Probably THE best special effects masterpiece I have ever seen. The acting was great and the line between the graphics and ther real thing was seamless. The plot was believable, even if it was almost like a fantasy. The 3D was amazing. There was a certain "nobility" to the story that was sadly diminished when my God's name was taken in vain. Thankfully, that only happened about 4 or 5 times.

First off the visual effects were unlike anything i have ever seen. Absolutely beautiful, great use of light and colors and the special effects were breathtaking. The message of the movie was just as impressive as the visuals. It striked a pertinent point that we are all one race and we need to have compassion for one another and respect each individuals beliefs. We should also respect our planet and its resources. I think it depicted the human aspect of greed and materialism very well. An amazing movie i would highly recommend to anyone. Everyone should take the time out too see this film.

This was a tremendous adventure which my wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed. The special effects alone were spectacular and far superior to anything we have seen before. Although this is a fantasy it carries a powerful message about real life and mans inhumanity to man. It also relates the sacred beauty of nature which many today forget but which the peoples of millenias past understood and respected. A powerful story indeed!

Fortunately I bought my IMAX 3D ticket online since it was all sold out for the day at 9:15 a.m. Saturday!! Avatar was a real joy to watch. It was filled with beautiful images. It was easy to forget that there was animation mixed into it. Much to my surprise I found the battle scene at the end interesting. It was cleverly thought out and certainly not as one-sided as I had expected. I have been recommending this film to friends.

Seen many movies with same plot scenario but the special effects are spectacular, especially if you see the movie in IMAX 3D effect equipped theaters. I liked it even better than "Titanic." Thank you Mr. Cameron.

A week ago I saw this movie in Real 3D and everything popped out and it was an amazing movie. I heard so much about this movie in IMAX so a tried it out and it wasn't as eye popping as expected. The movie didn't seem as 3D as the Real 3D. The movie itself was good though. I would watch it a third time if someone paid for me.

Look, there is a lot of BS circulating around about this movie, the best of all time:
Seriously. The storyline is NOT predictable.
There is nothing in the movie that reminds you of anything you've ever seen before.
3 hours feels like 1 hour. If you have to urrinate, you will forget about it. Trust me.
Racist? No, that is a little extreme. Did you think the Matrix was racist? Terminator? Humans against the machines? EXACTLY.

This is a fairly generic story wrapped in great visual effects and 3D imagery. But Avatar will probably become THE movie that will lead the way for other 3D productions. Unlike some previous 3D pieces I have seen, where the 3D effects become blatant and annoying, this one simply adds enough 3D effect to enhance the visual experience.
The story is a very typical and predictable "boy meets girl with a culture (species) clash/war good vs. evil plot that puts their love in jeopardy." If you think you've seen this story a dozen times in "conventional" movies; -- you have.
But, in spite of the predictability and tread-bare premise, Avatar is still a lot of fun to watch. If you can see it in an iMax theater, do it.

My friends and I have seen this movie four times and we are going to see it again next Saturday. I personally am in love with this movie. The delicate portrayal of life’s balance, unity in the time of crisis, the connection amongst the natives with their surroundings, the gorgeous lighting rendered in the forests of Pandora and the overall depiction of purity are breathtakingly beautiful. This movie for the lack of a better word is AWESOME. It makes me wish for the actual existence of the Navi people and their life style – I know it sounds crazy, but I can’t help it, LOL. I love it, love it and love it. I will definitely recommend this movie to all my friends.

I don't agree with zentravi's review. This movie is a spectacular event in cinematic history. James Cameron included a lot of interesting symbolism and amazing special effects. He was not repeating anything or dumbing down the concepts. Wars of one ethnic group against another is historical; perhaps we will learn something from it.
See it in IMAX 3D for the best enjoyment.

The special effects in this movie are like nothing you will see in other movies. The landscape and beauty will take your breath away. And the point of the movie - that we are all one human family, all life is important and that we should preserve and respect the environment in which we live - is an added bonus. The movie is 2.5 hours long, but it doesn't feel it. the plots moves along effortlessly.
Even if you think that you won't like (as I originally did), go see it. You won't be disappointed.

The 3D and the Imax were very nice. The movie itself played upon all the themes seen before in other movies, and was extremely over-simplified, militaristic,and obvious. Has humanity become a nation of media sheep, succumbing to the dummying down of all moral, ethical, racial, and literate ideas?. The movie was, in short, a joke and an insult, adding to the declining intelligence of humanity.

