Pretty interesting movie. The concept can be applied to what is going on in the world today. It seems we are striping the earth of its natural resources and not caring what we do to the environment. Very interesting plot to the movie.

Nice effects and the environment created is gorgeous.
A little bit preachy with some obvious political overtones. The Navi' are too pristine and all faults are attributed to humans. A little too black and white.
Would not mind to see the sequels to elaborate on this story.

I saw the iMax 3D version, and it was wonderful. The sound was phenomenal and the visual was spectacular. I had chills a few times during the movie, and the experience was fantastic.

First, I want to talk about how awesome IMAX was. This was my first IMAX experience. The imagery and sound blew me away - so worth the extra bucks. Now, on to Avatar - this movie could do no wrong IMHO. Interesting plot built on a classic tale of boy meets girl - falls in love - loses girl - wins her back - Check; Riveting action and thrilling special effects - Check; Gorgeous imagery that takes you to another place - Check; Subtle/Not So Subtle political commentary that makes you think about real world USA - Check. If you are one of the few remaining humanoids that haven't seen this film - stop what you are doing and go see it - right now - suggest you check if it's sold out first though - took me three tries to get in!

While the plot is moderately predictable and standard, I still was at the edge of my seat throughout the film. I never felt bored or anxious for the movie to end.
Also, the visuals were astonishing. I felt like I was in the world of Pandora. The 3D effect was done very well, and the movie felt like it was taking place in real space.

like my boss said... "i want to be a blue people" lol not but really it would be pretty amazing to be a na'vi. the acknowledgment that it brings forward about how we are killing our mother earth was just heart braking. i've already see it twice... loved it

This film offered an entertainining story, with an engaging cast, but is defined by the amazing 3-D special effects. Without these stunning effects, Avatar would certainly be less exciting and would likely qualify for no more than 4 stars.

I saw this movie in 3-D on a regular screen and really enjoyed it. Then I saw it on I-Max 3-D and enjoyed it even more! I felt like I was so close to the action--like looking through a window, like I could reach out and touch the characters! In my opinion the mixing of familiar themes into the plot: good vs. evil, advanced civilization plundering primitive civillization, innocence vs. world technology; trust vs. betrayal, added to the enjoyment for me. Acting was great. Choice of actors well matched for the characters. It was a little far-fetched in some spots; but I turned my rational mind off and just enjoyed the moment.

This movie was excellent, one of the best movies I've seen in a while. I found that even though the movie is 2hrs and 40min, the time went by quickly. There were very few areas (two maybe) where I felt the movie needed to pick up the pace, and those moments did not last long before more action was "thrown" in your face. In IMAX 3D, the action is literally "in your face." It was great! Debris seems to almost hit you. I thought some scenes were a little blurry around the edges, or when there was a lot of fast movement. However, I think it's because the IMAX screen is so big- kind of like sitting 12 inches in front of a 55" LCD tv. :) I'd go see this movie again, and I will most likely buy it when it comes out on Blu-ray.

I saw this movie in 2D regular theater first. Then in IMAX 3D. OMG, this was so amazing in 3D. There was no comparison. You HAVE to see it in IMAX 3D or don't see it at all. With that huge screen you felt like you were in the movie. We are booking our next visit already.

OK, First off- the story idea has been done before. It has been done better before. But story is only one reason why you go to a movie. When you go to a James Camron movie you go to see what he is going to SHOW you. This movie shows you a fantastic world, incredible creatures, and military marvels. It also raises the bar very high for all CGI and effects to come in future movies.
What is the difference between 3D and IMAX 3D. Call it the difference between watching a movie at home and watching a movie in the theater. If you have the option, take the IMAX.
To ensure no headaches- dont look at things outside of the artificial 3D realm. Dont look at your friends, your popcorn, drink, phone or watch. You should be fine.

This movie was amazing. I have seen it twice in 3D iMax. I would recomend this movie in 3D iMax to anyone. Great movie for any occasion, and probly the movie of the year. Its a toss up between this one and Star Trek I think. Epic Movie! If you dont see this in 3D iMaxs you will kick yourself later.

Avatar ROCKED. This was my 1st 3D IMAX experience. Found it highly enjoyable. It was not Jim's 1st experience but he still felt that it was awesome as the 1st time. The effects were fantastic & the CGI was almost seemless...good plot & action sequences. It bought to light mankinds destructive nature especially to the unknown along w/ mankinds materialistic desires. These same destructive agendas have been historically documented & continue today. Hopefully movies like this will continue...However, the only way you can truly decided on the movie is by seeing it so please see the movie & make your own determination...We truly thought the whole movie ROCKED!! Every part of it...& you may too...

James Cameron really outdid himself with the new effects...it truly felt as if I was there. At the same time, the story line did not get eclipsed by the spectacular scenery. This is a "must see" movie and one that is BEST to be seen either in Real 3-D or IMAX.

Oprah was right its best to see it in IMAX 3D and in the middle up high so you are level witht the screen. WOW !!!!! My husband and I loved it.

This is the second time I have seen this movie. First time in 3D, second time in 3D IMAX. Oh wow, is all I can say! Even the seats rumbled. I LOVED IT, I'll probably see it again. Amazing! We first saw Avatar in its regular movie format and thought it was beautiful and very well done. My 83 year old father saw it in its regular format and then 3D format (not IMAX) and wanted to see it in IMAX 3D. We invited him to go with us. All of us agreed that it was just AWESOME and that the IMAX 3D enhanced the movie experience! ! If you haven't seen it, bypass the regular format and just go to IMAX 3D. You will not be sorry!

I was all ready to be blown away and was a bit disappointed. Having seen several 3D movies, the 3d wow factor was not there. The special effects were great but no better than Raiders of the Lost Ark or even Transformers both of which I enjoyed better than Avatar. It's good but over rated and not on the must see list. A very good Red Box rental especially if you are OK not seeing it in 3D.

Watched it for the second time last night with a couple that had never seen it before. I enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than the first time around. Usually with blockbusters, one aspect of a movie overpowers the others (storyline, actors, special effects). In this movie, all aspects helped to create a fabulous movie. IMAX 3D is the only way to see this movie!
The movie experience was not so great, however. The glasses made my eyes hurt a couple times during the movie and parents bringing in 2 year olds ruined it a little bit as well. That being said, I'm not going to mark down the movie based on the experience.

The IMAX 3D was the best 3D experience I have had. Excellent visual effects with a solid but predictable story line. However, the predictability did not diminish the quality of the my experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the break-taking visuals and heart stopping sound effects. I can't wait to see it again.

The only negative to me was the amount of violence and war in the movie, but seeing the wonderful world of Pandora made it all worth it. I wish I could go there!
