My husband had to drag me to see this movie, trying to convince me I would like it. Not convinced, I went anyway. So glad he made me see it. AMAZING! Production is amazing (well worth the millions and millions they spent on it) and the story was good. It was the perfect mix of comedy, chick flick, action, suspense....filled with heroes and villians. It's a perfect combination of guy/girl movie. I would go see it again (if it were cheaper), Am definately buying it on Blu-Ray when it comes out! Good for people of all ages. Everyone from the elderly to young children were there to see it, and many left the theatre raving about the movie!

It totally lived up to the hype. A combination Star Wars meets Dances with Wolves, this movie delivers in both the visual effects and a decent story line about coming to understand people. For the more sensitive kids the first animal fight scene is pretty scary, but the rest of the movie is more exciting than scary. By the way the 3D is well done and worth the slight bump in price.

Just let me emphasize that the humans are the aliens in Navi's world! They are the ones destroying the natural habitat and sacred grounds of the Navis... the Navis just defended themselves!!!
And if there are the bad guys in the story... it is the humans!!! In reality, it's also happening on Earth when humans destroy the environment for the so-called "development"!!!

"Avatar" wasn't a sci-fi movie so much as a 'social statement': "greedy-arrogant-corporate-materialists' try to displace 'primitive-hunter/gatherer-living in harmony with nature' types so as to mine their turf for a profitable mineral. Jame Cameron has done a excellent job of story telling. The 3-d rendition are superb. None of the usual pop-outs that you constantly see with other 3-d movies. You actually feel/see like Jake when you are in the forest. The insects flying about and the seeds of the Tree of Life.
The story is the usual boy meets girl, but I was really cultivated by the emotional range of cgi characters. What an excellent break through film of this genre.
This is my second viewing I might just go and view again in I-MAX!

I watched the movie expecting bad acting, cheesy dialogue, a reused script (think Dances with Wolves), but with visuals that make up for the former. It turns out that the dialogue was cheesy and the script was predictable and borrowed, but the acting was genuine (the aud. can become emotionally connected not only to the main characters but to the entire foreign world of Pandora) and yes, the visuals did not disappoint. Cameron's success: he spent budget well on state-of-the-art tech. to portray Pandora and its natives in a matter which would emerge the aud. Many times I forgot I was watching CGI (the long runtime also helped). Avatar is a fun, traditional blockbuster that should be seen in 3D with friends and a plethora of snacks.

This was phenomenal. The 3D experience is worth it, so splurge on this movie. As others have noted there was something lacking in the story itself...yes it's an epic battle, but it's the same tale. WOW, that is the only word to sum up the incredible cinematography of this movie. I saw it in both 3D and regular . With Avatar, the 3D adds richness and texture to the world of Pandora, it does not make things jump out as with other 3D movies, so if money is an issue, then see it in non 3D and take yourself on a glorious adventure. Great feel good movie and great to take children too, as you won't have to worry about explaining things. I knew (guessed) the outcome, but still enjoyed wonderful special affects and a few surprises. I will see this one again and I will buy the video.

This was an amazingly beautiful movie with an engaging story line. The two and a half hours went by so fast. A good mix between sci fi and fantasy. James Cameron's decision to wait for the technology to make CG humanoids was a very smart move. You feel as if these creatures actually exist and you can't help but get emotionally involved when their way of life becomes threatened. I can't say enough about this movie.

Technology has come a long way since the 80's. I will now see as many 3D movies as possible. This movie moved me spiritually. In fact, like JD on Scrubs I'm a bit of a sensi and I had to go hide in the bathroom after the movie and weep for joy. The 3D is immersive, the alien lifeforms move with athletic grace, and the characters are classic, archetypal, and enjoyable. Sigorney Weaver kicks a**. The whole movie is a revelation.

I was most interested in the detail of art work that made up the background of each scene. The story was flat. Mean white guys, caring sympathetic aliens/lovers. Oh, and there was the heavy-handed Guian-love symbious good--strip mining bad plotline. It was hard to empathize with even the three avatar drivers. What Marine doesn't have an "egg-head" brother, but not even a tear? Come on! So yeah, "amazing technology" "spectacular effects"--just once Cameron give us characters we can appreciate.

WOW! What a visual experience! 3D or not, this movie had tremendous special effects! The characters and scenery were enchanting. This movie was full of messages and we got them loud and clear! The first and foremost respect other cultures and accept that they live and worship differently. Second, don't take what isn't yours! Third, we 'Earthlings' should live and work peacefully together for the sake of ourselves and our earth! We'll see this movie again!
