I have been waiting to see this since the script was announced 12 years ago and enjoy "the King of the Worlds" movies despite his magnificent ego.
For me it was a technical marvel, oversold a little on the 3d which was very good but not like it was advertised by Cameron which was stepping it up the level of the Matrix when it was introduced. It definitely was very good though.
The story was pretty solid, as many have said a copy of Last of the Mohicans but I also saw more Thunderheart, the great movie with Val Kilmer, than Mohicans. I have a tendency to really be taken by these types of stories so this worked on an emotional level for me.

Amazing movie. Graphics were even more unbelievable than advertised. TV trailers don't do this movie justice. Best part was, contrary to some reviewers, it had a great story too!

Yes the story line is one we've seen before. You'll hear that from people that don't want to like this movie because of it's anti-establishment themes (despite the fact that there is nothing more American than the will to question authority). Ignore all that. This movie is so well done, so well crafted from both a human and a technological standpoint, that it soars above the standard fare. You will soar with it.

An incredible movie that realistically brings you to an alien world. I went for the special effects, with low expectations for script and story. I was pleasantly surprised. Except for some sub-par acting by Sigourney Weaver (whom I usually love), the movie was a flawless escape into a wonderful fantasy.

The story line was great. But what held my attention throughout this movie was the graphics. Looking at the jungle scenes, the waterfalls and all of the inhabitants in the forest was truly amazing. Rarely do you see a movie with a great plot and great graphics. Even though this movie was 2hours and 40minutes long, it held my attention. I didn't want it to end. Fantastic movie. Definitely a must see. The kids are naturally drawn to this movie, but adults will be surprised at how good it is. I know I was.

The story isn't breaking any new ground and follows a pretty predictable path. What is incredible is the beauty in this film's setting. The movie reportedly cost $300 million to make but none of that money was wasted. James Cameron and crew did an incredible job creating the world of Pandora and making it feel alive.
The IMAX element made the movie even more impressive, colors were very vibrant.
The 3D element also helped this movie shine. In this movie the 3D aspect didn't feel like a cheap gimmick but a tool that draws in the viewer.
The movie ticket was a bit expensive at $15 but I'd gladly pay that again to revisit Pandora.

Avatar IMAX 3D quite simply the most spectacular movie I have ever seen. Even without the IMAX effects it had a great story (there was only one obviously predictable plot line which the writers could have done better). The visuals were amazingly well done and believable. The level of detail is quite insane. Brilliant movie, Kudos to James Cameron and his team.

The movie is a LOT of fun, cool Sci-Fi story line with a heart. Invents a truly amazing new world and makes it real, very hard to do.
The graphic effects are stunning, bringing movies to a whole new level. Seeing it in IMAX 3D made it even better.
Went with several friends and our sons (ages 11 and 15) and all enjoyed it greatly.

Set in 2221 or so, it's is still apparent that Money and Greed are still the motivation that drives humanity to destroy paradise. Movie plot is good, but the WAY the story unfolds is technically stunning. The three D effects are integrated into the movie, not used as the novelty it was in the past.
Settle in for the story, you won't want to get up or step away for the duration.

My wife and I saw this in 3D. I sometimes nap in movies but even after 2.5 hours my eyes were wide open. The video is unbelievable. The story was very believable. We would highly recommend this movie. I don't usually spend the extra money for the 3D but I was happy we did for this one.

I am not a fan of action packed, scifi movies, but my husband is. Avatar surprised me with it's underlying themes of diversity, stewardship towards the planet, and the energy network that connects everything. And it was filled with visual beauty that was delightful to my eyes, especially through the 3D glasses.

WOW. Avatar's visuals are LOTR class. This is the first time I truly felt I got my money's worth from an IMAX film. The story isn't original, we've been there before: White Man is saved from death by Noble Savages, White Man learns the Noble Savages' ways, White Man learns to respect the Noble Savages and love their hot chicks, White Man finds his inner Noble Savage, White Man betrays his civilized society by showing the Noble Savages how to fight the White Man's army like only a White Man can.
But WOW this movie is awesome. A 9.5. Whatever they spent on this film, they didn't waste a penny.

Avatar was one of the best movies i've ever seen. Combined with the IMAX 3D experience, I was fully immersed into the story, the beautiful environment and the characters. This is one of those movies where people in the theater clap at the end then stay around to watch all the credits. I'll do my best to see this movie in the theater again and I'll rave and recommend this movie to anyone I see.

I thought the movie was good. We got there early and had wonderful seats. I thought the special effects were...let's say..."out of this world". I will be watching it again when it comes out on DVD..just to compare the difference with 3D and regular. The story line was great...the performances good.

This movie was pumped as a special effects extravaganza...it did not disappoint. IMAX 3D was quite expensive, but worth it. If it weren't so darned expensive, the kids and I would've stuck around to watch it again. Simply a beautiful movie...lush fantastic environments, interesting creatures, cool mechs, amazing action sequences...all seemlessy integrated. Acting was OK, but I wasn't there for the acting. The kids (15,8,6) which usually have difficulty staying awake or keeping their attention on the screen didn't blink. We loved this movie and highly recommend everyone to see it.
