I saw this movie in IMAX 3-D.... I wouldn't suggest seeing it any other way. This was a great experience and I am going back to see it again with my friends. I love the story, the details, creativity.... just a fantastic movie. Only draw back is, for young kids please be adivsed that there is some moderately bad language. Other than that - it is ideal for the entire family. I am already hoping for part II, III, and more.... I havent seen a movie so creative and well made in years. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up !

This is an incredible masterpiece of fantasy art. It is a total immersion of the senses. Although a bit on the long side, it also makes you not want it to end.
The effects and shear artwork are gorgeous and the acting believable. Although the plot is rather simple the execution is flawless. Rather predictable at times but easily accepted.
For those trying to over politicize this...get a life. Nothing will make you happy. If you do not believe in the premise of the film, I feel sorry for you as you must feel so self righteous to justify that taking resources from innocent peoples and attacking them and justifying it by calling them terrorist and savages is unfortunately a pathetic tribute to the pathological history of man.

Visually, this movie was extremely laid out. The overarching story seemed like a cross between Last of the Mohicans and Dune with elements from Titanic and The Abyss. I very much enjoyed the movie and would definitely go see it again. Having seen it in IMAX 3D, I can say that while the 3D experience was good overall, 3D as a technology still seems gimmicky to me.

My wife and I have seen AVATAR twice at the AMC IMAX. The captivating and immersion-like effects drew us back two days later. The second huge 3D gave us the chance to see many more fascinating details. The negative effect? Readjusting to reality after leaving the theater!

If you have ever enjoyed any Sci-Fi/ Fantasy/ action adventure movie this is a must see. A little busy at times, but this movie made for an incredible afternoon at the theater. At roughly $4.00 an hour, this was without a doubt the best movie going investment I have ever made. The 3D IMAX experience alone was worth the ticket price.

On pure technical merit, the film is worth seeing. Many found the dialog and spiritual message to be lame, but I thought it was profound although very subtle. I'd love to see the success of this film inspire others to make entertainment that doesn't assume the audience has an average IQ below 60; in the end, the directors' expectations seem to become self-fulfilling prophecy.

Words cannot really describe what the viewer will see with this movie. The 3D IMAX was by far the best experience we had ever had. You felt as if you were part of the movie. James Cameron did the right thing in waiting until the technology was just right for such a film.
The movie is not just special effects either. There is a story line that lets you care about the characters and really gets you involved with the plot. You barely notice that you have been sitting there for nearly 3 hours with the previews, there is so much to enjoy.
We understand from others that the 3D IMAX is the only way to see this to get the full experience. Spend the extra money and enjoy the ride. It is a breathtaking one!!

Special effects are out of this world, and Pandora is beautiful beyond words - you need to see it to appreciate it. The night scenes with the lighting is superb. The story line is heavy handed but the central theme of love and service to the planet and all within is something we can certainly do better here on mother Earth.

Not only was it an interesting film, but the best 3-D experience I have ever had. I was c o m p l e t l y taken in! Its such a shame that our local IMAX theaters will change it out for Sherlock on Christmas day. Who wants to see something like that over an action 3d film?

I thought this movie was excellent. I'm glad that James Cameron was able to take a movie with such a large scale to it and make it not only pleasing to the eye, but pleasing to the mind with a solid story. Some of these other blockbuster movie directors can take a note from Cameron. Just because your movie is considered a blockbuster, doesn't mean it has to be corny. Well done, Mr. Cameron.

This movie was by far the best movie I have seen so far this century. The story my be too simple for some, but it works. The movie flows really well for a 3 hour movie.
The visuals were off the charts. You can tell that is was one of the most expensive movies made to date. The visual details are an order of magnitude above and beyond anything I have see to date. If you can see it in 3D please do. The 3D doesn't not use cheap 3D gimmicks. The 3D give the viewer a better depth of field when watching the movie to give you a more total immersion.

My daughter called it "Pocahontas for adults," and I have to agree. The story is predictable and I'm sure many will complain about that. There is ample ammunition in the film for Conservatives to scream about "liberal Hollywood," but the film will stand/fall on its own. I'm not saying this film was meant to send a message -- it is not -- but after the movie, many of the 16-25 year olds I saw in the lobby were talking about it. I think it touched a nerve.
A couple of scenes are meant to evoke emotions from recent events. Cameron and crew capture the look of confusion and despair that are the real human emotions in such a tragedy. That is rare in film.
All in all, I liked the movie. I'm glad I saw it, but I doubt I'd see it again.

I saw this movie in IMAX 3D and recommend it to everyone who has an IMAX available to them. The advances in 3D imagery made the movie feel like it was right in front of me, without being gaudy like 3D movies used to be. The story was captivating and full of heart, and paired with the stunning visuals I felt like I was right there on Pandora. For those people who are on the fence about going because the trailers look "odd," GO. I thought the trailers were weird too and was on the fence about going, but this movie turned out to be probably my favorite of all time!

The most visually incredible film I've ever seen. Historians will place 'Avatar' in the same rank as '2001: A Space Odyssey' and 'Blade Runner''. The storytelling mastery of James Cameron is in full force here with he emotional poignancy of 'Titanic' and the ferocious action of 'Aliens'. The acting is solid and the emotional range of the digital actors is amazing. The movie is totally immersive. I glanced around the theater and found the audience totally rapt--no talking or texting. Most of my popcorn was untouched as I was transported to another world. I've seen the Real3D and IMAX 3D versions and can recommend both although the Real3D is subtly superior in terms of image quality. A must see!

I took my wife, daughter (18) and son (11) with two friends to the IMAX Paramus for a sold out 7PM show.
To a person, we have experienced the future of movie watching. To be in a scene where you want to reach out and touch something on the screen because it appears right in front on you is absolutely incredible.
What an experience!!! Highly recommend.

I can't even really qualify this as a movie. It was one of the most unbelievable viewing experiences I have ever had. This movie MUST be seen in IMAX 3D. The storyline was good, the characters decent, but it really didn't matter since the visuals draw you in so much. There were a few cheesy "movie" moments with over the top lines. etc. They were all in good fun though, and overall this was absolutely amazing. Go see it, immediately.
