This movie leaves you in awe from the first moment it starts. You feel like these people, these particles, these creatures are right before your eyes. And James Cameron really did deliver a wonderland.
The plot, however is stolen from a couple animated movies from my youth. I can overlook this, though because of the cinematography that blows everything out of the water. You MUST see this in theatres or you have absolutely missed out.

This movie redefines the genre for science fiction. The effects were imaginative and perfectly rendered, the characters were believable and charismatic, the story was interesting; altogether a great experience. The story line somewhat mirrors "Dances With Wolves", but that's not a problem since that was also a great experience. I've seen Avatar twice (second time with wife) and enjoyed it just as much the second time.

This movie is amazing. I went in thinking it was going to be great. I left the movie knowing that I just so an unbelievable awesome movie. At the IMAX 3D, I felt like I was there in the movie. The movie is just under 3 hours long, but it goes by very fast, and at the end you wish it was longer. I doubt I will see a movie in 2010 that will be able to combat this movie.

SciFi and fantasy production via CG now on the next level and hopefully a sign to come. I would certainly pay/wait the extra amount to get in to an IMAX 3D, even though you'll eventually see this on DVD/cable - but it won't be the same.
The under-tones are certainly on the 'Michael Moore'-level of disgust with American capitalism and 'soldiers are baby-killers.' If you're a multi-cultural/vegitarian/anti-war/drug-addict/pro-union/athiest, you'll LOVE LOVE LOVE this! Otherwise, get past the social issues and enjoy a premium movie experience!

The movie industry will never be the same. This movie will go down in history as setting the stage for the movie industry moving from 2D to 3D. It was breathtaking. Probably the best movie I ever saw, and judging by the long lines to get in (all shows sold out for weeks) everyone agrees.

Wasn't really prepared for how far 3D technology has come. The movie was an event that shouldn't be missed. From those old green and red glasses to the new techonlogy put together with the Imax experience made this movie other worldly....to the extent you found yourself right in the middle of the world James Cameron gave you. A must see...but don't cheat yourself...SEE IT in IMAX 3 D !!!

This movie was awesome was beginning to end. My husband & I are not big 3D fans, but we knew we had to see this in the best setting...3D/IMAX! It was great....like someone said...never a dull moment...even though the movie is well over 2 1/2 hrs...you would never know it...kept my interest from beginning to end. Highly recommend it!

Absolutely fantastic sci-fi/ fantasy/ action packed movie!!!! LOVED all of the special effects and graphics.... Definitely need to see this in 3D IMAX!!! The story-line was interesting and very creative too. Never a dull moment with this one. I think younger viewers might get a little bored only because some parts might be hard for a child to follow and it is a long movie...

Twenty years ago I sat in Ceasears Palace Las Vegas I MAX and said someday they will make real movies in I MAX well someday is here.
IT IS TRULY AN I MAX EXPERIENCE. then add 3d an it's mind blowing. special effects were fantastic the movie was great I enjoyed every minute of IT.. I only got one simple message from the film. TAKE CARE OF THE EARTH OR IT WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU. One word of caution though. Be sure to see it on a FULL SIZE I MAX SCREEN. If not you could be dissapointed. Be sure to know your screen is full sized it could be worth the drive to a full sized screen. I saw it at the I max 25 in the Arizona mills mall in Tempe Arizona.
ENJOY THE SHOW.

If you are going to see Avatar, then you owe it to yourself to see it in all it's glory. IMAX 3D is the only way to see Avatar. The story line is nothing new, but the special effects are leading edge and spectacular and deserve the extra expense of IMAX 3D.

Worth the extra money for IMAX. Avatar is not full of 3D tricks. Instead, the 3D helps set the mood and impoves your enjoyment.
I am able to imagine a better resolution to the human-alien conflicts, but the ending used allows for a more exciting sequel, as well as showing that Jake Sully has flaws along with his big heart.
