I am a pretty big critic of movies. I love them, but I feel many of them in the past decade have under-performed, and do not live up to the hype.
I went in expecting a lot, and for me, this movie delivered. I don't normally like sci-fi, but you cannot help but becoming completely engaged in the world of Pandora, and the cinematography is purely undescribable.
This movie is already legendary IMHO, and continues to intrigue, long after one has left the theater. The 3D technology needs to be seen to be understood.
You won't regret seeing this movie.

When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I was skeptical, but I have learned to trust James Cameron.
An exciting visual experience with ground-breaking technology, It still manages to emotionally involve the viewer.
A really great movie experience!

Avatar 3D IMAX was absolutely AWESOME. We have a huge screen home theater, and no need for the PITA of a public theater. But seeing Avatar in 3D IMAX was was worth every penny of the $15/ admission and a half hour drive to Alexandria. We will probably go see it there a second time if it is still playing in a month.

What a wonderful fantasy trip this movie took us on! I even ducked twice when items were thrown at the screen. Felt as if I could actually hold the white balls of moving fluff as they moved toward me in the air. When ashes fell from the fire I could actually see them landing on the heads of the people in the rows in front of me. I'd love to see it again at the IMAX!! Waiting for the next 3-D IMAX movie to get here!

Amidst tough times, Hollywood's been playing it safe with remakes that ride the coattails of the original. How boring! Avatar represents a bold, brave dive, head-first into the future of filmmaking. Worth every ballsy bit its cool $200m price tag! Hearing praise about any movie conjures high expectations which inevitably yield disappointment by the time the credits roll. With Avatar, however, my greatest expectations set the bar too low! Every element is solid & the themes are important & relevant to modern times. Above all, the IMAX experience puts you inside the story. It's visual ice-cream and, more so, as if you can smell the new world and feel it with your fingertips too. Do not wait to rent this movie. It's history in the making!

By far one of the best movies I have ever witnessed ... Cameron was correct with his intentions of bringing individuals back to the theatre with a memorable experience.
The technology behind the film was fascinating and certainly was visible throughout the plot, and the plot itself was substantial enough to carry the viewer to the climax, which I would argue waited until the very end.
A little long and at times I would become restless through certain parts of the film, however soon following something happened to easily re-capture me.
Highly recommended ... you do not want to wait until this is out on DVD unless you have an 8-story screen and 3D projector.

Watching it is a great experience and that is why I would recommend it. But the story is as shallow as it can get - and I almost thought it was done on purpose because you either have to be very intelligent and poke fun at present day realities, or totally unintelligent to endorse that kind of story and dialog. I kind of prefer to think the former.

Technically, it's astounding. But, for four hundred million dollars, I sort of expect that. And I expect that for the hefty price of admission. However, what I also expect is an original innovative script. I love the socially conscious themes presented, but not the heavy handed execution. This viewer refused to be blinded by million dollar special effects driven "magic lantern show," at the sacrifice of orginality, engaging dialogue and not to mention, competent acting ability.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I was a little weary of this movie after all of the hype that it received, but I must say that it surpassed all of my expectations. It is one of the most visually stunning movies ever made (along the likes of "2001: A Space Odyssey" and The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and the story is an allegory for many of the pressing issues of today (the war in Iraq and global warming just to name two). I strongly recommend seeing it in 3-D, and IMAX if possible. This movie will surely be considered a classic in years to come.

The movie itself was well written, well directed and well acted. Seen in IMAX 3D makes for an absolutely one of a kind experience. We worried it would be too long for our child with ADD/HD but was pleasantly suprised that the storyline moved along enough that we didn't hear a peep out of him until it was over! My only suggetion is... use the bathroom before you go in and don't order hte giant coke - you won't want to get up til the movie is over!

This film was probably the most amazing cinematic experience I've ever had -- a completely wonderful time. The graphics are amazing, the sound was right on, and the battle scenes are great. The story is kind of old, yes humans are destroying the world and there are allegories to the conquest of the Americas and Africa and even modern counter-terrorism, but I still very much enjoyed the film.
The IMAX experience was fine but I don't know if it would be that much better than regular 3D. The theater we saw the film at had some technical issues which caused the film to stop in the last battle, and it took them about 10 minutes to fix it... so that kind of sucked, but the film was still great.

Avatar the movie lives up to all the hype, incredible special effects and a great story line, although at 2 hours and 40 minutes a tad too long. However, IMAX at the AMC was a dissappointment. Other than the 3D glasses, much like any other movie experience

We loved the movie...great animation and effects. A must see in IMAX 3D. Disturbing in the fact Marines were fighting each other but overall a very good movie. One of our friends had no onterest in going but she loved it afterwards. Buy tickets online and get there at least an hour before to get good seats.

I strongly disagree the movie was too long. I couldn't get enough! Anything less would make it just a movie; not an experience. My husband and I felt totally immersed in James Cameron's Padora world and were sad to leave. The creativity, CG and 3D technology was astounding and pure magic. Yes, the storyline and message was used and predictable, but I think a more complex story would have been lost behind the visual stimulation the viewer had to process. If you are a true sci-fi fan, you will fall in love with Pandora and its' inhabitants. I would see this movie over and over, just to "become" one with the magic of this world.

This movie was awesome. I just have to start out by saying that. For being 2 hours and 40 minutes long, it sure went by fast and I was sorry to have to leave that world. They did an incredible job in the details of the movie. The actors were great. The story was real enough for a futuristic setting in an alien world. Way to go, guys!
