I was most interested in the detail of art work that made up the background of each scene. The story was flat. Mean white guys, caring sympathetic aliens/lovers. Oh, and there was the heavy-handed Guian-love symbious good--strip mining bad plotline. It was hard to empathize with even the three avatar drivers. What Marine doesn't have an "egg-head" brother, but not even a tear? Come on! So yeah, "amazing technology" "spectacular effects"--just once Cameron give us characters we can appreciate.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
