Saw this last night. The animation is so well done it seems real. With the 3D effect, you feel like you are right in the action. A good story line, predictable at times but kept me on the edge of my seat through the action. Excellent acting! Well worth going to see but don't take little children, it's too violent for them.

Regular movie watchers will find this movie is Dances With Wolves on another planet. The story line is a great one, and the animation is believable! You almost feel like it is a real world. I would especially recommend the 3D. It is not the red/blue of days gone, but a new technique that is more precise. I highly recommend.

The special effects in this movie were truly amazing, but the plotline was thin, predictable, and completely unmemorable. The characters were mostly 1-dimensional without a lot of development. Still, I do recommend that you see it just for the visual effects, which were truly seemless in creating this beautiful exotic new world, and it's definitely something you want to see on the big screen; the small screen will not do it justice. Also, make sure you buy your tickets ahead of time, the theaters are still selling out.
Bottom line: A+ for special effects, C- for plot.

Avatar was a feast for the eyes. The Cinematography was just amazing. The 3-D was fun and not overwhelming. I appreciated that I never felt like someone was going to punch me in the face. But the sensation of being in another world was absolutely delightful. The story was enchanting and I loved the characters. I'm going to see it again!

This movie rocked me to the core. It's visually amazing, and much like Jurassic Park there are times (much of the movie) where the entire screen is filled with computer generated imagery. Unlike Jurassic Park the characters and scenery are so alive and dazzling and for so much of the play time that your eyes never get a moment's break from being in awe. No visual element ever feels static.
Aside from this accomplishment, the story itself churns your emotions from start to finish, and the dialogue and flow are both elegant and clever. I think this movie is a must see for 2009-2010.
You can leave the 3D out of the equation. It doesn't add anything to the movie the way that Beowulf did for me. The 3D felt more like that of G-Force.

Avatar is by far the best movie in years in so many many ways! The actors, storyline, cinematography, wow--- it's all very very awesome. The movie runs closeto 3 hrs but you will not notice that as you become quickly involved in the storyline which takes twists and turns and deliver both happy and sad moments. Great, great, great movie!

Blue people, 3-D, James Cameron and a 300 Mil budget.......makes a great film. As expected the animation was stellar (WETA Workshop can seem to do no wrong). The layering in every seen was amazing giving the feeling you were standing/sitting on the edge of every scene. The details that went into this paid off big time. If you are a fan of this type of animation you will be pleased. The story was good, not great but the combination of the good story with the mind blowing effects make this a must see film.

Loved the effects and I have dozens of questions as to how they were acheived. I thought the battle scenes were drawn out and overdone.
The forest with lights and glowing moving natural objects was enchanting, the creatures were too realistic.
With fewer shorter battle scenes I would give it five stars.

This was such an awesome movie! The special effects and 3D was unbelievable, with a great storyline. I recommend everyone to see this movie,with one exception, it is a long movie, kids under 5, would probably be difficult for them to follow the story and sit through the 3 hours. This is well worth the price to see on the big screen. However, the 3D glasses are problematic if you already wear glasses. It is especially awkward if you have any type of bifocal. There were times when the picture was actually sharper without the 3D glasses. And the plot - was Cameron watching Fern Gully when "writing" this "original" screenplay? Still a gorgeous film!

Makes Starwars look like a Mickey Mouse cartoon from the 1930's. Magnificent visually and very imaginative. A bit too long with a predictible ending but the beautiful graphics and action override the flaws.
