Sob story. It sickens me not only because of the incest etc., but because it's the same story over and over I hear living here in a big metro area. After a while you start to wonder--what can you do if a community chooses to do these horrific things to itself? What's worse is that it expects hand outs and support from other communities--to do what? Perpetuate this disgusting behavior while other minority communities pull themselves out of poverty? The theme of abuse of women is the only part I can really sympathize.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This film hit me hard when Precious talks about being, "Here." I knew what the meant because, I too experienced escaping from the reality of my own past as it happened. She was finally comfortable in the present when she felt safe. Also, I found it interesting that, although, the father's incest was clearly portrayed, the mother's incest scene was kind of vague as if mothers having sex with their kid is more of a taboo. I would only recommend this film if someone needed to understand the reality of child abuses. I would not recommend this film to someone seeking to be entertained. This is not entertainment for enjoyment although there are a few lighthearted scenes, which are meant to make the audience like and connect with the characters.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is a no holds barred look at incest, child abuse and poverty. It was moving, touching, and very emotional. Mo'nique (who plays Precious' mother) was absolutly amazing. She without a doubt deserved high praises for this role. Precious, while hard to watch, showed the immense perserverance of the human spirit. I read the book (Push) and was very pleased with the amazing portrayl by the actors. The movie was as moving as the book, and I cried during both.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A moving, pull-no-punches film that delves into a series of complex, heart-renching issues: sexual abuse, AIDS, poverty, desperation --- but never goes over the top. Brilliant acting performances from the entire cast, an amazing story and gritty images highluight one of the best films of the year.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

'Precious' is even better than its hype, and its hype was significant. This is not a feel-good movie. It's not supposed to be. The writing and acting are wonderful. Mo'nique is amazing. Mariah Carey took a big risk accepting her role and she's brilliant. Congrats to all who had the courage to make this film. A must see.

Went with a group of 10 people and all of us left feeling sick and depressed. There are better ways of getting the message out about this type of human abuse than an "in your face" movie about the plight of human suffering to this degree. The answer is not bringing this to the attention of the masses but changing the consciousness of those living in this type of world. If you want to perpetuate the problem I recommend going to see it, otherwise save yourself hours of depression and stay away.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Matter of fact, I just recommended this movie last night to someone. It is such an unfortunate story that plagues many communities all across our country. Many people aren't willing to talk about certain taboo subjects, but this movie brings it all out to the foreground. Be prepared to be shocked, cry, laugh, and be inspired.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
