The movie was amazing!!! I only gave it 4 stars because I saw it in digital 3D and was not at all impressed with it. There were times while watching the movie that my braid actually hurt because it couldn't tell what it was supposed to be focusing on. Then i learned if I close one eye during those moments it was easy to see. So overall I think they need to either do more beta testing on digital 3D or stop using it.

I have mixed feelings about Cameron's work (loved the first Terminator and The Abyss; hated Titanic and didn't care for Aliens) yet I went in expecting a lot because of all the buzz. I was not disappointed. Far from it. The world created by Cameron is full, rich and brilliantly conceived. The story follows a classic formula and the metaphors to our current state of affairs cannot be missed, but above all, Avatar represents what the movies do best: transport us to another world (this time literally) and allow us to experience life from another's eyes, heart and soul for a couple of hours. Visually breathtaking, with a simple, yet effective script and wonderfully nuanced characters.

an exciting movie with exceptional cgi. While the story line was a little hard to believe - the world James Cameron created was amazing to watch and the story moved well. This is definitely a movie I will see again.

Absolutely amazing effects - you've never seen such subtle emotions displayed on the faces of CGI characters. The world of Pandora is mesmerizing. The story is so-so. It is essentially Dances with Wolves in space, mixed with other themes you've seen a million times. Instead of evil white man v. noble savage in tune with Mother Earth with a single soldier getting won over, we have evil mankind v. noble alien savage in tune with Mother Pandora with a soldier and scientists getting won over. Still, its easy to overlook the inherent self-loathing and enjoy the movie. I highly recommend seeing this in 3D or Imax - don't wait for Netflix or you will be missing the very point of the Avatar experience.

REALLY good movie with a really believable world and characters that pulls you in and makes you feel that it is all real.
The kind of movie that you want to go back and see again and get the DVD for when it comes out, which is what makes a movie a success.

Can't believe people are still using wheelchair (have to get approval to get a pair of legs?) when the technology has been so advanced.
The 3D effect was good, my wife got dizzy, I didn't.
A usual Hollywood story, no matter what, the main character has to fight the bad guy in the end.
I don't understand why Jake would kill so many humans without hesitate while he is supposed to be a good guy (I know the aliens deserve their place to live, but do the human soldiers deserve to die?).
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I went into this movie with fairly low expectations, thinking it would just be a visual spectacle, but was thoroughly surprised by how good it was. Not only is it a visual feast, but you actually become emotionally connected to the characters and story. The general theme is fairly commonplace and the story is predictable, but neither really detracted from my enjoyment of the film. I think the biggest drawback was how heavy-handed they were with the film's commentary and how heavily skewed the perspective was to one side.

Avatar 3D entertained and delivered! We took the whole family, even the young ones, and everyone yelled "Awesome!!" at the end of it. The neon magical effects and animation were phenomenal and the story line so deep and gripping that we were on the edge of our seats. The swearing was hardly noticeable at all so no worries with the little kids. If they have seen the battles in the Transformer movies they are ready for this movie. Avoid the previews if you have little kids but you would have trouble finding good seats for this blockbuster. You will fall in love with Jake Sully and come to love his avatar. Get ready for entertainment you have not seen in a while! James Cameron delivered!

A very entertaining movie… the expected ‘good guy’ defeats the ‘bad guy’, and gets the girl… but it was done well. For me the technical aspects of the movie were striking… the quality of 3D has come a long way since 1922 and this movie may well regenerate the audience interest in this method. The striking computer generated scenes coupled with the 3D technology made for a delightful ‘escape’ into another world. Recommend you see this and experience this yourself.

I was not very interested in seeing this film but my husband has been talking about it for over a year and how Cameron was "taking it to the next level". I went not realizing it was in 3D until at the theater & was not happy about having to sit through an almost 3-hour movie and wear stupid glasses for a no-plot CGI fest. BOY, WAS I WRONG!! There was a plot & the symmetry between live-action & CG was FLAWLESS! Best visual effects I ever saw-gives 3D new life. Cameron apparently invented the new 3D camera technology used. It has and will change movie-making (REAL MOVIE-MAKING) forever. You must see this film in 3D and if available, IMAX, as well. FIVE STARS!!!!

Probably award winning CG, but a B movie plot and dialog that you might expect to see on the Scifi channel, dialog is unbearable and offensive at times. Sig Weaver's character was terrible, nothing like Alien. The battle scene at the end was the best part of the movie. So we are to believe that all the 10ft blue people living in this wild tropical setting are runway model perfect? Also wouldn’t have expected an animal like creature with a tail to be wearing a thong either, or breast covering for that matter, hasn’t Cameron watched NatGeo? There was a blatant ripoff of Eragon(winged flying thing that gets chosen for life).Cameron should have deleted the bad language and made it a Disney movie. All in all, 2 hours 40 minutes and $10 wasted.

While quite entertaining and revolutionary in its way, Avatar kept me thinking about the hit-and-loot US foreign policies, especially that of Iraq.
No wonder the USA is so unpopular in the world. The Colonel is a typical US politician, especially reminding of Cheney: just as aggressive and cynical.
Everything else is simply a fairy tale with predictable outcomes.
All-in-all it is good entertaining with some political underpinning..

The plot of Avatar is not revolutionary. There are clearly ties to several periods in American History and the periods of English/French/Spanish Colonialization. That said, the story is told wonderfully. The special effects are truly outstanding. At first I found the 3D to a bit gimmicky, but allow yourself time to adjust. I knew they had me when I found myself swatting a fly that I thought was in the theater. It wasn't. I also had to periodically stop and remind myself that what I was seeing was probably computer generated. In most movies that thought is immediate, but here I was lost in the movie itself. Which is truly an achievement.

This is what going to the movies is all about. Transporting you to another world that you can believe in. Not since Bladerunner has a movie had this much depth and caring for the world it is set in.Every director who sees this movie will throw their arms up and say... now i have to start over. Thank You James Cameron for putting the real magic back in movies.I have been waiting for this since the mediocre Star Wars Prequel fiasco. This one movie actually makes up for all 3 of them. I was very reluctant to see the film in 3D since the 3D effect up until now generally resulted in distracting me from the film story line. Not so with this film!! The 3D effect was only used when it seemed appropriate and did not distract me from the storyline. Finally, a director that "Got it right". As for the story, loved it. As for the acting, very well done by all. As for the special effects. STUNNING. Incredible creation of such a reality CG. This movie sets a new standard for future films using special effects.

From the opening scene to the final credits, Avatar in 3D is a visual treat. James Cameron has directed another brilliant film. He and his team created Pandora's world so perfectly. Everything explodes of the screen with color and sound. The 3D effects never get in the way and enhance a remarkable work. I'll go see it again in IMAX!
