The plot line of the movie is generic. A copy of Dances with the Wolves, Last Samurai, and The Matrix. The real reason to see this movie is how it looks. The movie is one of the most visually stunning movies I have ever seen. The picture are extremely clear and details are maxxed out to the extreme. I was not really sure if the movie was worth the 3D, I did not see much difference between it and the regular picture. Though if you do see this movie, it is definitely worth your money to go see it in IMAX. If you don't, you will not get the full experience of the film.

My husband and I took our 8 year old daughter to see this and none of us moved a muscle for the whole movie. We were in awe every minute. It was absolutely beautiful to watch. The colors and fx were amazing! We have told all our friends about it and will be going back with them to see it again...It is a MUST SEE! Also, please pay the little extra money to see it on the Imax screen...Trust me, it'll be worth it!

This is an awesome film...truly groundbreaking from Jim Cameron...the story is somewhat predictable and some of the dialog cliched; but the overall arc of the movie is fantastic. The acting ranged from good to outstanding with notable standout performances from Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. Cameron has created a world in which we are the "aliens" and yet it seems so accessible. This is a must-see film this year.

I'll keep this short: Avatar was a very good film, very entertaining and beautiful to look at. The story was nothing grand or new, but was a very well-done traditional epic. The graphics were wonderful and immersive. Worth seeing while it's still in theaters.

Saw Avatar IMAX 3-D. What a treat and what an achievement for the digital team! I'm not usully a Si-Fi fan but this movie was great. It was visually spectacular, touching and a good and complete story. The movie is long but you don't realize it as you are captivated by the images, effects and story. No gore, not overly violent fine to take anyone age 8-80 to go see. The moveie gives some good messages about character and doing what is right that the young may miss but they will still enjoy the movie. Highly recommend.

Seriously, if you can watch this movie on an IMAX screen in 3D, do it. Best movie of the year, bar none. A true trifecta. Great plot, special effects, and pacing.
Most 3 hour movies I've watched recently always feel like they could have been edited to 2 hours and been better. Not this one. Avatar never feels like it drags, and the story never stops progressing.
James Cameron is the man. Period.

At first I didn't want to see this movie, just the name alone turned me off. However after seeing it my optinion has done a complete turn around. I enjoyed the movie A LOT!!!! It was sad, yet funny and the special effects were AMAZING!!!! The use of color and creativity, I'm not sure that words can even explain it. And to top it off I saw it in IMAX 3D, which was well worth the extra money!!!! I strongly suggested that everyone see this movie! IT WAS GREAT!!!!

This is one of those movies that is a must see at the IMAX!! Amazing visuals!! I thought the story line was fantastic. The reason the movie was so long was because the movie explains a lot about the land of Pandora and how each life form exists and what not.
This movie invokes a lot of emotion and leaves you wondering how evil humans are and how we destroy our own land. I thought the acting was good too. Sam Worthington was fantastic playing Jake Sully and so was Zoe Saldona who plays Neytiri. Sigourney Weaver was great too playing the character of Dr. Grace Augustine. Stephen Lang was a great villain as the Colonel. Avatar is a must see and I give it a 10 out of 10!!!!

I've never seen anything so amazing! James Cameron took a classic storyline and made it his own with rich political and philosophical digs. This tapestry of thought is finely woven with relevant issues, colorful characters, and a stunning array of visual effects that will make it a benchmark for decades to come. This must be what the generation before mine felt like when they watched Star Wars on the big screen for the first time. Depth and complexity define every aspect of this film.

I went into this movie expecting a visually stunning experience but a weak story line. What I got was a movie experience that surpasses any movie I have ever seen. I couldn't help but be drawn into this world and this story and feel connected from the very beginning. It made me laugh, cry and cheer!
I have seen it twice now and I want to go again!

AWESOME! First 3D movie I've been to and it was superb. The FX and colors were amazing. The CG looked completely real. A lot of research and imagination went into this movie. Most original I've seen in awhile. It captivated my soul and I fought really hard not to cry. It reminded me of our past and fear for the future. Heartwarming and gut wrenching, this movie touched my heart. Fight scenes were really exciting as well.

