Have an 11 year-old son so we have seen it twice opening week. First saw it at a traditional theater. Thought it was great. Heard there was a 3D IMAX experience option so headed to that theater a few days later. Bought the tickets that cost twice as much as the traditional. Still liked the movie but none of us thought the claim of being an IMAX experience was worth it. Clearly the folks who called it IMAX have not been to a real IMAX. Not sure how they are even getting away with advertising it as such. Although a bit larger than a traditional screen the size of the screen is not anything like an IMAX. And they don't project onto all they do have. See the movie but the IMAX offer is a waste.

Absolutely blown away by this movie! The effects and 3D were astounding, the plot and storyline were great. Overall, a very well made and well put together film. I will see this again and again. Great Job!

Its the Movie of this Decade! You must see it In 3D I MAX PLEASE DO NOT CHEAT YOURSELF SEEING IT ANY OTHER WAY!
When It comes out on DVD I'll buy it and watch it over and over again. They Should have made this a 6 hour movie. I just loved it so, so, much and yes I cried because It made me feel ALIVE!!!!!

Ok, every movie cliche of the American movie typology gets repeated here. Wounded guy seeking to start over, being used by the military industrial complex to strip mine "unobtanium" HOW STUPID must it be? Well, it's good. See the IMAX 3D version, go to a matinee if you want the price to be reasonable. Take your kids if you want, it's ok. Just don't expect a new story, but expect to be BLOWN AWAY. It is impressive. Worth the money, worth the headache from the 3D glasses. Trust me, I never go to the theater anymore because there is SO MUCH garbage out there. This is a gem in the rough.

Outstanding special effects, beautiful scenes and characters, amazing colors... That's not all that describes "Avatar", of course. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. Nothing like this has been ever made before and that was a truly unique and amazing experience. Although the plot of the movie is really simple, the special effects make it outstanding.

I was skeptical, but this movie was amazing. I saw it in IMAX 3D at an AMC. I believe they used dual 4K Sony digital projectors. Bar none this was the best image quality i have ever seen. I looked FAR better than HD. It was presented in what looked to be 16:9, and the 3D was mind blowing. It was layered perfectly, and the depth was very realistic. On the creative side, the world was very well done. It was so vibrant that real life seems dull afterward. The sound field was accurate, and powerful. The story line was believable and heartwarming. Not much for plot twists but overall kept my attention throughout. Bottom line: See this in IMAX 3D, and you WILL enjoy it, it's mind candy.

Others have praised the special effects. Rightfully so. But I also think the film raised interesting questions about the nature of culture and the place of love in society. Finally a movie in which the indigenous people are not exterminated but instead survive and flourish because of their values and customs. A real beauty!

Wonderful visuals. Story, predictable and heavy handed but not too bad. The lead character, Jake Scully, aggresively stupid. In every situation he got into I thought what is the stupidest thing he could do, and that is what he did. The message I took away from this movie is that being a low grade moron is a virtue. Once I got over the spectacular visuals I was unable to enjoy the movie because I did not identify or like Jake Scully because he was such an idiot. If you think professional wrestling is real you will love this movie. As far as the spiritual message of this movie, I already knew that slaughtering innocent people and despoiling nature in the name of greed was bad.

The 3D experience completely pulls you into the movie. The 3D effect made the movie extremely believable and less cartoonish. There were times when I was swatting fireflies away from my face or moving my head to get a 3D effect out of my face. The story is quick to set things in motion, no slow build up. You understand the characters and their motivation in each of the first scenes in which they are presented. It has many great messages pertaining to our world today and should be fun for the whole family. There are a few scenes which are pretty intense but not horrific by any means. So go! Have fun and enjoy!

The experience of watching this movie was just out of this world... this movie will be a trend setter like all previous James Cameron movies... storyline was nothing special... but don't think people would miss that part... as the experience over compensates for that part...

The IMAX experience for a movie with this type of sound, color, and action is phenomenal. The middle of the movie was little slow, but near the end it was great, and full of excitement. With the IMAX experience my brain probably couldn't take all the continuous action and excitment that occurred during the end throughout the entire movie. It would ave been too much mental stimulation. Overall it was a really good movie.

Very entertaining. Visual affects are great. You have to watch this in 3D. It's the only way to really get the full affects. Best movie I had ever seen was Aliens. Before that was Alien. After those I really enjoyed the Matrix. But, now I have a new number one. I will be seeing this one again for sure.
Print your tickets at home. NO LINES-JUST WALK IN.

I love this movie. In my opinion the best movie of 2009 and by far the best 3d experience ever. I like it so much I have seen it twice in 3 days both times with my family. Which brings me to the problem I have with AMC. I paid 7.50 per ticket when I saw the movie in what they call REAL 3D yet at the same theater I went to see the IMAX experience which was 11.50. And there was ABSOLUTELY know difference. I felt like I got ripped off. And most people dont go back to see it again so I can see how AMC is getting away with this. Once again AWESOME MOVIE...But Shame on AMC for taking advantage of its customers!!!!!!!

The story is very formulaic, but it is still fun to watch. The 3D IMAX opens a whole new world of cinematic experiences. The technology is getting better and it feels more real then any 3D I have experienced before. Zoe Saldana turns in an amazing performance that pulls at the heart. One of the most memorable movie-going experiences I have ever had and will never forget.

Great visuals, not recommended for younger kids, due to violence and adult subjets. Recommend you see it in 3D for adults and older kids. Cameron went into great details in creating the world and its creatures.

Just watched the movie last night in Imax 3D with my whole family. The special effects are the best I've ever seen. The story of the movie was kinda boring at times and found myself looking at my watch just waiting for the 2 hr 40 min movie to end. The middle section of the movie was very boring and drug on. My family agrees that the movie special effect were out of this world but besides that nothing to brag about. If you like special effects and dont mind sitting for 3 hrs go see it in the theather otherwise just wait for DVD.
