I rarely ever go to 3d movies, but after reading other reviews I decided to try it. It was a pretty cool experience but it did kind of bother my eyes after about 2 hours of this 2 hour and 45 min movie. The story is pretty good and I'm glad I went but not sure it lives up to all the hype.

Saw the previews and thought for sure that it was going to be a flop. Am wondering if they filmed the actors playing the Avatar and then superimposed the animation over them, because they just got the mannerisms of the actors down pat. Made it believable. I always cringe at a long running time, this was two hours and fourty minutes long, but the movie was so entertaining that I didn't notice how much time was going by. Was never once tempted to fall to sleep. Very action-packed.

On the way to the theater with my husband and daughter I thought I was going to be wasting the next 3 hours of my life. . . was I wrong. Avatar was a masterpiece - well worth the close to $12.00 price per ticket to see it in 3D which is the best way to see it to get the full experience. It grabbed you from the beginning and by the time it was over you had no idea almost 3 hours had passed. Great job James Cameron - the graphics were breathtaking!!!

The movie is magnificent. The story is simple, yet told eloquently with an investment in the hero and heroine and a hatred for the villain (while Cameron makes you understand why he acts so badly). The whole ethos of the movie is a gentle reminder of how we have lost respect for the essentials. It is a moving story that -- like "Wall Street" -- illustrates the negativity of greed and the corruption of those caught up in it.
The 3D effects can really be appreciated for how much they enhance the telling of the tale -- particularly the scenes in the air. They are so much a part of the movie that you want every movie to be like this from now on.

Wasn't sure that I was going to like it as much as I did..The effects were truly stunning. You did feel like you were in a different world. The film setting was wonderful, and the characters felt very real and plausible with lots of feeling. The scenery was fantastic and playful with a mix of danger requiring care in traversing the environment. The 3D was not cheesy, but added a wonderful depth to the scenes and action. There is no dragging time where you wish the story would go faster, and the movie feels much shorter in length than it really is. Time goes by quickly. See it - see it in 3D and you'll have a wonderful time!

I say experience because that's what it feels like to me. More like a full experience than just 'watching a movie'. You really have to see it in 3D to get the full effect. You'll want to live on the alien planet by the end of the movie. I've seen it three times now and each time I see it, I don't want it to end!
I think the 3D was much clearer in the regular theater than the IMAX. IMAX made some scenes fuzzy. Not worth the extra cash.

I saw the 3D version and this is the best implementation I have seen. The detail is excellent throughout the screen. Our theater was nearly full but throughout the movie, I don't recall a single person getting up for anything, talking or even coughing. All eyes were locked on the screen. It was two hours before I even thought to check my watch. The acting, storyline, and script all worked well together and were very good. The basic plot is the invading settlers try to take over a planet for their own greed without regard for the natives. However, the Indians kick butt and win in this story.

Avatar 3D is what a movie is supposed to be. Pure entertainment. Story line is not bad, and the graphics are fantastic. 2 hours and 40 minutes seemed like it was 30 minutes. I can't wait until this is out on Blue Ray!

Avatar was a great visual experience with the story to back it up. See it in 3D. See it in the theaters, don't wait to rent.
It was a classic 'Dances With Wolves' style story.
The anti-imperialist story line would also have been fine, except that the dialogue took you out of the movie experience. It was too direct of a commentary on the US/Iraq war and the analogy seemed misplaced at times. Regardless of your opinion on such matters it took you away from the story at hand.
The final battle scene was amazing. I actually felt my heart beating fast.

This is what going to the movies is all about, getting lost in fantasy for a few hours. This is the first cgi movie I have seen where I am not thinking about the special effects it is that real that you suspend belief. Cameron has moved the art form to the next level. This was an awesome movie! I could have stayed and watched all day. Wish they would not have cut so much. I could have watched for 300 minutes! What beautful and realistic characters and scenery!

This movie was absolutely STUNNING! The effects were unimaginable, beautiful and appropriately scary at times. With effects like this the script didn't have to be too thick. It was 2 hours and 40 minutes long, so be prepared to sit for a while. Otherwise it was INCREDIBLE!!

This movie is fantastic, the best movie that I have spent the money on and watched for a very long time. The stars were great, the whole look and flow was great, It is a beautiful movie in every way, color, effects, whatever was on the screen. Again just a supurb movie. One problem was everyone waited for Susan Sarandans character to be saved by the power and crossed over.
Don't see how there could ever be or any talk of a sequil or follow up, just wouldn't work in any way. Of course James Cameron is a genius and never say never, but this has to go down as one of a kind.
If I could rate this movie more than a 5 I sure would.

Took my two sons to this movie and this was by far one of the best Sci-Fi movies for awhile. Not really sure what the supposed true movie reviewers watch when they review movies, but apparently it is not what everyone else on the planet looks for. It had pretty much everything, to keep your eyes and mind on that screen. If only all movies were made this way. Great job and we hope there is a sequel. Can't wait.
