Film is a visual masterpiece, and that alone is absolutely worth the trip to the theater (and by all means to an IMAX one, if there's any around you). It's a little too long (20-30 min. less would make it better). Story itself is pretty weak (packed w/ cliches, as usual, and in several senses a simplified rip off of Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke) but that doesn't really matter. The visuals are absolutely worth it.

Totally blew me away! The closest thing to VR without VR goggles yet!
Saw it at the Tomball, Tx. IMAX.
I must say, however, the theater management sucked. A computer glitch screwed up reserved seat ticketing and there was almost a fight! Movie started about 20 minutes late, too

WOW, I am not sure how to explain the feeling this movie left me with. I want to be part of that world!! This movie really shows the worst and best of human nature. The animation was breath taking and it is hard to believe that it wasn't all real!! I am BLOWN AWAY by the entire thing. I had no idea what I was instore for and I can not wait to go and see it again!! AMAZING, life altering movie...

Throughout this film I felt as if I were part of that world that was created. I could see the soul of the actors through the generated characters, and I developed a sense of attachment that you don't get to establish with the typical animated film. The characters and story lines were extremely well-developed, and they reflected our human history as well as our present. It makes you question what we have done and what we are doing to each other and our planet. Everything and everyone is connected even if it is not as obviously tangible as it is in the moive.

IMAX 3D is the way to go with this one, The Visuals are not stop eye candy, If seriously feels like your their, not the usual 3d gimmick of something popping out at you, but more like a unreal sense of depth perception, Id forget that i was watching a movie because everything felt so real. Id forget those blue people were aliens and sometimes they felt more real than the humans next to them, and their world of Pandora was so beautiful and rendered so real that it felt alive, i began to envy their world and hate my urban jungle. And to top it all off I watched it high. (marijuana + AVATAR= Greatest Time of my life in a theater)

Incredible movie, I was blown away by the special effects and the 3D was awesome! The story was also great with a romantic twist yet intense battle scenes. Definitely this was my favorite movie for the year. By far I can't wait to see more movies like this with the 3D style.

Avatar is a motion picture extravaganza that rates up there with the Ten Commandments.
You could watch it over and over again and never get tired of seeing it. The plot, the acting, to the animation effects keep you riveted to your seat for the entire length of the picture. I did not see anyone get up and leave the theatre not once to take a break and when the movie was over there was silince then applause. This movie is a great example of what pure entertainment is and should be! I would gladly go to watch the movie again!

This is by far one of the best experiences iv'e had watching a movie in Imax and also in 3D. Some movies just slap that 3D to get more money but avatar used the concept by far the best. The Imax made the world of Pandora seem so surreal and the visual of this movie was fantastic! Not to spoil the movie I will just say that it was great! Like watching star wars for the first time!

Pocahontas' story in 3-D set in the year 2154. One of the greatest visual cinematic experiences ever. Cameron does it again. I saw it first on Real3D but went back again for IMAX 3D. Imax is much better. Dont miss it.

What a marvelous world James Cameron created. Such a basic plot with extraordinary visuals that flooded the screen with such magnificence. Yes we have seen the outlined story in countless films, but when we fill in the gaps it becomes an unmatched tale that will leave you wanting to know and see more. GO SEE IT! ITS GREAT!

Was this really almost three hours? Not once did I feel the movie drag. Although sometimes you knew what was coming, it didn't lessen the enjoyment when it got there. All the action you could want, and yet moments that really got to you. I am always skeptical about heavily hyped movies, but this is one of the few that more than lived up to it. WOW!

What an amazing experience seeing Avatar was. Saw it in Imax 3D. The story was simple to folllow but still had depth to it. The acting was good and it was good to see Sigourney Weaver in a sci-fi role again. The visuals were jaw dropping and with seeing in it 3D, was very immersive. Hands down the best experience I have had at the movies in a long time. A must see for any sci-fi fan or non sci-fi fan. You won't be disappointed.

In a word, stunning! Even more so in IMAX 3D. The CGI work blended seamlessly with the live action actors. With the 3D and Cameron's obsession for detail it was like being on the world of Pandora.
Yes, the story wasn't all that original, but visuals more than made the difference.

visually incredible. a couple of times the 3D became the focus (a distraction), but there were many scenes that inspired genuine awe.
the story was formulaic and predictable, felt like i was watching a space-aged version of Dances With Wolves. parallels were obvious: costuming, hairstyles, battling invaders. wanted so badly for this film not to rely on cheesy lines and stereotyped characters.
spectacle of the movie made it very easy to forgive story weaknesses. easy to love and be captivated by what i was seeing. wow Wow WOW
would i see it again? no. should you see it? definitely, once

Saw movie in 3-d, IMAX. ONLY way to see this film. Special effects are mind-blowing and constant! Story is usual boy meets alien, boy looses alien, becomes alien, boy gets alien girl back. Not much in the way of plot and some of the humans overact so badly that they could have been animated and saved the money! The film is a must-see however, A harbinger of films to come.

The best movie I have seen in a long time. Most unusual and dynamic effects.AVATAR. I want one!
Saw Star Wars openiing night in NY in the 70s. At the time that was the most unusual movie and exciting I had ever see. We are now accustomed to high end entertainment, but AVATAR certainly will go dow n as breaking new ground in movie production. A nice sci-fi. Won't replace regular love stories or thrillers, but man....I look forward to AVATAR II.

Though I could easily do without the little Iraq-war references that really don't relate in any accurate way whatsoever, I completely loved this movie. Yes, the plot might have been a bit generic but I enjoyed the characters and sympathized with their situation all the same. All of that pales in comparison to the actual experience, however; ridiculously immersive, especially in 3-D. Completely deserving of the hype and I'll see again in the theater for certain.
