Wonderfully directed film. Take it for what it is and keep an open mind as to the storyline. It is a comic book film. If you are a Megan Fox fan you might be disappointed with her role and not so frequent appearances in the film. John Malkovich does a satisfactory job as the villain but is upstaged by Michael Fassbender as his "toadie". Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) puts a new spin on Comic Book movies that is needed to bring the audience back into the comic book spirit, rather than the big screen, big money, hollywood antics.

Well, this was a fun way to spend an afternoon. Jonah Hex takes various elements of the characters' comic history (which began in 1971), and blends them together in a fairly interesting story overall.
There are some liberties taken, as is typically the case with comic-to-movie stories, but not so badly as to completely mangle the character. As a long-time fan of the DC comic, there is a lot I would have like to have seen, but probably too much for an introductory film.
For my tastes, there were a few touches of "Wild Wild West", which is a few too many, but it could have been much worse. I could have done without the "Confederate Super-Weapon", and without the sci-fi style hardware that popped up, but these things do not totally ruin the movie.
Megan Fox turns in a good performance (the character she was based on in the comic is actually heavily scarred), and Turnbull makes for a good villain (in the absence of established comic villains like El Papagayo). Josh Brolin does a good job, and the make-up for the scarred bounty hunter was also well done.
I liked the touches of the supernatural that were used in the film (in the comics, Hex has no such ability), but others may find them distracting.
My preference would have been for more wild-west action and less emphasis on the post Civil War area, but that's just my personal taste.
The soundtrack/score was also good, and suited the mood.
All in all, I liked the film, and I would (and already have) recommend it to friends.

I was not aware Jonah Hex was a DC "comic book" character until the credits rolled; so, that had absolutely nothing to do with it being my Senior Matinee of choice.
The episodic nature may have made more sense if I was a fan of Jonah Hex, but I wasn't looking for a film with a message but for simple escapism.
Suspension of disbelief is necessary if one simjply wants to enjoy an "action" film set in another era. Was I upset by a horseman with a portable Gatling gun? No! I did make a mental note about a Washington Monument complete with capstone on July 4, 1876 when I knew the capstone was not set until 1884; however, this anachronism did not subtract from my enjoyment.
In my not so humble opinion, Michael Fassbender stole every scene he was in. I look forward to seeing if he does this in his other movies.
Suspend disbelief and enjoy Jonah Hex for what it is -- 80 minutes of escapism!

This film was filled with excellent actors that managed to pull off excellent roles. There was a lot of action and several laughs too.
