George Lucas should be crying himself to sleep at night wishing he could make a movie with this subtlety of CGI character, depth of emotion and excitement of action sequence... oh... did I mention beauty too? It is bar none the best Sci-Fi movie I have ever seen, and hopefully is the first of at least a trilogy in this series. See it in IMAX 3D if at all possible.

Cameron and his crew have raised the bar. Even though we've all seen this plot before a few times, you must go see it in IMAX 3D - visually stunning doesn't quite describe it. Parts of this film literally made me speechless. My best movie experience. Ever.

if you got an extra 12 dollars see avatar in imax 3d. it was fukking awesome. solid 7 out of 10. 160 mins but worth every second. i highly suggest this film.

Leave it up to the master, J. Cameron to finally create a fully satisfying entertainment experience. You don't just watch, your there! I always resisted watching in 3-D, but this movie isn't about things floating out of the screen, it's camera angles and perspectives that let you be right there walking or flying with the characters. Of course IMAX format in 3-D brings all this to life-like realism. I just wish my dreams can now be 3-D.

This is the most amazing visual experience I've ever had watching a movie. DO NOT MISS the opportunity to see this in IMAX 3D!
I have a mild fear of heights that has never been triggered by a movie before. In some scenes of this movie I felt the same fear in the pit of my stomach that I get from being on a ledge or cliff edge.
I've seen just about everything Sigourny Weaver has been in, and it was absolutely uncanny how her face was represented on the face of her avatar. There was no need to suspend disbelief; it was clear that I was seeing her face on her avatar.
I will try to continue my review in a follow-up post...

Went to see Avatar last night in Imax 3D. Visual effects were great (again tho, IMAX 3D...doubt as good without), story line was fair. They could have cut 30-40 minutes out of it and you would have not known it. VERY long movie!!! 3 stars out of 5.

'Avatar' does something I haven't seen since 1977 (Star Wars). It takes you away to a place not seen or even comprehended before. The film jumps to life and I could hear people mutter almost simultaneously "how cool is that." It reminds me of 'Dances With Wolves' meets 'Aliens' but multiply the spectacle to a scale even beyond 'Lord of the Rings.' The CGI is so real, you DO forget it's not real. 'Avatar' is too intense for children younger than 8. It does weave a love story amongst teeth-rattling action scenes and an epic end-of-movie battle scene that probably has George Lucas and Peter Jackson blushing. 'Avatar' is Oscar-worthy and worth your hard-earned cash. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

This is one of those movies that you may have a hard time trying to explain to others who have not seen it because the things on screen have never been presented in such a way. This was the shortest 2hr40min movie I've ever seen in the way it kept the pace. I would very easily go see this movie again, and maybe even again.

This movie was a great movie in 3D and even greater om IMAX. The effects were amazing and made you feel like you were right in the movie. Story plot was very good, kept you intrested through whole movie. Only thing I saw negative was not sure if movie would be as great if not in 3D.

Very well done, even my wife that does not care for sci-fi movies liked this one. The running time is not noticable and seems to pass quickly. I saw this in IMAX 3D which was stunning.
Definitely reccomend..... Let's go see this several times and hope for a sequal.

The glasses were kind of uncomfortable....I was under the impression this would be the "surround"type IMAX.
There were some slow moments in the movie.
The sound was good.
Before the movie there were way too many "Info Commericals.I know these are paid for but there seemed to be too many in my own opinion.

i don't care if the story is cliche - there are strong characters, amazing visuals, and powerful action sequences (that have emotion to them as well). that's more than what i ask for in a summer blockbuster. if you're going to see it, try to do it in imax 3d. it takes something great and makes it that much more immersive.

I have experienced 3D before with Beowolf, but this one was incredible. The effects were awesome, action was incredible, story line believable! I am going to see this again and buy it when it comes out!!! You feel like you are included in the movie, as the brush comes towards your face... can't say enough about it!

For a few hours after watching this movie in IMAX 3D, I wondered if there was a way...any way I could become a Na'vi. For the entire duration of the movie I felt like I was there. It was that amazing.

If you're looking for a movie with special effects that you'll talk about for days, this is your movie. It's amazing what vision and technology can accomplish. The colors were vivid and the world of Pandora was breathtaking. However, the plot was nothing special. Basically man vs nature and/or other man, greed, self interest, etc. These themes have been played to death. That said, I'm not sure anyone will really care if the story is strong. They will be blinded by the spectacle.

This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long, long time. The story is great, the characters are flush and full, the love story is wonderful and touching, plus the special effects are phenomonal. Nothing like I have ever seen. You just get sucked into the event from the very first frame. It's wonderful. I can't recommend this movie enough. I saw it on IMAX 3D, what a visual trip. I will be seeing this again. There is so much to absorb.