While not the most amazing movie ever, Avatar in IMAX 3D was definately worth the time and expense. The special effects are, indeed, as astounding as the hype would lead you to believe; the characters are enjoyable; and the plot, if not terribly clever, is engaging and has a satisfactory ending.
I'd strongly reccomend it, but definately see it in the theater (preferably IMAX 3D, its worth the extra $); it won't be the same experience on DVD.

The first 3D or CGI movie that is without flaw. Believable, stunning and capturing. After seeing the movie, it is indescribable and I ran out of accolades. Sam Worthington was made for this part. The cast was first rate and on the same team. Unlike anything you will ever see.

Avatar is a ground breaking film visually. You really feel immersed in the world that James Cameron has created. The attention to detail is amazingly precise. I enjoyed the story and the acting was first rate. My only problem with the viewing experience is that the 3-D glasses could have been cleaner. I understand the theater's dilemma in trying to clean hundreds of glasses between each showing but given that one is paying several dollars extra for the experience you should feel that you're getting the value that you paid for.

I really was not prepared to see what I saw. This is one of the greatest visual shows of all time. I watched it last night, and today I am still trying to get rid of those mesmerizing images. They have stayed with me, and I can't stop thinking and rewinding them in my head.

This is my new all time favorite movie. It is truly mesmerizing! Don't listen to the critics about recycled plot, etc. I like many others watch movies as entertainment or to escape from daily life. You will feel like you are on Pandora when you watch this movie. This will raise the bar on future movie production. A trilogy is likely. A must see in IMAX 3d!

As seems to be the consensus, the film features much eye candy and some dazzling action sequences. However, dramatically the film is very lacking. There is hardly any suspense, since you pretty much know where the story is headed from the get-go. Some parts are borderline boring, even when they seem to have been created with the purpose of thrilling the audience. The IMAX 3D format makes for the best possible viewing experience of Avatar because of these flaws. If you're going to see the movie, you might as well see it in a way that really makes the visuals pop.

Absolutely the best movie since original Star Wars. 3D effect was done really well. Larger original Imax screen would have been better rather than cinema type one.
Sound quality excellent.
Storyline drives home how man can be so stupid in ruining his own planet and desecration of indigenous peoples homelands.

Make sure you see Avatar in 3D at an IMAX theater. You will be glad you did. Avatar takes you on a fantastic journey from beginning to end. The colors and special effects are amazing. If you do not see any other movie this holiday season make sure you do see Avatar. It is the perfect escape.

Wall to wall fun and excitement. Visually awsome. Tender. Touching. Thrilling and more! Do NOT miss seeing it on the big screen, even better in 3-D IMAX. It recaptures the thrill I felt the first time I saw Star Wars in the 70s.

After watching many Avatar trailers, checking out movie websites, and reading interviews with James Cameron and the cast I knew I was going to enjoy this movie. I knew Avatar would be good. I was not expecting it to be so amazing. Visually, this movie is unlike anything I have ever seen before. What you are looking at on the screen looks and feels real. I think a great movie causes you to get lost in it and forget your world for awhile. Watching Avatar I felt like I was on Pandora, and I didn't want to leave. Watching Avatar IMAX 3D was the best movie going experience of my 28 year-old life. I can't stop thinking about it, and I can't wait to go again, which I will at least one more time.

Whatever you do, you MUST see it in IMAX 3D -- however, DON"T do it in a sold out presentation... we ended up sitting in the first row, and looking up from the base of an over 50-foot tall screen for almost 3 hours is deadly... worse yet is that the 3D effects are a bit "off" from that angle.
I won't bother waxing poetic on the story or quality of the CGI, I'm sure there are now 1000s of reviews before mine that have done so... I'll just say that the technology has finally matured to the point where, in this film, the line between fantasy and reality was brought SO much closer to completely disappearing.
Pricey, but a MUST see.
