This was the best movie ever. Not only was the action and effects amazing but the story was absolutely incredible. I know some people don't like how long the movie is but you don't even notice because the movie is so good. I would highly recommend this movie and plan to see it again before it leaves theaters.

There will be those who trash this movie because it's not their ideal of great art. It is a groundbreaking achievement in 3D, IMAX and computer effects. There has been none like it - Ever!
The story is basic cowboys and Indians only the Indians win. Perfectly PC. How many ways can you tell that story? Doesn't matter. The visuals are enough to leave you spellbound.
This is what movies will be in the future.

Visually amazing film. The Imax 3D was worth it absolutely. The animated expressions of the CG created NaVi are great. The emotions come out clearly - which I credit the actors too.
Rate it 5 stars(means I am buying this movie) Only drawback, story is very predictable and matches other movie storylines. Still, the action and scenery (CG too) is incredible,want to see it again. Great film even at 2hrs, 55mins.

Great movie in terms of technical production, awesome videography, state of the art computer generated animation and coordination, rare custome design and make up. However, as an American I am insulted and offended by the way the story of this movie portrays American military and portrays the white male as a villan. Old story that is not attractive anymore.

The story is apocryphal, so no different than Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, even Titanic. Don't get hung up on the story line or even the over-the-top ecological message. Go for the IMAX 3D. Absolutely stunning and so lifelike, you will think these worlds existed.

One of the best movie experiences that I have ever had. We saw this movie in 3D IMAX, and it did what every great movie should do. It transformed our sense of reality and broadened it into new realms of experiences. The plot is one of conflict, but the characters, and alternative environment seemed as real as any experience in everyday life. The 3D experience was unobtrusive and multiplied the visual enhancement of the movie. With extraordinary depth of field, you can look closely at the main subject or scan off with clarity into the peripheral spaces that increase your sense of space and time. Avatar tops the best movie experience that I have had in many years!

Would I recommend this movie to a friend? The answer is a resounding yes. In fact, I already have. Avatar is a gorgeous production enhanced even more being in 3D. Not only is it a completely beautiful, painstakingly detailed world, but it is all around you. You might find yourself sitting very still so you don't miss anything. The reviews you have read that state that the plot is predictable may be true, but it's what you want to have happen, so you are happy when you guess right. The acting is also quite fantastic, and the filmmaker's use of color (and lack thereof at times) enables you to really feel the movie rather than just watch it.

This movie took us to a place we had never experienced in a movie. The depth of realism coupled with the minute attention to detail immersed us in a realm beyond anything we could have ever conjured. This movie sets a new bar. It will be quite some time before anyone even gets close. Go see this once, then try not to go see it again.

Wow!!! the 3D was superb, not in your face so much as there to pull you into the environment. The special effects were fantastic and the whole planet had breathless scenery as well as some beautiful plants and animals. The story was not great but I thought if you were there to enjoy the movie instead of trying to find fault with it I cannot see how you could not have liked this movie.

I liked the environmental theme, but Tampa is a military city with MacDill Air Force base & U.S. Readiness Command headquarters so when the audience was watching "Marines" getting killed for following orders, it was much quieter than perhaps in some other cities. I wish Cameron had explained more background of Earth-what the "good stuff" they needed was used for or how the commercial enterprises were allowed to use Marines or else if they had just been mercenaries out for money. The effects were wonderful - loved the science end of human brains melded with cloned alien/human bodies. The ecology message depicted in fantastical plants and animals was exciting. Thanks for a great movie.

I understand some of the comments concerning the plot. There are elements that are reminiscent of other movies and the ending is somewhat telegraphed and predictable. But, don't let that discourage you from seeing this film. Cameron did a great job of marrying familiar themes with believable dialogue, good acting, and ground breaking special effects and the result is a movie that is much greater than the sum of its parts. The audience applauded during the closing credits at both screenings that I attended and that doesn't happen all that often.

This was the single most captivating and mesmerizing film I have ever seen! See it @ IMAX in 3-D (+sound) to fully appreciate the intensity & beauty of Avatar. 3-D truly brings the world of Pandora & its lush environment. alive in a stunning and beautiful way .The story is a classic tale of discovering oneself in the most unlikely circumstances, akin to Dances with Wolves or Thunderheart; and yet stands apart and unique in it's on.

Wonderful story, characters and graphics. First time I see a movie in IMAX and I am now a bit worried I won't enjoy "regular" non-IMAX movies. I took my children to watch it (5, 10, 14) and all sat still throuhout the movie with their eyes glued to the screen, unlike even some kid movies fail to do. Well worth the extra few dollars to watch it in IMAX 3D.....
