Great movie, nothing groundbreaking in the story or acting, but the spectacle itself was remarkable. I only wonder if it could have been better on a LARGE IMAX screen??... Which brings me to the question: What constitutes an IMAX screen? I've seen IMAX movies at the smithsonean before on gigantic screens that immersed the viewer into the movie. The theater where I saw AVATAR made me pay for a premium "IMAX experience", but the screen was a typical multi-plex sized screen. The 3-D was amazing, but I can only wonder how good it would have been on the IMAX screen I expected!

This is an old sci-fi standard plot, with hundreds of novels and stories written in the same vein over the last 50 years. Since the 60's various intertwining socially relevant sub-plots were wrapped into it all, in this case, for instance, cultural tolerance and the environment. Technically, it was an excellent method of re-introducing 3-D to the general public, and coupled with computer generation of special effects, it couldn't be beat.

My husband and I have seen this movie 3 times because it is one of the best produced in quite a while. The best experience is in IMax 3D, but no matter how you choose to see it, you definitely should see it. It truly feels real. As my grandson said seriously, he wants to go to Pandora....it was that real to him.

What a ride !! Never have I seen anything like this. The detail. The clarity. All top drawer.
But the story was an old, tired rehash of colonial exploitation. And the acting was mediocre. But all in all it was an unforgetable experience.

The movie surpassed any expectation that I had. The graphics were beyond anything I have ever seen and the plot of the movie was great as well. Although a longer movie, it kept me interested the whole time. I can't wait to go see it again.

As a television producer, I must say that the movie was amazing at all levels. Graphics were incredible, action over the top. A bit predictable, but still a great story! The effects were off the chain and 2 hours and 40 minutes felt like an hour. The only way to see movies, a new dimiension. How can one settle for less?

The storyline on this movie was action packed, and romantic all in one. We saw this in IMAX 3D- don't sit near the front for this one... It is almost 3 hours long, and your head will begin to ache from sitting so close, lol.

This movie was absolutely stunning. I stayed riveted from beginning to end, despite the length. The entire cast did an excellent job and the visuals are absolutely dynamic. The political and social commentary is hard to miss, so if you don't like movies with a "message", then this isn't for you. Much respect to Mr. Cameron for creating this world and taking filmmaking to the next level. I can't wait to see where he takes the story in the sequel. However long it takes to make it, I will be the first in line to buy my ticket for the midnight showing.

This is the best movie I have seen in the last 10 years. It is so unlike anything I have seen before. The graphics are wonderful and the 2 and a half hours will just fly by. You need to see this on the big screen. I watched it on IMAX 3D and I would recommend this.

This movie is a classic example of how technology is evolving and advancing in society. It is unbelievable what the movie industry is capable of and Avatar shows the advancements. If you are ready to see how high the "Bar has been Set", see this movie. I give it a A++ from the technology advancement point of view. The plot is nothing new just re worked alot. I enjoyed it because I didn't have to focus on the plot ,I just marveled at the movie technology.

Although the story of outsiders displacing native "savages" in the pursuit of wealth is certainly not original (Pocahontas comes to mind), the characters and setting of this story - and the way it was created - are nothing less than spectacular.
The visual creations - from beginning to end - were stunning. The realism and lushness of this completely alien world were totally captivating, and the action sequences not overexagerated.
A truly brilliant production and completely worthwhile experience. To get the absolute most out of it, see the IMAX 3-D version.

IMAX 3D is the best experience.
Be aware that the spiritual overtones are from a 'mother earth' perspective.
Visual experience the best I have ever seen!!
Story line keeps you engaged throughout the 2hr 40min (start it with an empty bladder)
Keep in mind that the action is pretty intense for the better part of the movie so I would say 9-10 years of age would be about the lower limit as there is also some strong language used which I could have done without.
I would also think that individuals sensitive to light or flashes of light and loud audio should take note- my 11 year old son walked out with a pretty bad headache.
All in all a very unique and memorable experience...FUNTASTIC!!!!!

I did not expect to be as entertained as I was. The special effects are amazing, as I expected. What I did not expect was that the story line was as engaging as it was. It was a VERY entertaining movie and had the feel of an amusement park ride. A really good ride! Keep the amusement park idea in mind and you will have a wondeful time. If you are looking for a profound story.....look elsewhere.

Went and saw it again for second time. Just as good or better than the first time. Place was sold out still....(after what? 4 or 5 weeks?) so I'm guessing a lotta other people felt the same about it. You can tell when a movie moves the audience as they actually applaud at the end which you don't really hear much anymore. Another tipoff is half the audience stay in there seats to watch the credits, not wanting to leave. lol.
If you haven't seen it, go. If you seen it once, go again. Best movie ever made....but that's just my opinion.

Great graphics, best 3D experience. seen in IMAX. The long movie kept my attention because it was very well made. Story was boring and had a lot of areas that didn't blend well. The plot was stolen from a blend of Pocahontas and Dancing with the Wolves, and didn't come close to being as good as either. The story line seemed as though it was an after thought. Great technology and ideas to bring it to life, but they should have paid a little bit of attention to the story. IMO the storyline is the heart of any movie. The acting at best was mediocre. Why did I give it 4 stars? The movie experience, the 3D, the technology, brought this to such a high level it is definitely a must see. Without the technology, I'd give this movie 1 star

What a shame! Such splendid visuals and so creative visually -- but at heart this is just a rewrapped cowboy-and-Indian shoot-em-up story. Would have been so much more compelling if the story was as creative as the setting. In short: A++ visually; but B- emotionally.

This was one of the most beautiful and amazingly created films that I have seen in a very long time. It did not feel like a three hour movie at all, I felt like I was inside of Pandora, at the end I was about to ask my husband when we could go. It was definitely worth the $15 imax 3D price...Go for it!
