When it first started, the black and white backdrop and solemn opera had me worried so I chugged a Starbucks VIA-BUT not necessary! The opera is wonderful, dramatic, political, and romantic. Highly recommended.

I am 75 years old and have been attending operas since I was 9 when my piano teacher started letting me accompany her (a god-send). I have watched opera performances by Verdi but this is the first time that I can remember watching and so thoroughly enchanted by this particular opera! The artists were magnificent, the music sublime and the presentation most enthralling. I am so fortunate to have been in the audience!

Really enjoyed this and I find the theatre shows to be more enjoyable than actually being at the MET. The camera angles, close ups, pretty much everything is superior to sitting out in the audience at the actual event. Binoculars just don't do justice to what we get on the screen.

I thought this HD simulcast was terrific. Placido Domingo was great, as were the other actors. It's a real boon for those of us who don't want to spend the money and time going into NYC. But the simulcast has its own benefits. Watching the back stage changes and interviews with the actors is very interesting. Having the cameras do close-ups also makes you feel right there; you could actually see Domingo sweat in the final scene.

I agree with Bassocantante, Morris can't reach down for the low notes. Amazingly and wonderfully Domingo can. Piczonka is a real spinto, always in short supply. I still don't get toy,toy, toy [ toi, toi, toi?]
