After seeing the commercials and given that it is a Tim Burton film WITH Johnny Depp, I really expected more from this movie. From the beginning, my friend and I both looked at each other and said "are you kidding me?" I really liked the "look" of Alice, but not her acting so much. I really wished they had stuck to the original script more, leaving Alice as a little girl. They did not build up the history of Alice's visits to Wonderland and that really made this movie lose much of its credibility. So sad because it really had potential.

Nice...weirdly nice. Reminds me of a trip I once took...I think I ended up in Toledo. Very good use of 3D: not overdone, expansive in just the right places. Very interesting following on to Through the Looking Glass...especially the use of "Jabberwocky"...very creative.

I think the movie was outstanding in ways. But the film IS a sequel to the first film. I really think they could have put that out. Example:Alice in Wonderland:Return to wonderland or somthing? But like the first, it has silly parts. But this is NOT a family film. So if you are looking for a nice family film do NOT see this it has lots of freaky parts. It will scare young children!O_o

I absolutely loved this movie. Watching it in 3D is definitely the best way to view this movie. I like that Alice was played by a lesser known actress and I believe that Johnny Depp did an excellent job as the Mad Hatter. I appreciate everything that Tim Burton does for filmmaking and believe this to be one of his best.

This movie is many things - a collection of art deco images, a rip off of Narnia, another dark Burton interpretation of a classic children's tale - but it is most certainly NOT Alice in Wonderland. Having said that, it was interesting and the two 10 year olds that were with me liked it. I would rate it as average at best.

It's as though the writer asked an old friend what they knew about the story, after hearing a passing reference to it.
I do rather enjoy the fantasy-teaches-to-deal-with-reality angle, moreso because its not a current reality, but the treatment of Wonderland's existence and the state of that world I found a bit overdone - too serious, not the whimsical paranoia that I remembered. Fleshing out the characters (from my limited memory) was interesting, but the societal-political stances within Wonderland lacked the character-flaw-denotes-world-at-large-problems that allowed the original to teach you subversively.
Character limit on reviews is uncool. Deleted more than half.

The film has the fantastical and absurdist elements of the book with the layer of darkness we expect from Burton. Visually, the 3D effects add depth without creating nauseating motion. Animation does not obscure the expression of the actors, but the makeup is sometimes obstructive. Depp does an excellent job of emoting despite a lot of makeup. Those characters which are voiced by fully but animated are well done, without celebrity overshadowing the characters. The final resolution was a bit of a disappointment, and I felt it was not true to Lewis Carroll's or Tim Burton's vision. It seemed like a compromise.

In my opinion the costuming and effects were great! It had a dark twist from the original, which Tim Burton is all about ;) For me, it could've had more humor. The kids loved it! From the 7 year old to the 14 year old. Johnny Depp always has us coming back to the theaters!

Enjoyable and entertaining but some of the dialogue was difficult to understand. I took two 10 y/o boys and a 7 y/o girl - One of the boys didn't think there was enough 3D stuff in it (things hurtling toward him), the other two kids were slightly scared by the Jabberwocky but loved the movie. The last scene didn't really tie into the movie very well (how Alice goes on with her life). Overall, worthwhile and I'm sure we will buy the DVD.

Awesome Movie! Well worth the money!!!! Johnny Depp was absolutely amazing, as always. We are huge Tim Burton fan's, and this one wasn't a disappointment either!!!!!

Have to be sure you do not try to match this with the original. It is explained Alice had many of these dreams.
We cannot take our grandchildren to this (5 and 3) as it is too scary.
