The movie was very good and the special effects were stunning.
The 3d effects did make the movie more realistic but about 2 hours into the movie my eyes started hurting. Just a warning to those who are not used to 3d movies.
The show i had booked had sold out. And towards the end of the movie the hall was so hot. They could have done a better job of regulating the temperature with so many people in the room.
Bottom line.. the movie was good but the experience could have been better. Hence the 3 stars.

At the beginning of the movie I had trouble adjusting the 3D glasses to fit over mine and still view above the bifocal. The 3D effects were such that a 3 hour long movie did not bother me. The effects were wonderful and the story, though simplistic and predictable, was still good. Best to see in IMAX 3D.

After seeing "Avatar" in IMAX 3-D, I'm ruined for seeing anything in LESS than that format! The movie itself was VERY well done. I was impressed with the battle scenes - amazing conflicts, intense head-to-head action, without the normal exploding bodies, buckets of blood and airborne body parts ... and EVERY bit as effective.
As far as the IMAX 3D Experience -- it is exactly that! I had seats in the highest far-right corner of the theatre and not only was the audio clear, clean and consistent, but the 3D never suffered from not sitting dead center, as necessary in "the old days." It also helped a LOT they didn't "wow" you with the 3D by having missles and arms etc. come "flying out of the screen over the audience” -- it was 3D at its best!

Nearly everyone I have spoken to has been back twice or more to see this outstanding movie. In my humble opinion , from a visual effect point of view this one is a stepping stone on par with the advances of the 'Matrix' and Tolkien movies..Seeing it on imax is a must..just make sure you get a seat at least half way back..enjoy!

This marks the second huge-budget James Cameron movies that will make back the amount spent and more and really just isn't worth it. The plot (if one can call it that) is one-dimensional while the visual effects try to be three-dimensional. I really tried to like this movie. In fact, I wanted to like this movie. But, after the 2 hours of exposition, I just didn't care anymore.
The only thing this movie really has going for it is the visual effects--and those weren't even as great and wonderful as everyone hyped them to be. I can see how people can fall into a depression after viewing this movie--they're depressed because they just lost 3 hours of their lives with nothing to show for it but a migraine.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Overall fun-filled movie going experience. Not sure how the 3D IMAX compared to the regular 2D, but it was definitely as visually amazing as everyone says.

Excellent story and special effects! We did notice some similarities to Aliens. The IMAX 3D added to the movie experience, since we don't usually go to theatres. Awesome movie!

I loved the way the producers were able to so easily move between reality and computer animation. The storyline, characters and setting were so imaginative. I will definitely see this movie again!

An unbelievable blend of high technology with a multi level storyline that is easily followed, but still entertaining. After having seen the 3D movie on a normal size screen, the IMAX 3D is absolutely amazing! This movie is best in the IMAX format. I can't wait for the sequels... Supposedly there are two more written to complete the trilogy!

Very good movie, a bit predictable in that the big bad-guy is the military machine and the good guys are the natives. Reminds me of movies done hundreds of times. The natives are best approximated as american plains indians in style and action. Maybe the world of Ewoks meets Apache Indians and Fern Gully. Probably a 4.5 star movie.
The 3D was 'mostly' unable to be seen throughout the movie. Much more could have been done in 3D regarding depth. If you are going to make people wear giant oversize glasses that are not very clear (or comfortible) for almost 3 hours, I would have thought you would have made it worth their while.
Sound quality & IMAX was great as usual.

The pictures were amazing. The plot was so terrible. I actually fell asleep during the movie because it was so boring. The graphics alone are what you're there to see. I would have to recommend this movie in the theater, as the home version will not even begin to compare.

This had to be one of the best Sci-Fi specticals I've ever watched. In IMAX 3D it was even more amazing. It had great effects, good, but predictable story, great direction and acceptable acting. It needs 3D and IMAX to truly be appreciated and I recommend it to all audiences.

The movie and effects were fabulous! Having seen it in both Real3D and IMAX, definitely see it in Real3D. The paper lenses used for IMAX are old technology and are fatiguing and distracting on the eyes. The AMC Promenade 24 IMAX where I saw it last night was so hot during the movie, my glasses kept steaming up!

Not only did this movie have stunning visuals, it also had a great soundtrack and a moving story. The visual technique that was used really captured the emotion of each of the characters. I saw this movie twice in IMAX 3D and enjoyed it thoroughly both times. I recommend seeing the 3D IMAX version if you get the chance!

The movie was OK - just OK. The review mentioning Fern Gully was right on - I kept flashing to it during the movie. The 3D was marginal - I was more impressed with the 3D at the Back to the Future ride at Disneyland 10-15 years ago. The graphics were well done for sure, but for $300MM they'd better be.
My big complaint was the IMAX theatre. I don't know how it works in Kansas, but where I come from (MN) an IMAX theatre (Science Museum of MN) the screen starts at the floor up front and goes all the way to the junction of the ceiling and the rear wall. The screen here (in Olathe) was just a rectangle. Not only was the picture compressed at the middle, but I wasn't impressed. Give me my 15 bucks back.

I have seen this movie 4 times since it's release and I must say it gets better each time. There are so many little details that you miss out on during the first experience that it takes more than once to really enjoy and take in everything this movie has to offer. Visually, one of the best movies ever made! Storyline was great, it kept your attention through the entire 2 hrs and 40 mins and you really feel an emotional attachment to the Navi people. Overall, this movie is in my top 3 all time and I will most likely return for a 5th time in the next few weeks. There is a reason this movie cleaned up last night at the Golden Globe Award show. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and see it at the Imax in your area.

Normal mix of James Cameron's stunning visuals, groundbreaking effects, moral messages and less-than-stellar dialogue. Very highly recommended that this movie is seen in IMAX 3D for the full theater effect. One of the finer movies of this last year.

I loved it the first time, seeing it on regular 3D screen. The second time I saw it IMAX 3D at AMC. The screen was regular size, but the IMAX 3D was MUCH better!!

Movie is very visually appealing. The IMAX/3D experience makes you feel like you are truly a part of the movie. At times the movie did feel slow, but then picked up.
The marines bad/natives good theme was a bit overdone. Would have preferred a more generic "bad guy."

This movie is an excellent visual experience. It's creativity is inspiring, yet grounded in reality and universal struggles that make it incredibly easy to identify with. I wish that the stereotypical figures of the Marine--in-charge and the evil corporate executive would have been made more complex and interesting, but the more central storyline was so well developped that it overcomes these flaws.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and my husband and I are already discussing seeing it a second time.

While this movie was very appealing to look at, I definitely felt like I knew where it was going down to the smallest detail by minute five. I'm not sure that it was worth $13 dollars, but I'd recommend seeing it in theaters just for the beauty of the cinematography. If you're looking for something that your child will be able to understand and be inspired by, you've got a winner on this one, too.
