I'm 47yo and only go to the theater to see "big" movies. I put off on seeing this one just because it didn't really look interesting. All my friends said I should see it, though, so I did and it changed my perception of what movies should be. I feel that movies should "take you somewhere else" or let you "live in someone else's shoes" well, this movie does that and more. For almost 3 hours, I was alive and living in and on a different world....a beautiful world full of unbelievably realistic special effects which blurred the line between real and CG. It was almost as if I was the proverbial "fly on the wall" as I watched the characters interact. I truly felt I was there. Amazing movie that will stand the test of time.

The movie had incredible technology that demonstrated a beautiful picture. The movie is worth seeing.
As an evangelical Christian, I did take notice to the "worship nature" religious message. I find it interesting that Cameron will go to great lengths to disprove the deity of Christ, but project his own religion into this movie. If you are a believer in Truth, just be aware of the message this movie sends and be able to respond appropriately with friends. Very much enjoyed the movie, however!

If you are able to suspend reality when you go to the movies, this is one of the best experiences you can have in film today. Regular 3D doesn't even come close to the IMAX experience. The animations are amazing in their clarity, the story behind the animations is powerful, and it proves the power of actions AND words to help make the world (whichever one you happen to inhabit) a better place.

The most visually perfect movie I have ever seen. The story line was fantastic as well. Everything you need in a movie...good vs evil, love story, aliens, ancient tribes, action and some violence. How will Cameron top this ?When he does I will definately be there ! I actually have seen it twice, both times at IMAX...I'm hooked !

Avatar exceeded all my expectations! My husband and I saw it in Imax 3-D and we could not belive the spectacular effects!. We felt like we were a part of the movie and actually on Pandora! That is, everyone over the age of , say, 8 or 9. Be aware that it is nonstop action - the nearly 3 hours goes by in a flash - and there are a great many battle scenes that young children would find disturbing. Visually, Avatar is as lush a movie as I've ever seen. Pandora is Shangri-la in 3-D, with hanging islands, plants that light up, flying dragons and many other delights. The people who live there are equally entrancing , like blue Olympic athletes who move like limber monkeys. Absolutely delightful. My husband and I drove for 5 hours to see it on IMAX - worth the long drive.

This movie is one of the most visually beautiful I have ever seen. Our whole group was blown away with the 3d. It may have been 3 hours but we became so involved it didn't seem like it.

This was the second time seeing the movie. First in regular 3D this time in IMAX. I made the 60 minute drive. Would I do it again? sure I guess so. I got there before the credits but I still had to sit in the very front row. I'd love to have sat in the middle, might have really impressed. As it was, it was ok. Knowing before hand that I would be sitting in the front row, I wouldn't have made the drive and spent the extra cash. Oh well.

Although the story is the classic good versus eviel with the conflicted hero at the center it was not tired in any way shape or form due to the strong charactors, well written story and excellent casting.
The depth of detail and effect of 3D placed you dead in the middle of the movie. It was unlike anything I have ever seen before.
Too many action films these days that use CGI are over the top and insult the intelligence of the Audience this movie was not of that mold.
Maybe its because of the motion capture used in the making but it looked real as if you could touch it. The bar for these types of films has now been raised to the stratusphere. Bravo Mr Cameron you are a true visual artist and story teller.

AVATAR great achievement in special effects- if given unlimited budget imagination has opportunity 2 b expressed in monumental terms.
Story line formulaic, but rendering of "planet" Pandora- breath-taking. Colors, shapes, lighting literally a feast for the eyes.
movie has some "cuss" words, and violent scenes still a movie to take kids to. Took 2 boys 10&11 & girl 12, all thought it was awesome got the message we need to be more in touch w/ all living things; we humans do not live in a vacuum.
The IMAX and 3D offer greater opportunity to be "in" the movie-was really worthwhile experience; money well spent. This is one you need to see in large screen format- ordering from netflix will not do it for you!

I didn't know what to expect and my husband talked me into going and I am so glad I went. This movie did not seem 3hours long. It pulled you in and you felt like part of the movie. I was a little disspointed with the AMC IMAX, it seemed like a regular screen, not the warp around kind that I have seen before. It was still so amazing, even a younger child would enjoy it, it was a pretty clean movie. Amazing that that a human has that kind of imagination. Truly an experience. You must see it on the big screen.

This movie keeps you involved from beginning to end. Visually stunning, too bad it had to involve war...doesn't it always. :(
Get there very early if you do not buy your tickets online. We went two weeks in a row and the shows sold out within 20 minutes of opening the ticket counter. Also get there early to get a good seat, if you wait you may not find a seat.
