caricatures is obvious but effective. The antipode of the mesmerizing spirituality of organic delights and the gargantuan fearsome metal machinery surely sends a message. I imagine this movie will be very unpopular with the political and religious right!

I was slightly skeptical about this film prior to viewing it, expecting a special effects driven film that lacked a serious plot and serious character development. Doubting James Cameron was undoubtedly flawed judgment on my part. This film has everything a film needs. It tackles serious issues we face today by using a futuristic voyage to an imaginative planet. I would recommend this movie to anyone, film critics, movie fans, and those who rarely watch them. This is a movie that you have to see on a big screen and in 3D. The special effects are great, but the story is somewhat juvenile. 'Avatar' is filled with good guys and bad guys, but no shades of grey. The plot reminds me of the plots of the films that I used to see at kiddie matinees.

I went to see Avatar yesterday, and I thought it was truly one of the most incredible movies I've seen in a really long time. This is one of those rare situations where the story AND the special effects worked very well together. The 3D made things pop out even more than before, and it was worth the more expensive movie ticket.
The only thing is...be careful if you have a sensitive stomach, especially following a meal. Some of the high height 3D scenes got to me.

One of the best movies we have ever seen! Loved the visual effects the 3-D provided. The use of colors enhanced the wow factor of the movie. It offers a wide variation of plot lines : action, drama and love story all combined. The only complaint we had was the theatre was way too hot.

Avatar's special effects were simply mind-blowing. The 3D effects were so real I had to keep looking to see if what I was seeing was on-screen or physically in my space. The story was uplifting, fast paced and very entertaining. Can't wait to see the next installment. The length of the movie didn't matter because the action and story line made if feel like two hours max.

I am finishing a Bachelors in Administrative Leadership with a heavy concentration on ecology. I start my Masters next fall in sustainable/renewable energy and waste management...so this movie was right up my alley.
Not only was it beautiful, imaginative and the technology right on including the 3D. The message that it sends is very strong and much needed. Humans are a very parasitic species that needs to learn to be more altruistic in nature. The idea of the symbiosis between all the organisms in Pandora is fantastic and possibly true even in our own world. We just don;t have the pony tails. :)
I will recommend this movie to every one that I know. It is a must see. Another great movie from James Cameron!

Cameron has taken CGI to a new level. We now see the Pandora in the flesh. The RealD is as good as the IMAX 3D. Cameron’s work to create the Na'vi et al for character depth is excellent. The brutish military mind is a little overdone, but effective. Was that a glimmer of conscience I saw in Big Corporate's eyes over the greed for the "cheddar"? It only took seeing the Na’vi in flight with their home in flames. The greed carried through well. We've heard this message before, but never so eloquently viewed. The Sky People bring their destructive ways to the established eco/political systems. Guests must first adapt and then knowledge can be shared not forced nor resources usurped. It is great to see the natives triumph! When will we learn?

I thought the movie was outstanding! Amazing 3D. I liked the story line, simple life versus greed well that was my take on the movie. I can see why the religious groups oppose this movie. It strikes a chord with a society that will stop at nothing to get that which we want. Don't see it? Ask the native Americans, starting with the South Americans ravaged by Europeans, think Cortez and Aztec gold. Unfortunately, people will not look kindly towards a movie that exposes us for what we really are, and that is a predating species that does not try to achieve homeostasis with our environment, a take/take relationship with our mother Earth. I think the movie was a little far-fetched in one respect, once the Na'vi "saw" us for what we were, I would have expected a clean expullsion from their planet, even if it meant murder.

Avatar has beautiful landscapes, great battle scenes and a plot line full of Liberal cliches. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that, as long as one is aware of where the people who made the movie are coming from politically. In spite of such cliches, the movie is not formulaic in the sense that in this sci-fi story it is humans who are the technologically advanced species who invidae an alien world and it is humans who consider the local inhabitants to be somehow inferoir and unworthy of respect. The concept of the avatar is intriguing. If something like this could be developed in real life, it would have many appllications in many fields including of course, space exploration.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Simply wonderful. Great acting, story, direction, and production. Make sure you see this in a theater to experience the full scale of this production and the 3D special effects that are just plain mind-blowing and make this movie so special. I can't wait to be able to see 3D on in-home screens!

The picture and special effects are outstanding. Must see in 3D! The story line was very simple and amazingly close to the Walt Disney animated picture "Pocahontas" telling the arrival of the colons in the Americas, which was just perfect for my 6 years old girl who could relate to some known reference. Beside a different time and place, the analogy with the Disney picture is total: exact same characters (outsider great heart hero reporting to the villain, trusted by the daughter of the tribe's chief but not by the brother), same values (live in communion with mother nature and ancestors, respecting and understanding people that are different, not being driven by greed).
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Some Christian groups oppose this movie - why? Thou shalt not covet, steal, murder; Avatar is great PR for these lessons. Avatar also shows that low-tech living can be deeply satisfying - it's ironic that massive amounts of technology brought us this message with such glowing fervor. Can we hear it now? … BTW: For years we've depicted monster aliens who come from outer space to kill humans & ravage the earth. Guess what? *The humans are the aliens.* … I think the natives in this film were depicted with tails to remind us that humans in fact are animals. We cannot divorce ourselves from the need to eat and breathe. Pollute the air: that's what you’ll breathe. Soak food with toxic pesticides: that's what you'll eat. “I see you.” Can we?

This movie was everything I heard about and more. You cannot tell there is any animation, For the first time in my movie viewing life, I actually felt like my childhood imagination came back to life. The plot was great, the acting was Oscar worthy, and the experience was out of this world!! The movie is almost 3 hours long and there was not one boring moment. This movie has opened the door to more possibilities in movies and I think this is to the 21st Century as E.T. was to the 20th. James Cameron is a genius and I think it teaches directors that rushing a movie just to please your producers are a mistake. It took 4 1/2 years to produce this film, but the result was worth so much more.
