From an old Thor fan

As an old Thor fan from the Stan Lee days, I was terrified of this film. Done right it could be incredible, but it would be so hard to do right. In the end there were a few small disappointments, but those were crushed by the triumphs. Quibbles:
- Though it comes close, the costume doesn't quite work. Not sure how to fix it.
- In a few scenes the hammer looks a bit plastic. It should always look like metal..._heavy_ metal, and when he throws it, it should go _very_ fast.
- For those that don't know the story, some things were not explained well, like the Odin-sleep.
Things that rocked:
- Anthony Hopkins was superb.
- Hemsworth could have easily come off too corn-ball but didn't. Waves of charisma coming off this guy.
- Loki was perfect. Jane was perfect. Heimdall was better than the comics.
- Just enough humor, timed very well.
- Thor is irrelevant as a character unless his powers are truly god-like. Branaugh appears to understand that.
- There were even some tips of the hat to fans, which is amazing since there aren't many of us, like the scene where the Warriors 3 and Sif have to kneel to Loki - straight from the comics.
This movie gave me some supremely happy moments. To the cast, the director and Marvel - thank you very much.
Now, how can you make such an overwhelming character work in the Avengers? Good luck to Joss Whedon!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Yes the story line is one we've seen before. You'll hear that from people that don't want to like this movie because of it's anti-establishment themes (despite the fact that there is nothing more American than the will to question authority). Ignore all that. This movie is so well done, so well crafted from both a human and a technological standpoint, that it soars above the standard fare. You will soar with it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
