I was impressed that this movie managed to combine stunning special effects and visuals (Including realistic animals, geography, machines, as well as most importantly emotions on the aliens) with a legitimate thoughtful plot. The movie shows serious action and exploration, along with well thought out underlying politics and interpersonal relationships.

Or at least that's what I kept expecting Ney'tiri to start singing at some point while taking in John Smith...err... Jake Sully. I mean, I don't know who used this variation on the Legend of Pochantas first considering Cameron wrote the outline for this in 1994 and Disney released their version is 1995. However, either way it's great story telling done right with timely ideas for this era. Recommend seeing this one in 3D IMAX if possible.

A planet needs a gunslinger to protect it from the bad guys and HOORAH Jake the new guy in town steps up to the plate. Visually this was an astounding film. Not sure if it really needed the 3D. It probably would have been just as good without the 3D. I was not blown away, perhaps because of all the hype surrounding the film. Easy to see where all the money went in the making though.

OMG! You guys MUST see this movie, but make sure it is 3-D in an IMAX theater. I can not say enough about it. It is not the best movie I have ever seen, but the "experience" was FANTASTIC!

This movie was so great, I saw it in all three variations -- the regular 3D, the normal movie, and finally IMAX 3D. It's definitely worth it to see the IMAX version.

Ever see the "Matrix"? This movie has been shown a hundreds times just the names and location have been changed to make a buck off a new generation of movie goers who have not seen this tired story before. If you look beyond the special effects and beauty of the setting it is just another rehash of a macho, shallow hero who rides into town to save the locals from an evil money hungry capitalist and gets the girl. This movie will be great for those 12 and younger who don't know any better. The rest of us will see right through this Hollywood retread fresh out of a can of wont miss hit remasked for a new audience.

Forget the pundits who say this is a political statement; forget anyone who tries to say Avatar has some anti-anything message! This is as classic a good guys versus bad guys plot as there ever was; westerns of yesteryear had big cattlemen trying to drive out small family ranchers and take over their land. The differences here are the magnificence of the production, and the sci-fi aspect.
This movie ROCKS! Don't attend looking for some stupid political message, go to be entertained! You will NOT be disappointed!

I've seen this movie twice, once in standard format and again (because it was so good!) in IMAX 3D. I was initially worried about gimmicky 3D interfering with simply watching the film but was very pleasantly surprised by how well it worked.
The difference was very positive and well worth the slight extra cost for IMAX 3D. The extra effects and quality really draw you in and immerse you in the film. Amazing!!

Although the plot is clunky and predictable, the bad guys are caricatures, and the natives of Pandora seem like large, blue Native Americans, the world that Cameron creates and shares with the viewer through 3D is truly astonishing. I spent a large part of the movie grinning, just enjoying looking at Pandora. The characters are pretty well developed and the love story is given time to grow so it feels like something organic. I found that I didn't really care that much about the movie's weak points; It was a privilege to experience Pandora and I look forward to doing it again very soon!

Even if you are not a sci-fi fan, this film is magnificent and worth watching. The moment to moment experience is unlike anything I have ever seen before. I would like this type of 3-D presentation to become the norm. Avavtar has at least a little something for everyone. I took my six year old daughter to see it and, despite some intense action sequences, she came away absolutely ecstatic. Having formerly worked in the film industry, I tend to be extremely critical of Hollywood and most of what it produces. That being said this was quite possible one of the best motion pictures I have ever seen. I would rank it in my top twenty favorite films of all time.

Great story line and a Scifi movie that anyone could enjoy. The theater ran out of glasses for the show and we had to go back for the next performance but it was worth the trouble. One of the few recent movies where the patrons applauded after the show. Definitely worth the extra tariff for the 3D IMAX version.

This has to be one of the most amazing movie ever made, the 3D was great even though the theater we were at had some technical difficulties. This movie really made you "feel" what's going on and pretty much depicts how humans behave when we know nothing about something. You really need to go see this movie in 3D to really experience this movie fully. Don't download the movie illegally and watch it at home, it's NOT the same experience! Go and support the movie and the efforts of the producers! I give this more than two thumbs up! The visuals was insanely breathtaking.

My wife and I watched this movie and we both liked it very much. So much that we watched it twice. It has a nice story line and graphically it’s truly amazing. It HAS TO BE seen in IMAX 3D to get the full experience, but it seems different movie theaters have either different quality IMAX cameras or just do not show it in true IMAX even though they say they do. It is hard to explain this, but those familiar with IMAX movies will understand when they see it - there has to be this feeling like you are actually 'inside' the movie when it's IMAX. If you’ve been to the Grand Canyon IMAX movie, you'll understand. We realized that only when we saw it the second time in a different movie theater. In any case, I recommend this movie to anyone!

After about 30 minutes, I was beginning to wonder what all the hype was about. Despite the early introduction of the forest and scenery, it wasn't until the the scenes involving flight did one really get amazed. The last 20 minutes of the movie, in particular, are incredible, and make one forget any lagging at the beginning. Despite some almost identical characters from other Cameron movies, one major scene at the end avoids the usual stereotype, and therefore was a bit surprising. If you plan to spend the $, you must see it in IMAX if you can, along with the 3D, it's worth the extra $. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5 if I could, but the computer won't let me.

I really enjoyed this movie - the story, the graphics, the characters. In Imax 3D it was truly fun to watch, I would highly recommend watching it this way to get the full effects. James Cameron is a genious and this movie is proof!

By far the most visually stunning experience you will ever have in my opinion. It is by no means a tacky 3D experience with stuff jumping at you for cheap thrills. It is brilliantly made and literally transports you into the world of Pandora. The story progresses seamlessly drawing you in with every passing minute. Beyond my rather insipid attempt at this review, you must experience the movie to understand the scope of it. See it in IMAX 3D as it is worth every cent I promise! This guy Cameron is a genius movie maker. If he had to wait 12 yrs for the technology to meet his vision, it was well worth the wait! It is CGI meet realism times a million! Go see it people - it is perhaps the greatest movie experience you will ever have!

I would recommend this move to anyone who asks. From the colors, to the story, to the action scenes, this movie had it all. The 3-D experiance is a must though. This movies takes you in and keeps you there. It was a long movie but time flew by so fast that you didnt even have time to think about it.
