The 3D experience was great. Digital 3D is a vast improvement over the old polaroid dual projector process which gave the audience a headache when they went out of sync. The story has been done over and over so was quite predictible. Action scenes sometimes were really confusing as to what you were seeing because the action moved so fast and created a blur. Overall it was a fun ride but should have been edited down by about 30 minutes.

As a cultural experience, this movie is a "must." It is visually lush, well acted, and extremely well put together. The story is, ho hum, a little moralistic for my taste, but it's nice to see something that champions a higher cause, while still being suitable and entertaining for most people of most ages. The 3-d effect was not entirely positive for me: I found the reduction in focus distracting, and left the theater with a mild case of motion sickness!

Regarding the technical achievements of this film, Avatar more than exceeded my expectations. It was absolutely beautiful! I didn't think the story was anything original, but that did not detract from my enjoyment of this movie.

I have many friends who have seen this film and everyone agrees the graphics and media technology is unbelievable. That is true- fantastic. But I also found the story line to be fully engrossing and the underlying messages of global destruction (in our case for oil) and a total disregard for indigenous people and complete rip off of their land and squashing of their culture (native americans) to be evident without over shadowing the film. And even though the film was nearly 3 hours long the time seemed to slip by and the movie over before I knew it. I'm a 50 something and I loved the film.

Nothing bad about this movie. Not only is this the best movie, it is simply the best CGI/3D movie ever made. It has a good story line & good characters. Between the special effects & the 3D, it is unliveable astounding to see. You really forget your watching a mostly CGI/3D movie, the visual color & effects are that real. The real actors acutally look like they are part of the CGI, you can't tell they are in a virutal world.

The film was enjoyable overall. It's beautifully shot, but the 3D is completely unnecessary. It added nothing to the experience and made our eyes tired by the end. The story is pretty predictable and REALLY preachy. We get it. The Native Americans got screwed and we Americans suck...thanks for the update. Overall, not the "event" movie that the hype has made it out to be, but a fun and beautifully CGI'd film.

My 12 year old daughter and I loved it! Although the story line was totally predictable, and the "bad guy" was more like a bad guy in a marvel comic, it was still really good. The beauty and special effects make it all worth it. Dont wait for DVD on this one.

The only thing I had heard about this movie was that it had great special effects, but the plot was like a cross between Ferngully and Pocahontis. That may be somewhat, but it makes you think about the environment and war. I loved it. Beautiful to watch and it was so engrossing you never noticed the long run time. Great ending, that left everyone in the theater speechless.

Avatar was a visual spectacle with a profound message for us all. I could see a loose representation of Bill Peet's "The Wump World" in this movie. The 3-D effect made it all the more real. Superb acting but the special effects made it outstanding. It was a long movie, but didn't feel long at all.

A must see. Don't wait for the DVD unless you have over 60" screen and 3D capabilities. Would have been 5 stars if not for the horrible music track. Heavy handed and sounded like a remake of Titanic music. James Horner needs a new melody. Beautiful virtual sets. Excellent film.

Great visual effects. The movie theater was sold out. Schools were closed for MLK Day so the theater was filled with adults and children. Once the movie started you never heard a peep out of the children, they were so engrossed by the movie and effects just like I was!

I've heard this called "Dances with Wolves" with aliens instead of Native Americans. There are a lot of similarities between the two movies; however, there a enough differences to make it interesting.
I really enjoyed being emersed into a different world. I also enjoyed the hunting and training. The 3D was cool, it took a little while to get adjusted to it. I'm not sure it was completely necessary.

I thought the story was overly simplistic and some of the 3D effects made me nauseous, although the detail was stunning. The movie looked great and sounded good, but is not worthy of the hype.