We got there pretty early for the Matinee, which with popcorn and soda to share still cost us $48 for (3) people, but the theatre was packed. Great effects, predictable story line, but I really enjoyed the characters.
The gal that plays the main blue heroine is particularly good... and it's always great to see Michelle Rodriguez and Sigorney. The main character guy is pretty good too.
You get lost in it... time flies. Still, an intermission would have been really, really nice. Go see it!! But definitely buy your tickets in advance. We skipped the lines and popped right in, which got us some pretty good seats.

This movie is wonderful however I suggest making sure the theater you're viewing it in is a real IMAX. A lot of theaters are just upgrading sound and projectors and moving the screen a little closer and calling it imax... I had the ill fate of going to such a theater and let me tell you it by no means compares to the real imax experience...

This movie is great. I have seen it on regular screen and again in IMAX 3D. I would highly recomment IMAX 3D as there were numerous things that I did not notice in the regular movie that were obvious in IMAX 3D.

Avatar the IMAX Experience was great; the graphics and sound were awesome. That being said, there was actually a story to this movie - a story of Colonialism and intolerance. The movie does have some dark moments, but it also has some incredible light-hearted sequences. I'll definitely be seeing this again.

More than a movie, this was an experience. You MUST see it in 3D, preferably in IMAX. Unlike other 3D films where only a few parts of the movie showcase the 3D capability, in Avatar the ENTIRE movie is in 3D. You really feel like you're in the movie. Add to that the amazing special effects and fun storyline, and this becomes a real must see.

Movie should be seen in the theater (IMAX or not). But I was disappointed in the "fake" IMAX. I've been to real IMAX theaters... The one at the City Center in White Plains is not one of them.

This is the new benchmark of what the movie studios can produce. The 3D version is the only way to see it unless you can’t handle riding on a roller coaster. Another great story line that shows that absolute power corrupts absolute. This time the good guys are blue.

Gave it 5 stars based on the graphics alone!
If you're going to see Avatar see it in 3D or you'll miss a huge part of the flick. The plots pretty predictable and some parts that the kid's will like will seem sort of lame/cheesy to the adults.
Still a great movie.

Avatar was a bit of a mixed bag for me. It was too long. It could have used some editing, like cutting out 15 or 25 minutes. Plus the script is pretty weak and the actors seem lost in space. That said, I don't think people are seeing Avatar for it's script or acting. It does deliver on its visuals. It is a beautiful film to watch and the world James Cameron has created is breathtaking. The 3D IMAX experience was amazing and I highly recommend people see it in this capacity.

This moveie gets a 10 for visual effects and an amazing 3D IMAX experience, BUT shame on James Cameron and Hollywood for depicting our US Marines as malicious and with no concern for the sanctity of life. The story line could have been exactly the same, but the movie creators could have used arbitrary military characters to avoid insulting our US Military. Our US Marines and other US Miltary personnel put their lives on the line each and every day to protect our citizens and the freedoms we enjoy (like being able to go watch 3D IMAX movies)!

The movie was very good, the sound system made the explosions much more effective. The 70MM print made the picture very clean and sharp. The movie is definitely worth seeing.
However, if you are expecting the full IMAX experience you will be disappointed. The screen at the Hoffman IMAX is not the 5 story screen you will see at the Air and Space museum downtown or at Dulles. This screen is not much bigger than the screen at your local theater (main screens). This particular screen is more a "RealMax" screen, not a proper IMAX (see the IMAX website).

I can't get enough of this movie. I have seen it twice in 3D and this time was in IMAX 3D. I totally recommend it in IMAX 3D as it was so crisp and clear and I saw things I didn't see in the other 3D movie. It is a wonderful movie and I plan on seeing it again. This is a "MUST SEE" movie. I totally recommend it to anyone of any age.

Avatar IMAX 3D is the best movie I have ever seen!!!! Saw it last night and I am still in a trance. There has only been 3 other movies that have affected me like this: Star Wars episode IV (the original), Seven and The Matrix. It goes way beyond just "watching a movie", it is an experience and a very powerful one at that!! Some people are comparing Avatar with other movies like Aliens and Star Wars, let me tell you, there is no comparison!!! I loved those movies also but come on! This is a must see in the theaters and do yourself a favor, pay the extra money to see it in IMAX!!!!! I might go see it again today!!!!
