I saw this twice, in 3d and Imax. Do not see regular (not that it is bad but because it is so good you want to make your 1st experience that much better). The animation was so good and imax was a better than 3d in visuals and sound but when i saw it 3d i sat middle of theatre and when i saw in imax my wife sat us in the far back (mistake).
Seeing it in the back of the theatre with such great 3d allowed me to see the edges of the screen alot more and ruined the effect a tad. Not saying to be a front row joe, but try and sit middle to upper middle for this in 3d or Imax for best effect.

Avatar should be seen by everyone based on its merits of technical achievement alone. The script is not groundbreaking, but more than serviceable and the effects and action will change the expectations of future cinema.

The scenery, the graphics, the indigenous people, the wildlife and everything about Pandora was bigger than life. I can only imagine that on the regular screen the movie may not seem as spectacular. I took my 11yr old son and he loved it. He also caught the message about how greed can destroy something more valuable than money...the riches of a civilization. This is one that you should not wait until it comes on video, unless you have a very large screen, BlueRay and a serious sound system.

Wow! Seeing this movie in 3D IMAX gave me a hint of what watching a holographic movie will be like! Visit a new world! The love story is believable! Finding a way for a stone age people to Hold Their Own against a star traveling adversary is believable! There is a touch of "love the Earth, hate technology, corporations, and the military", but it is minimized and doesn't taint the movie.

This is why you go see a movie on the big screen. Even with today's technology in home theater systems it's hard to imagine that you can dupilcate the experiance you get at the theater. This movie was captivating! The 3D experiance was the best ever!

This movie has everything I look for in a movie: action, drama, pathos, plausible science, good characters, credible plot, stunning visuals, a message that means something, little details that thrill and charm, humor. This movie hit the mark on everything (except the humor).
The time flew by. I could readily have turned around and seen it again (and I will do so later this week, with more friends and my husband who saw it with me).
For those who say the greedy company destroying a culture, an ecosystem precious beyond measure, is over the top, I say, look harder at the world around you. It's happened here, over and over. It's happening now. If this was a lesson well learned, we would have stopped by now.

This was the best movie I have seen in a long time. If you can afford it, and you have an IMAX theater close by, do it. Three D was totally awesome. It was action packed and kept going from beginning to end. It portrayed the human race as we normally are, a bunch of greedy, uncaring, selfish people. It was your typical good versus evil and, as always, good wins out.

Obviously, the technology is groundbreaking, but it will have to be up to the individual if that makes up for the shallow, predictable script. I had to roll my eyes several times, especially near the end, at some of the corniest scenes this side of a Disney movie. I would still have to highly recommend the movie, especially in iMax 3D. I'm giving it a reluctant five stars, but if it were a 10-star scale, I might give it a nine.

by far the best movie i have seen an a long long time from the cast, 3d, to the arial acrobatics oh my god my girlfriend was sweating during the whole movie because she is very scared of heights and the 3d imax experience made it seem so real. besides the movie itselfe i have never experience any 3d movie like i saw in avatar i am going to see it over and over again the colors animals and flying creature seem so real to me. i felt like i was in the movie myselfe i recomend this video to anybody does not matter if you are a teenager or a senior citizen this movie will BLOW YOUR MIND

The story wasn't really original in any way, but the telling of it certainly was. There's quite literally something for everyone in the movie. It's 3-D, and immersive, and while I still maintain that you can't have "Tru 3D" until peripheral vision is involved, the effects are the closest thing you can get in a movie theatre to "actually being there". It blends live-action and CGI flawlessly, and the level of detail is phenomenal.

Absolutely spectacular! A game changer of a film, & in IMAX, it was just a wonder to behold. My family left the theater feeling awestruck -- we couldn't stop talking about it! The "performance capture" here (previously known as "mo-cap," but this is way different!) is nearly flawless & allows full suspension of disbelief by the audience -- you completely buy the realism of the CGI Na'vi & get rolled into the movie to the point that you can allow yourself to just take it all in & enjoy experiencing this very visceral world Cameron has devised out of the whole cloth of nothing but pixels. It has a fairly standard action/adventure plot, but it is a good one, & the characterizations bear this out. To bookend this review: Absolutely spectacular!

Script is laughably bad, story eminently predictable. That said, the 3-D Imax experience watching this was truly spectacular. The feeling of being transported into another, fascinating world was glorious and the visual imagination of the director is wonderful. It must be seen in 3-D. Riveting.

This movie is amazing!! Kinda wat color did to black and white movies! I never wanted it to end even thou its 2hr40min long. This was so good, I've already been to see it twice! And, my wife, who never wants to see movie twice, is the one who suggested it. If you can see it in IMAX 3-D, do it!
I was ready to be disappointed by the story after reading early reviews from critics. But after seeing the picture, all I can say is WOW! Great storyline, inventive creatures, wonderful scenery and thrills. The flying sequences are so wonderful.
Don't listen to the critics, this is a masterpiece of film-making.

I've seen Avatar twice so far. The first time was at the IMAX in Hampton, VA but I could tell that the projectionist had screwed up the 3D so I saw it again on the small screen IMAX at Lynnhaven and it was like seeing the movie for the first time. I saw a lot that I had missed the first time.
See it. See it in 3D.
