As a form of movie construction, this is a fabulous experience. The visual presentation is stunning, with seamless integration of film and computer generated images. Well paced action film with great visual depth. The story, however, is worse than lame. Take every war movie cliche, throw them in a shaker, and out pops this story. The dialogue is okay, but the story is so predictable that it's hard to write good lines. If you can ignore the story and enjoy the visual ride, go see it. To see a parallel in old movie making, consider John Woo's "Red Cliff." More or less the same story, complete with plucky female warriors, but done with acting (albeit stylized Chinese forms).

The word I would use to describe Avatar is "beautiful". They create a whole new world, and the effects are breathtaking. It is obvious that this is where most of the effort went when listening seriously to the script during live action scenes, which I can only describe as unintentionally humorous. But, I would have to say the obvious focus of attention on the computerized portion of the movie was well worth it.

A really herculean effort with a totally new movie experience as the result. There are elements of the live action/animation that have been used before, but not to this beauty and intelligent effect. The main enticement is the world of Pandora, but the acting is also believable and touching. Well-cast. A film that I would actually agree to see as many times as my 12 year old daughter will want to drag me to! There are some elements that would be a little rought for kids 10 and under most likely.

Honestly, I went into the theater without high hopes for this film. Within the first five minutes of the movie, I knew this was going to be something I had never seen before, as if I had been watching films in black and white my whole life. As another reviewer had mentioned, it's not the most unique plot/script ever, but the visuals and attention to detail are mind-blowing. Cameron has done it again. Very impressive film and has easily earned it's right into my top ten favorite films of all time.

There is no adequate way to review this movie using words or relating to other movies you have seen. You truly have to experience this incredible feat of moviemaking in Imax 3D while it is in theaters. I was floored every minute with some small detail of camerawork or graphics or storyline, and just when I relaxed, I'd be hit with a new effect or the shocking realization that I'm still watching in full, deep 3D.

My family walked out of the theatre with our jaws dropped. Rarely does a movie take my breath away, but this is one of them. It is readily apparent that James Cameron and everyone involved in this film poured their heart and soul into it.
As far if someone is considering whether or not to watch Avatar--go and watch it in 3D! It is worth the extra expense. This movie, if not the best one I have ever seen, is definitely in the top five.

Although this movie was not a particularly "fresh" plot line, Cameron does a great job of bringing this world and its inhabitants to life in a very fresh and imaginitive way. I also liked the fact that none of the acters (with the exception of Sigourney Weaver) were big name stars so you could totally immerse yourself in the story. A little long but definitely go and see it!

I had high expectations going into the movie and those expectations were definitely met. The CGI looked as real as I've ever seen. The 3D effects were brilliant. Particularly, the aerial scenes and the night-time illumination of the forest.
The storyline was good. The way I judge the flow of movies is how uncomfortable I get in my seat and I can't recall moving around too much. You will feel it when you get up after the movies over!
I view this movie as a metaphor for what's going in with the destruction of nature on our planet. Definitely will make you appreciate what the Earth has to offer and how reckless corporate can be.

I thought the movie was very well done. The 3D effect was good. Didn't bother me, but my son had a slight headache afterwards. The one suggestion I would make is that they have more depth of field in some of the shots, since it's a little disconcerting when viewing 3D that things you're verged/focused on may be out of focus if they're not what the camera was focused on. I would caution parents to see it first before deciding whether they want their kids to see a movie where you end up rooting for the aliens against the humans. May not be the messages they want impressionable kids to get. The movie overall was very engaging.

In a nutshell, the movie itself was decent, the writing needed some work, but the 3D experience was outstanding and made the whole thing highly enjoyable! Some of the sweeping landscape scenes were breathtaking, and watching embers fall in front of your face was amazing. I would definitely recommend this movie to all who have even the slightest interest, but definitely see the 3D one.

Not being huge fan of Science Fiction, I invited my husband, who is, to the 3D version. This changed my mind forever, and I am ready to see more of it. Best Moovie so far just before Titanic.
